  1. Good news Nick, Enjoy the movies, glad we could help!
  2. And here I thought this was put to bed, but noooo! Up pops our own Wolfeymole to add clarity to the thread. What truly hurts is that i went to the trouble of adding that ridiculous extra u in humor. I have forgotten that in the land of Benny Hill subtlety is a lost art. Sorry to lump you in with that Polo but you must disavaow Mr Lobo as your nation's defender. (All in good fun folks )
  3. It never even occured to me that my post would be taken seriously. I guess I better look carefully at my sense of humour.:)
  4. Sometimes these threads take on a life of their own. Lets please try to stay on topic. Happily Gracey's issues have all been resolved without need for further discussion This thread is solved and closed.
  5. You should not do that to an old man Raj. Shame on you!!
  6. Hi Smokey 3 Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, We hope you enjoy being part of our community. Warmest regards to Smokeys 1 & 2 :)
  7. Good News Judie, Nice to see another problem solved and closed.
  8. Great Stuff, interesting and informative.:) However if you really want to perform a service to the Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Community you may want to advise the members where one can get those printed ebooks you mentioned. I there any special software that is required to use one of these devices. May one use these non ebooks if mobile phone text is the only written language that can be understood. Is there an age requirement to use one or are they restricted to under a particular age. Thank you in advance for any additional information you may supply.
  9. Administrators and Moderators do not approve or disapprove of solutions suggested by other members ( as long as the solutions are legal and not known to be malicious) but may comment from time to time. The Revo software suggested seems to have received some favourable reviews but I have no special insight and probably know less about the subject than many members. Sangfroid's advice to "use wisely" is always the best advice. If you have questions about any solution ask.
  10. Hi Nick, IF you are using a digital still camera that has a video option in it almost certainly is recording in quicktime format. Window Media Player will only support much older versions of quicktime Information about the Multimedia file types that Windows Media Player supports If that is the kind of camera you are using, the videos will not play in Windows Media Player without them being converted using some third party software. Can you please advise what type of camera you are using and what the file extensions are on your movie files? Have you ever had to "do anything" to the videos before to make them play?
  11. Hi Motnosam and welcome back to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help! Have you resolved your update problem, are we dealing with a fully updated OS?
  12. Gracie, ATF Cleaner will work with Vista. Please just follow the guide above it has proven itself over time if you follow all the steps and not substitute.
  13. Hi Gracey, Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help.:) The precise answer to your question is that as of this morning no one has found anything on the "files" that you named. That does not mean that no one will. This is a pretty diverse forum. Regardless there are a few things you can do that may solve the problem for you. First, if you have not already tried, do a System Restore to a date prior to when the problem first appeared. What is System Restore? - Windows Vista Help Don't be concerned if the restore seems to take a while and lag a bit. It does that. Even if System Restore seems to work, and certainly if it does not, You should follow the steps below. It seems likely that this is a result of malware that has infected your system. Once you have finished please come back and let us know how you made out. Malware is software designed to infiltrate or damage a computer system without the owner's informed consent. It is a combination of the words malicious and software. The expression is a general term used by computer professionals to mean a variety of forms of hostile, intrusive, or annoying software or program code. Required Cleanup Steps Disable the Spybot Search & Destroy TEA TIMER if you use it and if it is enabled Run a Temporary file and cache cleaner (ATF) Run 2 Anti-Malware scanners (Listed Below) Run an Online Anti-Virus / Anti-Malware Scanner (Listed Below) Clear out old System Restore points If continued Malware type activity is present you may be asked to post a TrendMicroâ„¢ HijackThisâ„¢ Log file, do not do so unless requested. The reason to run multiple scanners is to ensure that no single scanner is missing something. The time it takes will vary depending on your system and your internet connection speed. Typically the SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes scanners will take between 10 to 90 minutes. The ESET online scan should take between 1 to 3 hours. In most cases, these scans will suffice to clean and disinfect your computer. Heavily infected systems or slower PCs can take much longer to scan and clean. For best results print the following instructions and bookmark this Web page To keep this guide printer-friendly, use your cursor to highlight the contents below. From your browser select File - Print and in the printer dialog box under "Print range" click the Selection choice to print out these instructions for removal of malware. http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/printer-selection.gif ____________________________________________ STEP 1 Disable Spybot Search & Destroys' TEA TIMER: (if installed, if not go to Step 2) Run Spybot-S&D in Advanced Mode. If it is not already set to do this Go to the Mode menu select "Advanced Mode" On the left hand side, Click on Tools Then click on the Resident Icon in the List Uncheck "Resident TeaTimer" and OK any prompts. Restart your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 2 Follow these instructions carefully. Download ATF-Cleaner from Snapfiles.com to remove un-needed temporary files from your computer that may contain malware. You can also download it from Majorgeeks.com When you run ATF-Cleaner, check the items as shown below for Main. For FireFox, be sure to click on the FireFox tab on top and check the items as shown below for FireFox NOTE: If you don't have FireFox or Opera installed then they will be grayed out and can be ignored Then click on "Empty Selected". http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner01.gif . http://i306.photobucket.com/albums/nn266/FPCH/Malware%20Guide/atf-cleaner02.gif __________________________________________________ STEP 3 Install and run the free version (not the Professional version) of SUPERAntiSpyware from SUPERAntiSpyware.com Accept any prompts to allow SUPERAntiSpyware to install the latest rules and infection definition files. You do not have to send them your e-mail address, just click next. You can leave the automated check for updates on. You can uncheck "Send a diagnostic report to research center" if you don't want to send the information. DO NOT allow SUPERAntiSpyware to protect your Home Page settings. On the Top Left select the Scan your computer button. Make sure there is a CHECK MARK on all Fixed Drives. Click "Perform a Complete Scan". Click "Next" to Repair issues found and reboot the computer when prompted to do so. __________________________________________________ STEP 4 Install and run Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware from Malwarebytes - (direct download) Accept all defaults for the installer Allow the program to update the definitions Click on the Quick Scan and click Next. If any items are found allow it to clean them and then Reboot your computer. __________________________________________________ STEP 5 Run an online scan with ESET from Free Virus Scan: Use ESET's Online Antivirus Scanner You must use Internet Explorer for this online scan. FireFox, Opera, etc will not work for this scan. If your computer is running Window's Vista, then you must first start Internet Explorer as an Administrator. To do so, right-click on the Internet Explorer icon in the Start Menu and select "Run as administrator" from the popup context menu. Accept the terms and click "Start". Once the scanner is ready, check "Remove found threats" AND "Scan unwanted applications". Click "Start" to begin the scan. When completed restart your computer __________________________________________________ Make sure your internet firewall security is enabled, and then please return to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help and tell us how the computer seems to be operating. At that time, you will receive instructions to assist you in removing malicious programs from your Add/Remove program list if warranted. If required this is the download link for TrendMicroâ„¢ HijackThisâ„¢ Unless instructed to by the Technician helping you then do not download this tool. Once you and the Technician agree that your system appears to be clean then you should delete all your System Restore points and recreate a new one. Please follow the instructions here How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows XP How to turn off and turn on System Restore in Windows Vista
  14. Hi Crossjay and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. I notice that you refer to yourself as PC Illiterate. Maybe that's true but since you have found your way here I would have to say you are pretty PC Smart :). So again, welcome Look around, post your concerns when you have them and just enjoy being part of our community.
  15. :) Sort of neutral Judi just information.
  16. Unless I am mistaken this indicates that you are connected to your router which raises a real probability that it is a configuration problem.
  17. :) Yes it is. just type ipconfig /all and copy (or if you must jot down) all the connection information. Basicaly all the numbers that you see as addresses and their designations (ip, gateways, masks etc.) I am told that the BT software is problematic and may have to be worked around and this will help those (far more knowledgeable then me ) to get to the bottom of your problem.
  18. We are going to need some information from your ipconfig. If you know how to do that we will need the information regarding your connections. Normally I would ask for a screenshot but considering the nature of your problem that may not be possible. If you do not know, I can supply the instructions.
  19. Hi again, There is some information that will be helpful to get from you that will help to resolve your problems but there is one other basic that comes to mind. Are you certain that the LAN is enabled in your network connections. From what you have already said you can do it probably is but please make certain.
  20. Hi judierudie and welcome back to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. I am not the one to supply answers for your problem but perhaps a few basic questions will streamline the process. Is it the router that you cannot connect to or your network? When you say it runs its test does that mean that you can see test results on your pc? Have you checked any firewall that you may be running to make certain that it is not being blocked there? Are you able to get into the router at all, to check its internal firewall settings?
  21. Just what we love to hear, Dave. Problem Solved. :) Come back soon and please tell your friends about Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help!!
  22. Hi Nelly Please do not go out and buy a new laptop simply based on what you read here. If that is your choice then fine but you may want someone to actually look at it and make sure that it is not something simple. Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help is in no postion to make that sort of evaluation. Certainly you can keep your hard drive and others will give you the best suggestions on how to make use of it.
  23. Sorry Bob, I should have saved you the trouble of trying. Members cannot move posts but it has been moved now.
  24. Hi Bob and Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. A good post. I am sure other members, like yourself, would like to see some reviews of Chrome as well as other browsers. I think you may get a bigger response if this thread were moved to "browsers." Again, a warm welcome.!!:)
  25. Will do Mikey. A simple but effective solution.
