  1. Hi Dreadprinz, Thanks for letting us know, and also for giving the link to the manual, someone else with the same model may find that helpful. Nev.
  2. OK Whiterose, while we are waiting for chaz, just try this, after doing the copy, click start, then run, and type in the box - clipbrd then hit enter or click OK. that should open the clipboard viewer, see if your copy is there. If so then you may be doing something wrong in paste, if not then something is wrong in copy. This may be down to the infection though, so for now attach the log as you did last time. Nev.
  3. I have been asked this a few times, "How do you do a copy and paste?" I will try to make this simple to understand. There are two basic methods of creating the copy in the first place, the first applies if you want to copy all of a document, or page, whether it is a word document, a word pad document, or even a notepad document or a full web page. Click on "edit" then "select all" you will see everything will then be highlighted, go back to "Edit" and click "Copy" everything on that page will now be stored in the clipboard, this is normally hidden, so don't worry about where the clipboard is, next go to the page you wish to paste everything you have copied. If on this forum, a "Post Reply" box. Again click "Edit" then "Paste" all you have copied will be magically transferred to the page. There is a quicker way to copy and paste if only a small portion of the original is needed to be transferred, this is done by manually highlighting a section. To do this, go to the end of the bit you want to copy with your mouse pointer or cursor and hold down the left click button, then move the mouse over to the left and up the page, you will see the highlighting happen as you go. Just stop when you get to where you want the start of the portion to be. Conversely you can also copy in the reverse of that by starting at the beginning and moving right and down the page. Release the left click button and all you have highlighted will stay that way. Next, with the mouse pointer over the bit you have highlighted or at least near to it, right click, a menu will appear, click "Copy", again this is then sent to the clipboard. Open a reply box, or other place you wish the copy to go to, left click it if no cursor is blinking at you, when the cursor appears and blinks, then right click, this time select "Paste" and the copy will appear. I hope this is of great help to our new and as yet unfamiliar to computer members. I tend to use this second method, even for large amounts as you can be more selective of what you wish to copy, ready for pasting elsewhere. it is also useful when you need to copy and post a website address. Nev.
  4. Hi Whiterose, Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. It would be better if you could copy and paste that log into your next reply rather than as an attachment please. Nev.
  5. Hi Stephen, this could be any one thing from a large number of things. However we will start with RAM memory, do you know how much RAM there is and if there is more than one memory stick? Turn off the power but leave the plug connected to maintain an earth connection, remove the cover and look inside while touching the case with one hand to remove the chance of static damage, and if there is more than one stick of memory, remove one, then try it again. If no change replace the first and remove the second and try again. Let us know if this helped or altered anything. Others may also have other ideas to try. Nev.
  6. Have you tried changing the name of the file? Wherever the file is, click on the name, wait a second, then click again (don't double click it, that will just open the file) You should then get the name edit box, click the backspace key then enter any short one word name, click away from the new name, somewhere else on screen. Can you delete it then? Nev.
  7. There you go, I must learn a bit more about graphics, ignore my previous post, Maynard is correct. Nev.
  8. Hi Burnzy, from what little I know, I think what you have there should run that game as sweet as a nut. The only explanation I have, is there some process running in the background that is hogging processor time? Have a look in task manager and see what shows up as heavy CPU use, and also if something shows high figures for memory use as well. If there is, let us know what you find. Nev.
  9. If you click the help button at the top, then contents, you will get a quite comprehensive set of instructions. Re your need to add track after track, as far as I can see there is no limit. However as I only use it for one project at a time, and not that often, I could be wrong. all I can say is try it. If it is a case of having to play each track one at a time, you should be able to stop Audacity recording at the end of the first, then restart recording once the next track starts. You can edit out the gaps afterwards. Nev.
  10. Thats a good one JB, all she needs now is the leather flying helmet, and she could be that well known female flyer of the 1920's or 1930's Amy Johnson I think she was called.
  11. As promised, I am pleased to tell you all that Darwen Brass did exceptionally well, our youngest player got a prize all of her own bless her, little Milly is only 10 or maybe 11 now. Dave, our euphonium player, took the prize for the best euphonium in the fourth section, our conductor took a prize for the best conductor of our section, and we got first prize too. The band is in high spirits and a party is planned for tomorrow night. Now then the music we played is a piece called Music for a Festival, and was written by Philip Spark. Here is a link to the Oldham Youth band and Fodens Band, (not us) playing that piece. Unfortunately not a very good recording of it, but it will give you an idea of how the music sounds. It is in two parts, so look for part 2.
  12. Hi James, you could connect the two together in a network and copy files over that way, or there are a few bits of hardware around known as file transfer cables, and have a box in the middle but connect both computers via USB. Have a look here for a cable- 2 metre USB Data/File Transfer Cable: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo And that is only one outlet, there are many and you may even pick one up locally in a nearby computer retailer. Nev. PS, I use one and they are good. Also look around for this Belkin one Belkin : USB 2.0 File Transfer Cable Nev.
  13. Yet again the brass band I am a member of, Darwen Brass, is entering the Fleetwood Brass Band contest tomorrow Sunday 4th October. We have been doing some very heavy rehearsals recently hence my not being here as often as I would normally. But hopefully we will get a good result and I will let every one know how we got on and hopefully either a link or other means to let you listen to the piece we play. Until the contest, the piece of music has to remain unknown to the rest of the world so as to rule out cheating or favouritism. Once over and done with, I hope you will enjoy it as much as we do in playing it. Nev.
  14. Looking at the motherboard in its unpopulated state, I think maybe you could be right about the GFX cards, but a photo of the motherboard as it now is would be a big help. So if it's possible could you post us a picture of your motherboard, complete with all existing cards still fitted, so we can see what may be in the way. Nev.
  15. Hi, do you know if you are on a broadband connection? Do you know what speed you are getting in KB/sec or GB/sec? Nev.
  16. Hi Jessica, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, and on behalf of FPCH thanks for that information. Sorry but I have been busy and only just now seen this. Thanks once again, Nev.
  17. Hi Rob, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. You can buy individual 13 amp plugs to fit to the end of the cable yourself from most hardware outlets. If you wish to keep all the other European plugs and socket block, just fit one plug to the end of the block cable. Otherwise computer hardware outlets, Maplin, PC World etc, will have complete British connector cables and leads with the correct plugs and sockets on the ends. I hope that is of some use for you, Nev.
  18. Hi Niknak, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. Our security expert will be here to take over shortly, but in the meantime please follow these instructions carefully so he has something to work on when he gets here. Please download the latest version of HijackThis from Trend Micro and save it to your desktop. Download HJTInstall.exe to your desktop. Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis . Click on Install. It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop. Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log in your next reply. Notes: Do not use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless, or required for your computer to run like it should.
  19. As well as the links Maynard gave, and also Tootechs advice, have a look on this site for general laptop repair help- Laptop Repair Help Also, perhaps obvious, but please remember to remove the laptops battery and charger connection before starting to disassemble it. Nev.
  20. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. There are what is known as a caddy available, you fit the drive into it and then plug it into a USB port. Have a look here- http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=221180 Or much cheaper here- Amazon.com: USB 2.0 to IDE 2.5" Hard Disk Drive HDD Aluminum External Case Enclosure: Computer & Accessories Once the drive is removed, you will be able to tell whether it is IDE Broad flat cable, or SATA much smaller cable. Select whichever enclosure suites. Nev.
  21. Hi Steven, being a laptop, the sound system is not a separate card, but part of the main mother board. Unfortunately, because you have reinstalled the operating system, it is beginning to look like a hardware fault. it could be nothing more than a poor connection somewhere as there are plenty of things plugged into sockets or onto pins on the mother board, and it could just be one of these worked loose. It would mean taking the laptop to bits though to re-seat those connections, and laptops are fiddly things at best, with some makes being a real pain and only to be done by an expert. I can only say, if you feel confident to open it up and have a look, OK, but if there is the slightest doubt, then take it to be looked at by a qualified repair technician. If you do decide to open it up, remove the battery and connection to the charger first, and take precautions against static. Nev.
  22. Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. Have you looked in Device management? If not, click "Start" then Run, type in or copy and paste- devmgmt.msc then click OK or Enter. Scroll down the list to DVD/CD-ROM Drives, click the plus sign on the left, are thwere any red or yellow marks next to them? Let us know what you find there please. Nev.
  23. Hi Steven, when you say you had to do a complete reboot, do you mean a complete reinstall of Windows, the operating system? Is that why you lost files and data? Aso, you say you used Regcure, Please don't use it again, most of these so called registry cleaners, can without real expert knowledge, remove or damage vital system files and we don't normally recommend their use for that reason.
  24. Hi Julie, is this a broadband ADSL modem or are you using a dial up modem? If it is a broadband connection, I think that it may be a problem with your browser, so which are you using, Internet explorer, Firefox, or other? If you are using Internet explorer and it has been updated to internet explorer 8, there have been issues with it, sometimes stalling, or coming up with the "Internet explorer has encountered a problem and has to close" Message. You can uninstall it and it will roll back to I.E.7 providing the computer is old enough to have originally been loaded with it. However if that doesn't work or cannot be rolled back, have you tried Firefox from Mozilla? It can be downloaded from here- Mozilla | Firefox web browser & Thunderbird email client Nev.
  25. Hi, and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help Wyrdskien, I have answered your question, I hope it is what you need. Nev.
