Hi Wyrdskein, Which programs have you tried? is Audacity one of them? If not try it. Once your Audio is loaded, (you may have to convert it to a WAV or MP3 file) The audio tracks are shown as the full waveform, with the blank bits between, you just edit out the blank parts. If a click is heard, try again and edit out perhaps a half second from the end of one, and the start of the next. You can also fade out one and fade in the other as well if you wish, then drag the track into the preceding one so one fades into the other. Audacity can be downloaded from here- Audacity: Free Audio Editor and Recorder I hope that will help, Nev.

Unable to access safe mode, restore or any programs
Plastic Nev replied to caskin's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I doubt that there is anything wrong with the hard drive, like Kelly I think there is a malware problem. Do everything as instructed below, then post an explanation of what your problem is and the HJT Log in the malware infection removal forum, here- Malware Infection Removal - Computer Support Forums - FreePCHelp.co.uk Please do the following for us: Please download the latest version of HijackThis from Trend Micro and save it to your desktop. Download HJTInstall.exe to your desktop. Doubleclick HJTInstall.exe to install HijackThis. By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis . Click on Install. It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop. Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis. Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in Notepad. Include this log in your next reply. Notes: Do not use the AnalyseThis button, its findings are dangerous if misinterpreted. Do not have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless, or required for your computer to run like it should. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our malware removal expert will be with you as soon as he can. New Build Questions & Suggestions?
Plastic Nev replied to hypnosis75's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, Sometimes it can be best to start off with what sort of budget you have and how much you are willing to spend, otherwise we could end up recommending something that will cost a fortune. It will be the best computer in the world, but you will be bankrupt. Any idea's on prices and a fuller explanation of your needs will help. Also do you need the external stuff, keyboard, mouse, screen etc as they will take some of your cash if not using second hand that you already have. Nev. -
Thanks for the update, and we know now it was the card. Best of luck. Nev.

Some DVD's not recognised
Plastic Nev replied to DAIPWYSO's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, being an older drive I suspected that would be the case. Your drive is for DVD+ (plus) only, but the disk it won't play is DVD- (minus), a different type. Newer drives will play both but I am afraid if you want to play those DVD's you will have to buy an up to date drive. They are not that expensive either, I recently upgraded my old clunker from DVD play only to a rewriter, which does nearly everything except make toast and a cup of tea. Nev. -
64-Bit OS Error - Need Updated Mainboard Bios
Plastic Nev replied to GOYA's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Oh dear, I didn't realise it would be a paid for download, unless another member knows otherwise though I doubt there will be free BIOS updates available elsewhere, but you never know, we have some good folk around who may know. -
Will GeForce 9800GT Work?
Plastic Nev replied to PhilDuck's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Philduck and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, I have to ask, if not possible to buy on line, is there no other computer parts and spares dealers in your area? A smaller and local company may have staff with the experience to offer advice face to face. However, Graphics is not my area so will leave that for one of our more graphics oriented members. Next is the RAM you are looking at and the operating system, Windows 7 should be able to run with the amount you are thinking of, but Windows 7 has not yet been released, so what is the computer running on now? -
64-Bit OS Error - Need Updated Mainboard Bios
Plastic Nev replied to GOYA's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Goya, welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. Have a look here, http://biosagentplus.com/?ref=29 there is a scanner that will analyse your BIOS and hopefully be able to find which updates or upgrades you need from there. They are the agents for Phoenix, the makers of your BIOS. Nev. -
Hi Goya, two things, it isn't starting and so far we don't know what it is to be able to find it in msconfig. Secondly we do not recommend registry cleaners, they can be disastrous if used incorrectly. JIF, Unless any one can give us some information otherwise, I would advise you ask the original question in our malware section in case it is malware based.

I just noticed, sorry to be a little late but, Happy Birthday Chiaz I hope you have a good one.

Some DVD's not recognised
Plastic Nev replied to DAIPWYSO's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
If only newer DVD's will not play, rather than an encryption issue I suspect it may be down to DVD type. Considering your XP based machine being older, it will also have an older DVD drive installed. Can you tell us a bit more about the drive and what it is supposed to be able to handle. For instance DVD+ and DVD- as well as other types. It should also tell you on the DVD itself what type it is. Nev. -
Hi, I can find no reference to the Roaming\syeaggo.dll in any processes or unwanted processes lists that I know of, it is obviously something that should start but can't due to a missing file. Do you have any ideas as to which program that is in the start up list that it may belong to? Nev.

When it does happen again, open the one marked "System", any events with a red cross and error, a double click on it should open a box with a description of the error, if you can post all of that please. Nev.

OK thanks, the documentation isn't specific enough to tell us the board has both IDE and SATA, so yes, you can run the two together, for simplicity and to save reinstalling the operating system to a larger drive on its own, leave the 40GB one in, and install whichever drive you want as slave or extra.

Hi Vamp, will you please click on this link and read it- http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/introductions/7940-use-forum-and-post-new-messages.html Before posting any more messages. If you follow forum etiquette and rules we will be glad to help. Nev.

Was this straight after the problem occurred that you only got that message? it is straight after the problem that we need to know what shows up in that list. Nev.

Hi and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. I am afraid I can only offer the simple answer of, checking the monitor connection cable is fully plugged in to both the monitor and the PC. As you say another older monitor works fine, then it would seem that there is a problem with the new monitor and suggest taking it back in the morning. Take the PC with you as well so they can set it up to prove it one way or the other. At this stage to go any further than checking the connections could remove your claim on warranty. If there is any hassle from PC World of any sort, quote the sale of goods act at them. Also Take the receipt with you as well, they probably won't help at all without that. Nev.

Hi, the IDE to SATA converter, which is what I think Kelly meant, there is one here- Startech IDE To SATA Drive Motherboard - Adapter - Ebuyer The fixing brackets for a new drive should come with the drive I would have thought. However, to decide which way do you go, do you buy a SATA drive then the adapter, do you buy a IDE drive and save the cost of the adapter, or do you replace the small 40GB existing drive with say a 500GB drive. Take the first option, you will need the adapter, can the price of a new SATA drive be that much cheaper and more than £14, than an IDE one? only you can decide from looking at what is available either locally or googleing on the net. The last option, a replacement drive for the old one. There will be the messing about of transferring the operating system onto the new drive, and that depends on if you have a disk, and whether it is the right type of disk to do that. Whichever way you decide to go, let us know and we may be able to give further help if needed. Nev.

Hi again Jay, a couple of things come to mind, but first did you try cleaning the contacts on the RAM modules as I suggested. The motherboard number and make should be visible when the cover is removed. Have you had any repairs done on the machine since you bought it, from I assume brand new? That may have resulted in a different motherboard being fitted, hence crucial not recognising it. If cleaning the contacts on the RAM hasn't done the trick, then it may well be either faulty or not compatible after all.
-
Tootech may be able to answer this, but the ticking sounds like a relay not quite energising, though I don't know if there would be such a device on a modern mother board. However it does point to a PSU fault, also the beeps may be the BIOS complaining of too low a voltage. So if you can borrow a PSU to try, it would be the next thing. Nev.

Internet connection issues for most programs
Plastic Nev replied to prince_yuki's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Prince Yuki, I have looked at your HJT log and although no expert, I can see at least one issue, when one of our malware experts looks in they will take it further, it may well be malware causing your problem. Nev. -
Hi Trucker and welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help, I think first thing would be to get rid of the virus and other malware, that in itself may be holding you back from doing anything. But before we go further can you tell us as much as possible about the PC, I assume it is a desktop, we need to know the make and model, the operating system on it and as much as you can tell us about the faults and the messages you get. Nev.

Hi Jay, it is possible the new stick of RAM could be a faulty one, however before we consign it to the return envelope, it may just be the contacts on the card edge need cleaning. Remove the stick, and if you have one, a pencil eraser that has the harder blue end for erasing ink, use that to gently rub over the contacts, wipe off any residue with a cloth and try it again. If you don't have an eraser of that type, an ordinary one or some very very fine emery cloth but do not scrub at the contacts, just a gentle rub to remove any dirt. Nev.

My goodness Doug, that is just one big orange mess, and even once it has gone there will be red or orange covering everything. It will take some serious rain to wash it away too.

Is my motherboard pooped???
Plastic Nev replied to Barnsley Lad's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi, as Dalo said, try removing the card and plug the monitor into the on board monitor output socket and try again. If still nothing, I suspect a power supply fault rather than the mother board, although if I am right sometimes a power supply failure can damage the mother board as well. However, if it is possible to borrow a power supply from another machine, that will at least tell us something. Nev.
