  1. Hi and welcome to ExTS When you say "rebuilt" do you mean you have re-installed Vista or have you replaced internal hardware and used the old Hard Drive with Vista on it?
  2. Hi Does the CD work OK if you put it in another machine ? Obviously don't go through the installation process. Boot the machine up then put in the CD. You should be able to see it if you click on "Computer" If you right click on the disk itself > Explore you should see the files that are on the disk. If you can get this far then the disk is probably OK.
  3. I am using Win 8 at the moment. I bought it as a present to self and to keep up with advancements. To be quite frank - I think I prefer Win 7. I have had this machine for just over a month. Used it every day. I still have trouble finding my way around. The vast majority of the apps on the Start Screen I don't use. I leave them there ...... just in case ! I do like the boot time. It is quick. Getting used to the Search Charm - which I quite like too. Why have they got to call it a "Charms Bar" ?? It sounds like something from Harry Potter ! I know this OS was designed for touch screens - and this, presumably, will feature more in the future. My son has his own buisness and manufactures and sells interactive LCD screens. He says that he has to use Win 8 ( customer preference ) but hates it !! I have not got to that stage yet. :)
  4. In addition to BreatGritain's questions it would help if we knew the answer to this that I asked earlier
  5. I have sent him a PM. He should get to you soon :)
  6. Yep - no altering the BIOS for the recovery partition. It should lead you through the process and take your system back to the way it was when you first bought it. Make sure it is stable before you do anything else. You will need to go through all of the critical updates from Microsoft to bring the system up-to-date. I would be inclined to do this manually a handful at a time as I see so many system crashes when the whole lot are attempting to install at the same time. Don't connect to the internet until you have set the updates option to Manual. You will have the pre-installed AV and other rubbish which you will need to remove. Install either Essentials / Avira / Avast ( just one ) You may need to install the LAN / WiFi drivers from the disk that you have to get internet access.
  7. I can't see it being a pc or router setting. ( I am willing to be proved wrong ) We have a member who used to install home networks - he may have experience of similar symptoms. I will ask him to take a look :)
  8. We have a couple of Moderators who may be able to advise you - they should be on-line soon.
  9. The Boot order I mentioned is in the BIOS. This is to force it to look at the CDROM first before the hard drive.. If you elect to use the recovery partition it should just take you through the re-install step by step. Go for this. There is no real difference.
  10. OK I think it is time to bite the bullet and re-install. I suspect the both options will revert your system to the way it was when first shipped. ( including bloatware ) You may wish to take a look here: click here This is a legal free download. If you have Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit you can burn the ISO to DVD and use this. You will need the 25 character Product Key off the label. It MUST be exactly the same OS that you have installed otherwise it will not validate. If there are problems I would revert to your disks. You need to make sure that the CDROM is first in the boot order in the BIOS. Do you know how to do this ? You will - of course - lose all that is on the drive.
  11. I would have guessed at channel interference - you have just ruled that out. Does this happen every time? I assume that it doesn't matter which you d/load on the other loses connectivity ? Are they both wireless or ethernet connections ? When you say you struggle to maintain the connection - does the number of bars indicating signal strength drop ? Icon bottom right of screen.
  12. We are a good team :) Are both routers set on the same channel do you know ?
  13. I added a bit to my last post before you posted - don't know if you saw it. ?? re putting Normal Mode back in msconfig
  14. Hi and welcome to ExTS 2 Routers ....... 2 ISPs Do you have 2 different and independant phone lines ?
  15. Thanks for the Heads-Up Startbuck :)
  16. You will need the 25 character Product Code from the sticker on the PC so that you can activate the new install. Do you have anything on the drive that is needed? It may be possible using a Hard Drive to USB Adapter to access the drive ( there are no guarantees )
  17. If this was a wireless connection you probably wouldn't have a connection. That happened with me too ?? This is not good If you have not put the msconfig setting back to Normal Startup by putting a check in the box and clicking OK your machine is still in diagnostic startup. This may explain why some of the features are not working. If you are in Normal Mode and stable ( ish ) ....... Try running sfc /scannow again. We are getting close to a re-install :(
  18. Let us know how you get on with the replacements :)
  19. Hi - sorry for the delay ....... I had a problem after I messed with Services .....so will avoid that :) Try this ... Boot up > Start > type in ....msconfig ....ENTER Put a check next to Diagnostic Startup > OK This will load essential drivers and services ...... but more than Safe Mode. You will need a re-start. Is the system stable if you boot up Normally?
  20. What does it say on the disk with "Apps and Drivers" ? I am going to check out the next bit on my win 7 machine ( on Win 8 at the moment ) Will be back soon :)
  21. Hi This should be a last resort :) If you are installing the correct driver it shouldn't. Your system is 64bit - did you install the 64 bit driver ? If you use F8 again .... There should be an option "Repair your Computer" Have you tried this? Again - I will be online - even if my on-line status doesn't show green :)
  22. I don't suppose you could connect to this temporarily by moving the pc or the router ? ( I don't know how much short you are ) This is the card that uses the ethernet cable. I assume you mean the Wireless Adapter ? The router is like a radio transmitter - receiver. It uses different frequencies - much like a radio picking up different channels. Some of these frequencies overlap - ( there are 13 of them ) The channels to select to rectify interference problems are 1 / 6 / 11 I suspect your router will be set to one of these. I would like to check and select a different one. Using one of the laptops that has a stable connection: Open an internet browser and in the address bar ( where the http\\ www. is ...) delete all that is there and type in .. 192.168.1.1 .........then hit ENTER You will be prompted for a username and password. If you have not set these leave the username blank and the password is Admin. Once inside the router settings you are looking for the Wireless tab Click on this > Basic Wireless Settings > Manual On the Network Mode you should have a 5GHz and a 2.4 GHz band I suggest that the setting here should be "Mixed" Is it ? You should also see Channel as an option. This is usually set to auto There should also be other options available ( 1 to 13 ) Try selecting channel 1 You can try channel 6 and 11 too if necessary. Save the changes - save settings - bottom of page. ============== I am not familiar with the Arris - but the manual suggests that 2 telephone line connections are possible. Do you have this option or just one line connected ? ============== Is this a fibre-optic connection ? ==============
  23. I agree. From what you have said I would bet on the m/board - but it will certainly be one of them :) Good Luck.
