Does this machine connect to your home network OK using the internal wireless adapter ? I assume that this machine does actually have a wireless adapter ? Start ...type in .....devmgmt.msc ..............ENTER Click the + next to Network Adapters What exactly is listed ?

They are not silly questions - you have had a problem and want answers. We cannot say categorically that the USB Ports are fine - but the chances are that they will be OK. Again it is unlikely. The USB stick works off the 5v rail from the motherboard. It is unlikely that this would stop the system booting - more likely that the software became corrupt. This is why I was asking you to try "Repair your Computer" The re-install will have fixed this. In some cases this is the only option - but it is a last resort :) Let us know how things go.

Put the drive back in the machine and switch on. Immediately start tapping F8 about once per second. Can you get to the Advanced Start-up Options ? If so - there should be an option to "Repair Your Computer" Is this a possibility ?

Hi, Please confirm .... is this the back of your new Video Card ? http://rog.asus.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/11/ASUS-GTX-680-4GB-DCII-display-799x347.jpg If so .... the connections shown are female ( no pins ) Your adapter would need to be a male DVI (pins) to VGA adapter. See here: click here The first adapter you linked to is a female DVI - you must get the correct one. The Belkin is the correct connection.

Hi and welcome to ExTS Go back to Device Manager and right click on the card > Click on "Update Driver Software" When prompted select the automatic option. (you will need internet access) This should locate the most up-to-date drivers for the card.

Hi and welcome to ExTS Have you got TCP/IP settings set to "Obtain IP Address and DNS Server Address" automatically ? click here [assumes Win 7 ] If not ....make a note of the numbers that are there ( you may want to change back later ) and check the appropriate boxes.

As I said before - Ubuntu / Linux etc is a disk-based OS. There is nothing on the disk that will allow you to repair your Windows OS. If you ran chkdsk /f this may have fixed errors on the drive . Have you tried booting the drive again ?

Hi, We are not ignoring you - but we are not here 24/7 either :) You have circled the main power connection from the PSU - the 20(4) way one. There is only one socket that this should fit in. Are you saying that you can connect it in other sockets on the motherboard ? The CDROM drive will be powered by a molex connection. To test this you will need a voltmeter set to read 12v ( probably 20v ) Disconnect the molex power connection from the CDROM Drive ( and the dvd Drive ) Without the 20 way connection use the voltmeter on a free molex connection and get a reading - it should read 12v. Connect the 20(4) way connection to the mother board ............does the molex connection still read 12 v ?

Hi and welcome to ExTS I am not familiar with Raspberry Pi - but I assume that if you have written the image to your external drive this is just a file or files and not an installation. You can format it to put it back to an empty drive - this will wipe all files and folders. If you want to see if the original backups are still on the drive you can do the following : With the drive connected ...........and assuming the allocated drive letter is F: Start .....type in .....cmd .........right click on .....cmd.exe ....that appears top left > Run as Administrator At the prompt type in ..... F: .......ENTER You will see F:\> Now type in ..... ATTRIB /s /d ........ ENTER [ there is a space after each section ] This will list all files and folders on the drive. If it lists your original folders they may well be hidden. If they are not listed you can assume that they have been overwritten / deleted.

Hi and welcome to ExTS Is the Win 7 an upgrade version of the OS ? You say you "upgraded to Vista" - is this an upgrade version or is it a full install version of the OS ? If Vista is on a CD ...........is the CDROM first in the boot order in the BIOS ?

Not sure if Starbuck missed this - so I will try to answer your question. Starbuck and I both use Microsoft Security Essentials at the moment. This is totally free and updates regularly. As it is a Microsoft product it will check to see if your OS is legal before it installs. Avast and Avira are two other AVs that I have seen recommended. Yes - this is your best option.

The hard drive will be allocated a letter if you click on Start > "Computer" Make a note of this. Then click Start > type in ......cmd .....click on the cmd.exe that appears top left > Run as Administrator At the prompt type ..... chkdsk /f X: ......where X: is the drive letter for your drive (there is a space between each ) This will check the drive for errors. Also run WinDFT (this is Hitachi but you can run it on any disk ) click here Let me know the results please. You can try booting up from the drive again - no harm done.

They are both Disk-based Operating systems - or could be loaded as an OS on the drive. They do not have a "repair" option as far as I know. Is the drive recognised? Does it get allocated a drive letter in Start > Computer ?

What makes you think this ? It could be the PSU. If the PSU has died it is far cheaper and an easier fix. You could test this yourself with a voltmeter or take it to a small pc repair shop. Alternatively swap it for a known good one. If you have to swap the motherboard you would be best advised to get one exactly the same. Your hard drive and operating system will then be sure to boot up.

This is a CD-based Operating System isn't it? Which specific Disk are you using ? I would be inclined to take the hard drive out and connect it to another machine. We can test it from there.

To be honest - I am not too sure. I would suspect that they are ....... but .... Synapse or one of the other staff may be able to provide a more positive answer.

Hi Take a look here: click here No POST beep is not encouraging. If - when you have stripped the motherboard down to basics - we get a series of POST beeps this will be good news :) If no beeps at this stage - you are looking at a Power Supply or Motherboard problem. :(
