  1. Do you have an option to Boot from USB Device in the BIOS ? If you do you - and if you can get hold of an external CDROM Drive - you could try your repair disk from there. Alternatively ..... Take the hard drive out and connect it to another machine using a 2.5 inch hard drive to USB adapter ( or enclosure ). From there we can run some tests on the drive itself.
  2. That was my next question :) Did you used to get one beep before ? Have you tried the suggestions post #8
  3. I know you want to fix your problem .....but 3 posts and a new thread in 10 minutes !! I merged your new thread on the same subject with your existing thread.
  4. Obviously your monitor is OK. Take the Video Card out and clean the contacts thoroughly with a pencil eraser. Replace the card and try again. Do you have an on-board video option ? (another connection on the back of the machine that the monitor can connect to )
  5. Hi, At least you can now see your files :) I think so. Go back and tick " Hide protected files of OS" ( there may be a "Reset to Defaults" ....I am not on Win7 at the moment ) Click Start > type in .....cmd .....right click on cmd.exe that appears top left > click on Run as Administrator At the prompt type ... F: ...............then hit ENTER You should see F:\> ........ F: is the drive letter that is showing in your picture for the external drive. Check this first. Then type ..... ATTRIB -s -h *.* /s /d There is a space between each Explanation: ATTRIB allows us to change the properties of a file or folder s refers to a system file h refers to a hidden file -h will remove the attribute from that file /s processes files /d processes folders
  6. Not good. Is this your board ? click here If so - make them an offer :)
  7. Are you looking to replace the one you have ? This is the socket type ..........where the Central Processor chip fits. Not all CPUs will fit all boards - they are socket specific. This is an old motherboard - if you are looking to replace it you may have some difficulty. What problems are you having with the system ?
  8. Looking good so far :) Starbuck will be able to advise - but this ( if it is a trial version ) will be asking you for some cash shortly. There are some totally free - and excellent - AVs available. Reminder - only have one AV on your system at any one time.
  9. There certainly should be :( Go here: http://support.acer-euro.com/drivers/notebook/as_5630.html Download and install the Chipset drivers There are 2 VGA drivers. Try the Intel one first. Let me know the results. Hunter21 suggested ... We touched on this in post #6 It is a possibility - we are just trying all of the other options first. A card is much easier. Yours will be a chip and this, to be honest, is a specialised job as they are soldered in directly to the motherboard. Do you have a monitor that you could connect ? If so - we can determine if the problem is directly linked to the graphics chip.
  10. Try this: Start > type in .....cmd.......right click on .....cmd.exe ..( top left of screen ) > Run as Administrator At the command prompt type in ...... sfc /scannow .......ENTER There is a space after sfc This will need a restart. This will check the system files. If there is no difference after the first scan - run it again as it often picks up things on the second run.
  11. I doubt that this would affect the graphics. That is a difficult question to answer. Re-installing is usually a last resort. Did you try up-dating the drivers ? Also - what is listed in Device Manager if you click the + next to Sound / Video / Game controllers ?
  12. Those two items ( no others ) are ticked in mine too. Go back to Nev's post #8 and see if "Security" is available now please.
  13. Hi You are looking at the System32 folder itself. You need to go inside the folder to rshx32.dll
  14. Just one other thing ......... by restoring it to factory settings you will lose all data and installed programs off the drive. (obviously this is what you want - a clean drive) Don't forget to backup your files and photos first :)
  15. That is fine - this is a SATA connection which is what you have ordered :)
  16. If it is not running from the disks it could be a problem with the CDROM drive itself. It would have looked at the disk first and, it there was an Operating System or something to boot from there, it would run that first. Obviously it is not "seeing" what is on the disk. From the Advanced Start-up Menu ( F8 ) have you tried "Repair your Computer" ?
  17. Hi try this: Start ....type in .....cmd ......right click on the cmd.exe that appears top left of screen > Run as Administrator At the command prompt type ..... regsvr32 rshx32.dll ............hit ENTER [ there is a space after regsvr32 ] This will re-register rshx32.dll
  18. It probably isn't a card as such, but a chip. Try the following.... Go back to device manager and click on the + next to Sound / Video / Game controllers Right click on the Graphics Device > Update Hardware Software Let it search automatically for this. If you are in Safe Mode you probably will not have an internet connection. F8 again > Safe Mode with Networking should solve this. =============== The laptop drivers are here if we need them: click here
  19. It is more likely to be a software problem. Start > Run ....type in ......devmgmt.msc ......ENTER Click the + next to the devices listed. Are there any yellow exclamation marks or red Xs ? Also ..... Use F8 again > try "Last Known Good Configuration"
  20. Hi ......just jumping in :) The "Security" Tab is "created" by the rshx32.dll Start > Computer > C: > Windows > System32 Scroll down and look to see if rshx32.dll is there. If it is right click on it > Properties > Security Under "Allow" for "System" - "Administrators" - "Users" I have the following 2 boxes ticked.... "Read and Execute" "Read" There are no ticks in the "Deny" column.
  21. Another MBAM scan would do no harm - post the log for Starbuck to take a look at :)
  22. You said this in your first post .... Is the CDROM the first in the Boot Order in the BIOS ? If not - move it up and try the disks again.
  23. Hi Using the same method to get into the Advanced Boot Options ( tap F8 about once per second ) You should see this screen try "Last Known Good Configuration" http://www.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/10srt.png If Last Known Good Configuration doesn't work .... Select "Repair your Computer"
  24. Hi and welcome to ExTS This is a laptop ? If you boot up in Safe Mode does it do the same ? Switch on > tap F8 about once per second > select Safe Mode from the list of options
