  1. Seedy21 will pick this up tomorrow I am sure - :)
  2. OK The simplest thing to do is to use your flatmate's laptop connected to the Belkin and then use the CD to set up the router. Once it is set up you should be able to connect both wireless and wired. Give this a try and let us know the results :) I assume that the Belkin is new ? Do other students have a router set up in their rooms ?
  3. I think seedy21's suggestion re. using your flatmate's laptop to setup the router will be far easier than doing it manually. However ........... connect the router to the wall connection. I assume that you have an ethernet cable to connect your laptop to the router ? Use this and try to connect to the internet. Let me know the result.
  4. Hi You didn't answer this ... Is this a college network ? How are you connecting the Belkin ? Presumably through a filter to a phone socket?
  5. Hi Natalie I hope you don't mind me butting in seedy21 ? Natalie - how are you connecting to the internet at the moment ? Presumably not through the BELKIN wirelessly ? Start > type in .....devmgmt.msc .....Enter > click the + next to Network Adapters. What is listed ? Are there any yellow exclamation marks ? When you typed in 192.168.2.1 did you delete everything else in the address bar ?
  6. Did you look in Power Options ?
  7. Hi Mark and welcome to ExTS Can you start up in Safe Mode ? Constantly tap F8 about once per second after switching on. This will take you to an options screen. Select Safe Mode. If this doesn't work - take the battery out and try booting up off the Mains power adapter. Let us know the results.
  8. Hi and welcome to ExTS I think this may be a Power Options setting. Start > Control Panel > Power Options Take a look here to see if the computer is set to go into sleep mode instead of shutting down.
  9. Hi Randy I knew the avatar was Einstein - I have seen it used before ...............somewhere ???????
  10. Hi and welcome to ExTS Did you have qualified help to get rid of the virus ? One of our security experts should be along soon to help :)
  11. It looks like a power issue. Did you try Maynard's FixIt from the link ?
  12. I have seen this before. The USB ports may not be providing the 500mA / 5v that they should. Your printer is only receiving data the Flash Drives need power too. Do you have anything else ( external hard drive ? ) that requires power from the ports to try ?
  13. It does sound as if something is trying to draw a lot of power - but I would have thought that a Corsair would have tripped out before getting over-loaded. I can't see a blown capacitor drawing that much power ??????? Very odd. Have you checked the capacitors for raised caps / discolouration / etc ?
  14. Hi, I have deleted the duplicate post. Under no circumstances us any software to modify the registry. It can do more harm than good.
  15. As a work-around you could get something like this: click here
  16. Good to know that your system is up and running again :) Suggest that you back-up that important data .............just in case.
  17. Hi and welcome to ExTS If it gets to the desktop when cold - then afterwards shuts down sooner it does sound like overheating. Your loose heatsink wouldn't help - but that, presumably, has been rectified. The graphics problem is a cause for concern as most m/boards have the graphics in-built. If you have a separate card you are lucky. Fitting the new fan should solve the over-heating problem but I fear that you still have a problem with the motherboard.
  18. That would be my conclusion too - but never heard of this before ??? If you put the 430Watt back - is it still OK ?
  19. Thanks Armageddon - I wasn't sure if it had progressed any.
  20. You need something like DBAN. click here This will absolutely clear EVERYTHING off the drive so that it cannot possibly be recovered. It wipes even the formatting and leaves the drive as it was beforehand. If you are going to rely on the recovery partition to re-install then you may lose this if you use this or similar software. I am not sure if it is possible to nuke just C: drive and leave the recovery partition.
  21. Hi and welcome to ExTS I assume that the re-install went off with no problems ? try taking the RAM out > give the contacts a clean with a pencil eraser > replace. If still the same - try with just one RAM module at a time. Swap over if no different.
  22. Hi and welcome to ExTS Are you sure that it is the PSU making the noise ? Do you have case fans that could be the cause? Suggest that you strip the motherboard of all cards and connections ( even the hard drive and DVD drive ) Leave only the 20(4) way power connection fitted. Switch on. Does the system still make the strange noises? if not - add the RAM. try again. Add the other cards / connections one at a time - try switching on after each. Make sure you leave the system long enough to be sure that the card / connection just added is not the cause.
  23. Are the emails all from the same source ? ........... or is it every email with a picture attachment. If I PM you my email address is it possible to forward me the attachment to see if I can open it? If it is personal - no problem. Alternatively - forward the email to a friend and ask if they can open it. If somebody else can open it then the problem lies with your system.
  24. Sometime members tell us one thing and it turns out later that what we were told was incorrect. It is best to double-check. Sometimes it is easier to ask rather than read the whole thread again - especially if members are pressed for time. It would also help if you could reply a little quicker ( I realise that this may not be possible ) 4 or 5 days between posts mean that whoever has replied to you will have forgotten what has already been posted - and it takes time to read through a thread again :) Try resetting the BIOS to defaults. Take the CMOS battery out - leave for a couple of minutes - replace with the + on top. What is the make and spec of the 2 RAM modules that you have ? I am wondering if the RAM voltage is set correctly in the BIOS.
  25. More than likely :)
