  1. Hi This will most probably be a setting in the BIOS. Next time it appears press the DEL key - this should take you to the BIOS options. Check the Boot Order. The CDROM drive should be first and the Hard Drive second.
  2. As you say - this narrows it down to your specific machine. Go back to Device Manager ( devmgmt.msc ) and right click on your wireless adapter ( Broadcom 802.11g Network Adapter ) Uninstall. Re-boot. Windows should find "new hardware" and re-install the drivers. What is the make and model number of your laptop ? - in case we need to locate the drivers.
  3. Is this the one on the back of the router ? If somebody tried to connect with a wireless laptop for the first time would they need to input this network key ?
  4. Very odd !! Good to hear all is well again :)
  5. Hi and welcome to ExTS I will ask one of our security experts to advise you further. Do NOT run any software ( Combofix etc ) without the direction of our security experts. Is your router using WPA2 security ? In other words do you need a password to initially access it or is it un-secured ? Is your network key [ password ] ( assuming you have one ) easily guessed ?
  6. Hi and welcome to ExTS If you still get the error message can you post it here please - it may help. Include the STOP error. Can you still access the Advanced Startup Options ( using F8 after switching on ) ? Try "Last Known Good Configuration" / "Safe Mode"
  7. Presumably this is with the mains adapter plugged in ? If you have a volt meter - what is the voltage on the jack that is plugged into the laptop ? This is the only thing I can think of that would possibly cause the LED to stay off but supply enough power to run the machine.
  8. Hi Tom Those temperatures are fine :)
  9. Hi Tom Have you used it yet ? Let us know how things went.
  10. Hi Tom Try Prime95 http://files.extremeoverclocking.com/file.php?f=103 I have not used it - but it is supposed to do what you want :)
  11. Strange comment from BT engineer. We have a fibre-optic installation engineer as a member - I will ask him if he can advise. If you are getting 38 MB/s with an ethernet cable it is either the wireless side of the router or your adapter. Start > type in ....devmgmt.msc ......Enter Click the + next to Network Adapters Are there any yellow exclamation marks against the WiFi adapter ? If you get a friend / neighbour to try connecting wireless with their laptop - do they get the same speed ?
  12. Hi and welcome to ExTS Regarding your DVD drive: driver version ......21/06/2006 6.2.9200.16384. This is an old driver. I am not running win 8 so I hope things are the same as 7 ............. Start > type in ......devmgmt.msc .......Enter Click the + next to DVD CDROM Right click on your device > update driver Let Windows search the internet. You could try uninstalling the drivers from here. I am unsure if that drive would be supported by Win 8 - if it is Windows will locate "New Hardware" and install the drivers.
  13. If you are getting no POST beeps with the m/board stripped down ( even the drives disconnected ) then the problem lies with the PSU or m/board itself. If you can borrow a PSU ( any wattage ) to try - I would swap it to check. If you get the same condition then it is a m/board problem.
  14. Hi and welcome to ExTS It could be as simple as the LED has died. Does it ever light - even a flicker ?
  15. The only way you will find out is to try what I suggested. This is not a Power On Self Test ( POST ) beep.
  16. Hi, When the machine freezes at the BIOS screen does it beep ? If so ....how many and what sequence ? ( 1 long 2 short for instance ) ============ Take one of the RAM modules out and try booting now. If the same ...swap the RAM modules over and try the other one. Let me know the result.
  17. It will not boot up but should beep - that is if it did before. Can you confirm that there is an on-board speaker and that it did beep before. If it did - and isn't now that you have completely stripped down the m/board to just the 20(4) way cable - it is either the PSU or m/board that is at fault. ( again ..........assuming you have an internal speaker )
  18. Hi is this a fibre-optic connection ? use this test and let me know the results ( wireless ) please. http://www.speedtest.net/
  19. You are welcome - good to hear that you are able to print :)
  20. Thanks for sharing this with us Randy - it brings a tear to your eye ............and it SHOULD!
  21. Good to hear that your problem is now resolved :)
  22. Hi, This sounds like the recovery partition - do not touch this. I wrote this earlier .... Plug the external drive in. Then Start > type in ......diskmgmt.msc ......Enter Your external drive will show up here. You should see G: and one or two extra letters. If the letters are G: / H: / J: try the one next to G: that is usually where the Operating System etc is located.
  23. Hi Just to confirm: I have Vista 32 Bit with 4GB RAM. The 4GB is recognised ( Start ....right click on "Computer" > Properties ) but only about 3.5 GB will be utilised by the operating system. The other 0.5 GB may be used elsewhere ( video card for instance ) Try the Crucial scanner and see what comes back from that ( put the old RAM in ) click here
  24. Hi Bella Is this it? click here Please run the scans that Armageddon requested. Your problem could be the 1GB RAM - this is barely enough to run Vista.
  25. This is no indication that the PSU is good :) Let us know what happens when you strip the m/board down.
