1. Hi Mike and welcome to ExTS If some of us here were 52 again we would be dancing in the street :) Ask away - somebody here will no doubt have a suggestion or two.
2. Thanks for the additional information re. Flash and Adobe. Good to hear that you are all OK now :)
3. Hi Fulldps and welcome to ExTS :) Thanks for the additional information. Good to hear that this thread has helped another member with a problem.
4. Hi clif and welcome to ExTS Good to hear that we have another satisfied member :) (I think it was Bluesplayer's "netsh ....." advice that did it.)
5. Hi Download Revo Uninstaller from here ( scroll down for the FREE version ) http://www.revouninstaller.com/revo_uninstaller_free_download.html Install it and it will list installed software. If uniblue is there click on it and select "Uninstall" from the toolbar. Select the Advanced Option when prompted.
6. I am sorry - that will not be able to be recovered - assuming we will need to re-install that is :) OK. I suspect that your problem lies with the hard drive itself. To test this I suggest that you download Linux Mint. This is a complete Operating System - not Windows - that we can use to test my theory. Go here and download Mint to your Desktop. click here Click on one of the Mirror Sites near to home. You will need a blank CD ready to put in the drive of your computer. Once you have downloaded the file - click on it and it will automatically go through the burning process and install itself onto the CD. If you put this CD in the drive of the problem computer and switch on it will boot up off this. Warning DO NOT select the install option. We don't want to install it on your system ( not that it would matter in your case ) We want to run it from the CD itself. Once it boots up this will tell us that the rest of your system is OK and the problem is the hard drive itself. It may be possible to see what is on your drive from here. Note: Mint is not Windows - they are 2 different Operating Systems - so navigating around will be different. Let me know how you get on - or if you need more information.
7. Hi Chelsea If you go back to the Boot Order the IDE CD Optiarc DVD should be 1st. If you click on the USB FDC on the page ( usually right side ) it will tell you how to move it Usually with the + / - keys could be up / down arrow. Move the USB FDC down the order to near the bottom. You will need to Save and Exit ( usually F10 ) This will not solve your problem - but at least the DVD drive is where it should be. :) Do you need to access the drive to reclaim any files / data ?
8. Hi again FDC is Floppy Disk Controller - do you have floppy disks or is it a CD? USB CDROM - is your CD Drive inside the case or is it an external one on a cable attached to the USB port ? Can you give me a list of the Boot Options in order please ? - 1st downwards Do you have anything on the drive that you need ?
9. Hi Chelsea and welcome to ExTS It doesn't sound hopeful if I am honest. When you get to the Startup Options ( Safe Mode etc ) is there an option to "Repair this Computer" The recovery disk will put your system back to the way it was when you first got it out of the box. All files and data gone !! Luckily it didn't work - we may be able to access your data for you. Let me know if the Repair option is there and if you have anything on the disk that needs recovering. When you first switch on ..... there should be on screen something that says "press *** to enter Setup" This is usually F2 or DEL I want you to try this ( you have to be quick ) and have a look in the BIOS for "Boot Menu" "Boot Order" or something similar. Once you find it .... Is the DVD CDROM the first in the boot order ? [ it needs to be if you are going to boot off the recovery disk ]
10. Hi, Just found this so you may like to look g4 Maintenance & Service Guide I assume that you don't have recovery disks ? To check that there is a recovery partition please do the following: Start ....type in .......diskmgmt.msc .......ENTER You will see the hard drive(s) and their partitions. The main drive is usually labelled Disk 0 and the partitions labelled C: / D: ( or other letter ) If there is a partition that has no letter attached and is about 10GB this is the recovery partition. If there is none - you don't have one. Let me know which it is please.
11. It is no big deal - it just re-sets the BIOS to defaults :) Your date and time will probably need re-setting afterwards. Let us know how you get on.
12. Keep us informed - It doesn't look hopeful.
13. Hi and welcome to ExTS Switch off at the wall first. Try taking the CMOS battery ( looks like a bright coin ) out for 2 mins then put it back [ + on top ] This will reset the BIOS to defaults. Why do you need to access the BIOS ?
14. Sorry - missed that. One of our security experts will be along to advise further.
15. Hi welcome to ExTS Try a System Restore Start > type in .....system restore ......Enter Click on "Next" You can show dates older by checking the box. Select a date prior to the start of your problem. Your files / photos etc will be fine.
16. Modem - is a simple device that allows you to connect to the internet via cable Router - usually has the facility to connect to the internet via cable or wireless. Allows you to create a network of computers. Your TalkTalk router will have the option to use both. There will be at least one RJ45 socket You will need an ethernet ( RJ45 ) cable You simply connect the cable to the socket on your laptop ( most have one ) and the socket on the router. Nothing else to do.
17. Good to hear you solved your own problems :) The thread will be of use to other Win8 users.
18. Hi and welcome to ExTS I have not tried this myself but the more I read about the subject the more confused I get :) Some of the things I found: 1. It is only possible if your network adapter supports it. 2. If you follow the process ( below ) and the option to enable is greyed out - it is not supported. 3. Some said quite categorically that it is NOT possible. Start > type in ......regedit ....ENTER Path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NativeWifiP\Parameters Value: 1 ( to set this click on the Default in the right panel > Edit [ toolbar ] > Modify In addition to modifying this registry key, you must also configure the network device in the Device Manager. Open Device Manager. ( start > type in ...devmgmt.msc ....ENTER ) Right-click the network card you want to configure and select Device Properties. In the Power Management tab, select the Allow this device to wake up the computer check box. You may need to alter your Power Management settings from Control Panel. Also there may be a setting in the BIOS that needs to be altered. I would be interested to hear if this works :)
19. If there was anything to be found MBAM would have located it. Start > click on Programs Is uniblue listed there ? If it is click on it > there should be an uninstall option.
20. Hi Jerry and welcome to ExTS We have that in abundance :)
21. Hi Spybot is a bit dated. Our security experts recommend MBAM. Download it from here ( you want the free version ) click here It will create a log when it finishes scanning - copy this and post it here please.
22. Keep in touch - you know where we are :)
23. I've got just the thing at "Honest Ken's Value Car Sales"
24. click here click here click here You cannot expect the guys and gals here to do all the groundwork. You need to do some research yourself. Use Google and come up with your suggestions then we can offer an opinion. I suggest you put together all of your specification for review - and not one piece at a time. We do have other people to help too :)
25. How about one of these Nev ? http://www.touchittechnologies.com/products/TouchIT_LCD_Duo_Pro.html ( My son's company :) )
