1. Hi This explains it: http://www.evercase.co.uk/PowerSupplyMeasurement.htm
2. Hi Malwarebytes is constantly updating. You should update this before you run it. Yes - update Java. If the Windows Update is a security one - update this too.
3. Hi and welcome to ExTS Start > Control Panel > Mouse Is there a setting here that is causing your problem ?
4. Interesting reading BreatGritain :)
5. Hi Good to hear that you are up-and-running again. A real community effort on this one :) Could you post the new question in the appropriate thread please? It will help others who are looking for advice on similar issues :)
6. Hi again The graphics card uses the PCIe x 16 slot ( the long one ) PCIe x 1 are the small slots. 450 Watts is suggested as a minimum - I would go for 500 Watts. I would take the PSU out - or at least have a good look at it to make sure it is a standard model. The size and fan position should confirm this.
7. Start .....type in ....essentials ......do not hit Enter yet If you have MS Essentials it will appear as Microsoft Security Essentials top left of your screen. Just a note: If you do have MS Essentials then you need to remove this or Avast. It is not good to run 2 AVs at the same time.
8. Hi I am sure that you will have no problems with this. My only observation is that it has 4GB RAM. If this is a 32 bit Operating System then this is the max. If it is 64 bit then I would prefer to see 6 or 8 GB RAM. It is always a compromise :)
9. Hi, take a look here: Extend your network 100ft ethernet cable
10. [h=1]markymarc2000[/h] If you cannot access it using the caddy it looks as if there may be a problem with the drive surface too. Try this: On the desktop with the caddy connected to the USB port do the following: Start > type in ...........cmd.......(do not hit Enter yet) Right click on the cmd.exe that shows top left of screen > Run as Administrator [ if using XP Start > Run ......cmd ......ENTER ] At the prompt type in ..... chkdsk G:/f ................There is a space after chkdskYou could also try chkdsk G:/r f attempts to fix bad sectors r attempts to recover bad sectors Does G: show up in (My) Computer ?
11. Can you explain what happens ? I will leave a message for our security experts so that they are aware of this thread.
12. Hi Tom and welcome to ExTS We sometimes get questions related to your field that we find difficult to answer - hopefully now there is a member who can :)
13. Is your hard drive SATA ? Does the blue screen suggest that the installation could not determine the type of mass storage device ?
14. Hi OCZ / Corsair / Thermaltake There is a decent OCZ one here click here
15. Hi The specs suggest : 450W or greater PSU with at least 24 Amps on the +12V rail. I don't advise cheap PSUs - buy a decent make.
16. If this is the case then I doubt you would notice too much difference between them. At present Intel rate their CPUs using a star rating Celeron = 1 star Pentium = 2 star i3 = 3 star ( 2 core ) i5 = 4 star ( 4 cores except for i5-661 which is dual core ) i7 = 5 star ( 4 / 6 cores ) The more cores a CPU has the more tasks ( threads ) can be performed at the same time. Some CPUs support Hyper-threading. This enables a CPU to cope with multiple threads at the same time. So to answer your question... It is the model of the processor. Intel have this sorted. i7 are the best. If you have a high end Video Card for instance then you would not see the best from this running it with an i3 CPU. If you are not gaming - as you suggest - or running graphics intensive programs that need to manipulate lots of data - then an i3 CPU would do the job for you just as well as an i7.
17. The Sound Card you linked to is PCI PCIe x 1 is not PCI. See here for the difference: click here
18. Hi Lee and welcome to ExTS Can you start up in Safe Mode ? Switch on from being off and constantly tap F8 key. This will take you to the Advanced Start-up Options. Select Safe Mode from there. If all else fails ( and there are other possibilities ) it should be possible for us to explain how to access your data without putting it into a repair shop.
19. Hi From the pics and the specs I found for your pc ...........there is no PCI slot. There is 1 PCIe x16 slot - which you are going to use for your Video Card. Your PSU ( 250 Watts) is not enough to run the Video Card you suggested. You are going to have to upgrade the PSU too.
20. Hi and welcome to ExTS I assume that you are aware that this is ransom-ware. Under NO CIRCUMSTANCES pay any money to these guys !! Can you boot up in Safe Mode ? Switch on .......constantly tap F8 about once per second Select Safe Mode with Networking from the list of options. Download MBAM from here ( you may get re-directed ....this is OK ) MBAM click here Install it in safe mode and run it. It will produce a log. Please post this here. You will need assistance from one of our security experts - even if MBAM seems to have dealt with the problem.
21. On my phone at the moment if no replies post a reminder and I will pick it up later
22. Hi if the copy of windows that you have been given has been used before -which I suspect - then it is illegal to put it on your system We will not be able to help with this
23. I think it was - yes.
