1. No problem George ...... download it to a memory stick and install it from there.
2. Hi Bob, Upgrading had many issues - most of which have now been resolved BUT .... If your friend wants a laptop with Win 10 on it I would be inclined to look for one that is pre-installed and not bother with the hastle of upgrading. :)
3. Hi joddle, I think the problem may lie with your router. The 100 = 100Mb/s ( Megabits / sec ) 100Mb/s = 12.5 MB/s (Megabytes / sec ) [ 8 bits in a Byte ] So - no matter how fast your NIC cards are - your transfer speed is limited by the speed of your router. I hope this makes sense ?
4. Glad it worked for you. :) I assume that you have deleted the problem icon ?
5. That's fine. Click Start > Right click "Computer" > Click "Properties" You need to know if your system is 64 bit or 32 bit. [ It affects which drivers you need ] The link below is for Win7 - 64bit Then go here: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/product-support/product/inspiron-15r-n5110/drivers/advanced Click on "Network" There are 9 files. 8 of these relate to "Wireless" but the last one is the "Ethernet Controller" Select this and download. It should install immediately after downloading. After it installs check your Wired Internet Connection again. ( Make sure that you have a cable connected from the computer to the router )
6. Hi again, You didn't answer this. The yellow exclamation mark suggests a problem with the drivers. What is the make and model number of your machine. I may be able to locate the appropriate drivers.
7. Hopefully solved .......give it a little longer then let us know :)
8. I will ask Starbuck to take a look here and recommend an Add-blocker / scan to see if that will stop the pop-ups.
9. Hi Roy Printers are not my forte - hence the slow response. When you say Have you deleted and re-installed the drivers ? I assume that the page prints OK if you select colour ? Is the black cartridge full - ie. not low on ink ? Is the black cartridge a Canon or a clone ?
10. Hi Pauline No question is "silly" if you don't know the answer :) Can you try to give us a little more detail please? Is it specific websites or just generally ....any website? Is your email a web-based one like gmail ? Are the adverts "sensitive" ie. rude or just everyday advertisements ? Does it look like this? or are they full page? This is what I get on this site - it doesn't bother me. I may need to pass this back to Starbuck - he is the expert in this field if it is malware based :)
11. Hi George Sorry for the delay in replying. Do you mean that you used the same disk to install Windows on both machines ? Which Operating System is on the problem machine? If you go to Device Manager - are there any yellow exclamation marks against "Network Adapters" when you click on it? What is listed ?
12. I didn't read this in your first post .... So - is it just the desktop icon that is causing the problem? My Win-8 machine died so I am unable to test anything I may suggest from here :( Try this: Go to Windows Live Mail login Click and hold the Windows logo in the address bar Drag the icon to your desktop and release Right click on the icon and select Rename Name the icon Windows Live login or whatever you wish so that you can easily identify it
13. Hi Pauline and welcome to ExTS INTEL QUAD CORE 4X 3.33GHZ - a reasonably decent but average processor. 12GB DDR3 1333MHZ RAM - with this amount of RAM your machine should be quite quick to load installed software etc and it will be capable of manipulating graphics intense programs if this is what you want to do. NVIDIA GEFORCEGTX 480 - this is your video card. It is an average low spec card but good enough if you are not playing high end games. 750GB 7200RPM HIGH SPEED SATA HDD - this is a fast hard drive. The slower ones rotate at 5400 r/m SEASONIC SWITCHING POWER SUPPLY - This is a good make of PSU SUPERMICRO QUALITY MAINBOARD - Supermicro is the manufacturer of the main-circuit-board. The mainboard houses all of the major components. With 12-GB-RAM installed you will probably have a 64 bit Operating System. I see your profile shows Win-7. A 64 bit system allows more RAM to be installed. ( 32 bit systems only use 4GB RAM ) You have 12-GB-RAM. This is much more than an average system usually has. Many will have just 4GB ....some less. RAM is temporary memory. The system uses this ( not you ) and stores data that it needs to reference. Simply - 12GB means that the system can work faster - especially if you have a lot of files open - especially graphics intense software. Your Hard-drive rotates at 7200 r/m. This will allow it to locate data on the disk much faster than the slower drives that many systems have. So - to conclude: This is a system with a good general specification. It should be quite quick. If you are using it for general computing ( using installed programs / email / word processing etc ) you should find it quite quick and more than up to what you want to do. I hope this helps :)
14. Hi tismehi Sorry for the slow response. Could it possibly be a full mailbox on the ISP server ?
15. Sorry joddle - I missed this one somehow. Are you still having problems ?
16. Hi Archie and welcome to ExTS :) Do you know which version of Outlook you had on XP - and which version are you using on Win-7 ? Take a look here - click here There is another option here too- click here When you try to open the file what error message do you get ? After you run scanpst do you get any report / log
17. Hi Chris and welcome to ExTS I have used Macrium before with no problems :( You suggest using "System Restore" This is an option and is well worth a try. If there were any registry changes during the cloning this will put the system back to the way it was prior to using Macrium. Any installations / updates after the selected date will be lost. This video explains if you need it:
18. That's good to hear joddle - I will mark this one as "solved"
19. Hi and welcome to ExTS I had a laptop and the keyboard drove me to distraction too. My solution - a wireless mini-mouse. click here I have a new laptop - but I still use the mini-mouse :) This will not make the mousepad inactive - so you may still get the problem if you inadvertently touch the pad. Take a look here - it may help too. click here You could try setting the delay under "Touchpad" to "Long Delay" or if it is on "Short" try "Medium" first.
20. Hi Nuley There should be a separate partition ( section of the hard-drive) that has the backup on it. Did you get this far? If so you need "...Initial Backup" NOT "User Backup" Does it go through the process or just hang ? ============ Do you have any means of connecting the problem hard-disk to another computer? A Caddy [ enclosure ] for instance or SATA to USB-cable ?
21. Hi George If it ain't broke - don't fix it comes to mind. Nothing to be gained by messing with the BIOS - but lots to be lost :)
22. We try :) Starbuck posts regularly on Win 10 updates.
23. 1 Beep is normal. Connect the drive back up to the working laptop. Take a look in "This PC" and make sure the drive is showing with a Drive letter [ could be E: ] Make a note of the Drive letter. Go to Command Prompt. To do this right click on the window bottom left of screen > Command Prompt ( Admin ) A box with a black background will open. Leave the problem drive connected. At the prompt type in ....... chkdsk X: /f ....... ENTER...........where X is the drive letter of your drive. There is a space before and after X: This will check your hard-drive for errors and attempt to fix them. No data will be lost. This may take sometime - depends on the size of the drive.
24. Hi Ray I missed this one :( Thanks for updating us. I will chalk this up as "Solved" :)
