  1. Depends if you set up a password or not. Most newer routers have the password set as default. The password can be found on a sticker either on the back or the base of the router.
  2. Vr5fx posted a link that would be fine :) Your m/board supports 800/533/400 Mhz FSB and up to 3.2 GB/s Clock Speed You will not notice too much difference between 2.8 and 3.2 GB/s If you want a slightly faster one than already linked to - click here ============ Correct. The system should boot from the intended OS not from the slave. Do you have the jumper on the back of the slave disk set as "Slave" ? [ assuming IDE and not SATA ] How is it connected from the motherboard? Is it on the same cable as the master drive ?
  3. It is not Win 8 that you get the URL from - it is from your browser. I E / FireFox / Chrome / Opera From the address bar at the top - as you have done. Or have I misunderstood the question ?
  4. Hi and welcome to ExTS It could well be the case. To disconnect others you could simply turn the router off. The answer to this is "yes" but you would need to access the router software. The IP Address is different for different routers. If you give me the make and model number of the router I can double check this for you and probably find an on-line manual. I would have thought that being on a ship - with all the steel between the router and cabins etc that the signal would not travel too far anyway. Strange that you should have lots of people gaining access. It could be that the router is having problems. Sometimes they don't die as such - they can alternate between internet access and no access. I had one like this recently - in fact I think my present one is going this way at the moment.
  5. I have moved Vr5fx's post from the other thread to here - and deleted the original post as requested :)
  6. Hi, You should be able to open the files in MS Word or Open Office too if necessary. Just change the file association or right click > Open With
  7. Hi David It is there with Win 8 and 8.1 too. Click on the star top right after opening I.E. Can you post a few screen shots after Classic Shell has been installed ? It would be interesting to see the changes.
  8. If the socket on the motherboard is 478 then you are limited to this. There are a variety of CPUs with this number of pins. If you let us know exactly which motherboard you have we may be able to provide you with some options. If you have put the hard drive from the original machine into the Vaio then it is unlikely to boot. The drivers etc are linked to the original motherboard and hardware so if the m/board is different it is unlikely that the machine will boot up. If it does manage to boot up you will certainly have problems. XP is not very forgiving in this respect. As long as the drive is OK then this should be possible if you use a USB enclosure for the drive and connect it to a working machine. This is an option. Drivers are always a problem after a re-install of XP. Sony should have these on their site. It is just a case of locating them. If you have a XP installation CD you can use this to do a repair install on the “foreign” Operating System - the installation CD MUST be the same as the OS though. In other words - XP Pro needs a XP Pro installation disk not Home to do the repair install. The repair install would correct the "foreign" problem.
  9. Hope you enjoy your new machine David :)
  10. Hi thanks for the feedback. I don't understand why this should work - but if it did .....great :)
  11. Looks like Nev has put his finger on it. The drive isn't spinning - so no data is being read. If this fails - this may sound a bit strange ...... wrap the drive tightly in cling-film and put it in a sealed plastic bag to keep the air out. Put it in a freezer overnight. Take it out of the wrappings and try it again. Freezing can sometimes get things moving again. If this fails ..... To take Nev's suggestion a bit further .... try slapping the drive down flat on a solid surface.
  12. Hi Have you managed to create an image of your drive ? Don't forget the Rescue Disk.
  13. It will not do any harm - and it will give you peace of mind :)
  14. Hi There is an option to add "Take Ownership" to the right click menu when you right click on a file. click here This is specifically for XP. There is a download that you can add to your system to do this automatically. Scroll down to where it says... If you get the installation correct you will see this when you right click a file http://cdn.howtogeek.com/wp-content/uploads/2007/06/image9.png Suggest that you create a restore point first - just in case. click here
  15. Hi Starbuck The reflectdl.exe file is in fact 2.19Mb after I downloaded it. This, as far as I understand, controls the downloading of the selected / correct option for the individual machine. click here Basically there are 2 downloads.
  16. Hi jontye Sorry to hear that. I have just downloaded the reflectdl.exe file and scanned it - nothing. I can only assume that the problems arise when this .exe file is run. Download MBAM from here - click here - update it - run it. ( The FREE version ) Let MBAM delete everything it finds. It will produce a log. Copy this please and post it here.
  17. You are welcome - glad to hear that you are happy :)
  18. Hi and welcome to ExTS You posted the same thing 3 times within 15 minutes ?? I have deleted the other two. Is this JUST related to email - or does it affect everything ? Are you using a laptop or desktop ? Does holding CTRL and scrolling with the wheel ( if using a mouse ) help ? CTRL and + / - will do the same an a laptop.
  19. Let's know how you get on Ray :)
  20. I asked this earlier - have you been able to check? Connect the drive up to a USB port. ( give it time to register ) Go to Disk Management click here The drive should show up here with a drive letter. Disk 0 is your main hard drive with Windows on it. If all looks OK try allocating a different drive letter. click here
  21. You can use this as you would a memory stick. =================== I will let Nev talk you through the imaging as the M-Reflect software I used was older than when Nev used it. The tutorial I wrote is here - click here You will need to produce a rescue CD - this is explained in the second tutorial - click here Things may be a little different with the newer software.
  22. Hi If the hard drive is compatible with the enclosure - put it in and connect up to the USB port. The drive should show up in Computer. Go to Disk Management again ( Start > diskmgmt.msc ) Right click on the external drive ..........it should give you the option to "format" here. The file system that you should select ( if prompted ) is NTFS. Before you format make sure that there is nothing on the drive that you want as you will not be able to retrieve it once the drive is formatted.
  23. That should do it :) Let us know how you get on.
  24. I found an image of your keyboard and it doesn't look as if this is an option. Not sure what you mean by this. Does this get you to the touch-pad settings? Click Start , enter mouse in the search field, and then select the Mouse control panel program from the search results. On the Device Settings tab of the Mouse Properties panel, select the Synaptic TouchPad device and click the Settingsbutton.
  25. I have one of these adapters - they do work :) If the pc has a USB port - you can plug in directly to this.
