"Service Pack installation cannot continue".... Ok I done everything to try to resolve the problem. Why isn't there a tool from the win 7 sp1 x64 to tell you EXACTLy what is missing so I can fix it? Discription of the missing items would be most helpful. This is one frustrating mess. SP1 doesn't like x64 Win7 Ultimate. Now cause I cannot install SP1, I cannot update to IE10 cause it requires that SP1 be installed.. Was working away happily one night when suddenly I couldn't select any values from drop down lists in IE9, lists I use daily at sites used allday. I had just looked at a humerous email and immediately thought virus, but after trying all my virus softwares, nothing, so rebuilt PC from an Acronis image backup, and all OK, then applied all available windows updates available since the date of the image, all working fine, then suddenly....problem back. So, uninstalled the just applied updates one by one, and finally, took out KB2670838 and all worked OJ again... THANKS MR MICROSOFT! The updater gives me the error code of C80001FE. I have tried everything in this thread: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2509997 Some of these removed the error code and resulted in the updater just stopping while checking for updates (going back to the screen saying "click here to check for updates") and the last thing I tried resulted in the return of the error code. Hi, Setup a new Gateway desktop PC at work purchased from TigerDirect (brand new). Restored files and programs from the old PC and dialed in the settings as I want them. Had Windows Update set to install & update automatically so I would not have to manage the updates as it is not my machine. About a month ago there were some Windows Updates that needed to be done, so I went ahead and performed them when I was doing my normal maintenance routine. Upon restart (after installing the updates and Win8 prompting me to reboot), the PC would come up with DRIVER_EXPOOL_CORRUPTED error and would not start. Had to do a System Restore to get the PC working again. A week or two later, Automatic Updates installed regular updates and forced a reboot, and had the same issue/error. Second time around did a "Refresh my PC", restored the files again and installed necessary programs. Keep in mind this is just restoring documents and installing programs like Peachtree Accounting, Office 2010, Tax Pro, etc. Performed restoration of these programs' documents according to each program's restoration procedures. Happened one more time while I was on vacation and I instructed my employer via telephone to do a System Restore. And finally it happened again this morning. Again, the Windows Updates being set to update and install automatically had forced a reboot sometime yesterday and the PC refused to boot up. I did an entire hard drive recovery this afternoon using the daily backups with True Image 2013 and finally got it working again. I immediately disabled Windows Updates and left it running. The weird thing is that even though I get the PC to work each and every time, it takes multiple reboots for the DRIVER error not to come up and to finally enter the OS. System boots fine in Safe Mode each time this happens but I cannot narrow down what is causing this issue. I am extremely frustrated, and I really do not know how to diagnose this. This is used as an office computer containing very sensitive files that are REQUIRED for the business to operate. I have ordered a fresh copy of Windows 8 Pro 64-Bit and a new hard drive but perhaps I can resolve this issue without having to completely start fresh. On another note, this is totally unacceptable for MS to issue updates that render a business PC useless with no way to resolve the problem. I would like to file an official complaint to Microsoft and to Gateway on this matter. Please help. View this thread

I'm using Windows 7. However, I installed Microsoft Photo Editor from the XP disk so an existing Access database OLE will work correctly. Now I'm getting XP Service Pack updates listed as important in Windows Update. Should I install these XP updates even though I only have Microsoft Photo Editor? My new Lenovo desktop came with McAfee "free Trial" which I let expire.. I Uninstalled McAfee then used the McAfee uninstall tool to wipe it out completely. I can see No other virus protection on this box. When I try to activate MD I get that old message box about Defender turned off and to check the Action Center for other virus programs. The AC show the all Red boxes to activate the windows defender software but when I click to activate I'm taken to the windows8os/windows/system32 library location where I find NO executable Defender software.. When I access windows defender from the CHARMS bar same result.. I've been to the MSServices Defender was manual and I changed it to automatic. The next time I went to MSservices it waS BACK mANUAL?? My only success was in activating the Windows firewall after the McAfee was gone. I'm going crazy with this issue, and I thought I could fix just about anything.. Help. View this thread
