Hello, i cant seem to do any windows updates, whenever i go to the page and click "check for updates" i get the message "windows update cannot currently check for updates because the service is not running. you may need to restart you computer" i have ran the Microsoft fix it for windows updates but it doesn't work. I have tried the recommended responses in the threads that have already responded to this issue including the cmd instructions, but the instructions were not recognized when I ran it as the administrator. I am still at a loss as to how to get any updates. Thanks for any ideas. View this thread

Can't download and install Windows Updates or install any downloaded Microsoft Fix it or Patches.Platform: Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit. Installed of Installation disk I made of my original Compaq hard drive. I made a clean install on a new hard disk (for more space) the old one worked great. After the Vista install I installed service pack 1 and 2 in that order. Those seemed to download and install okay. Then I attempted to get the updates, that when things went side ways.Equipment: Compaq Laptop C500 series. I originally got an error code 8024A00 every time I tried to update windows from the security center.I then tried to look online for what was wrong and tried a number of service fixes and tried to download and install windows fix it from the page with a fix that was to help me fix the problem. That didn't work. I finally did get the fix it program to download but it would not install. I tried to d/l a stand alone install program for MS that failed. In the mean time every time I tried to install on of these MS fixes suggested and support bulletinsI was getting an error code 0xc8000222.I have been able to d/l all sort of programs and install them from everybody outside of MS with the exception of the service packs I haven't been able to install anything else for MS.I can't think of anything else that might be of help to any of you that would venture to help me out. my security essentials says potentially unprotected because i haven't run a scan in awhile. It was just scanned today. When I restarted the computer it went away and the green check mark came back. Now the alert is back again. What do you think is wrong? I ran the safety scanner in safe mode and have no viruses. View this thread

For several months one this one update won't rule. I shows failure. The computer seems fine otherwise. I have noticed that it has not upgraded to service pack 1 and I suspect this update may be hanging it up. I ran the microsoft fixit program and looked for the suggested listing to remove under componants in the registry, but none of the items recommended for removal were in the registry. I know there are other threads on this but they're all a bit confusing so I've tried to simplify my questions. I have 248 updates in the "Installed Updates" list but only the 35 most recent ones in "Update History". Does it Matter? Check for Updates says there are none. Am I complete and up to date? March 4th, Windows Update installed updates when I logged off for the night. The next morning, my printer would no longer work. I was getting the message, 'printer is not communicating with printer,' but the troubleshooter found nothing wrong, and all my connections were fine. I found a suggestion in a google search to uninstall the latest updates and try the printer again, so I did, and that fixed the problem. I reset updates to keep them from installing automatically, but rather, to let me see what is available and let me install manually, but it didn't work. It still tries to update automatically every time I shut down my computer. I don't want to uninstall update, because I want all the necessary updates, but how do I get it to work properly? My computer is only a little over a year old, so I don't understand why I am already having this problem. Thank you! View this thread

In windows security my windows update is turned off and when I go to Microsoft Updates in Control panel it shows it being on. I am unable to receive updates. Windows Fix - it says: Default Windows update locations have changed and must be repaired. To repair change windows update locations to window default settings. How do I perform that? In the morning, I start the computer and a message says that windows could not start and give me the option to start the windows normaly. I do that and the system is active for same time. Than the system shut off and restarts automatically. I enter the password and the computer seems to be O.K. for some time. It happened also few minutes ago. I am running win7 home premium. This update installs repeatedly - it says successfully, after a reboot - but then it comes up again for install.I tried the .net framework profile repair suggested herehttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/976982"but that did not help. It seemed a little better - after rebooting, it no longer showed the "apply updates and shutdown" option in the start menu - but it still wanted to re-apply. I tried this procedure twice, rebooting each time.
