Problem started from eternal attempt to upgrade KB2538242 and KB256506. One day they was blocked from attempt to fix until I found them hidden in important updates again.First one was solved by downloading some Vcredist.msi 2005 (required for uninstall) and reinstalling with proper from Microsoft site. However I can't nor uninstall nor update vc 2010 redist: I have no idea by what it was installed, I clearing trash in temp folder sometime, and of course I deleted folders like "j:e66a8f5043542b20d5ca6ddc935d73".During install vcredist was asking for path to vc_red.msi to probably remove previous version.Was trying to find vc_red.msi for any version 2008-2010 but there is only exe available.Been trying to uninstall through "Revo uninstall", unfortunately this program only removed registry entries. Now vcredist says "newest already found".Is there solution to cleanup vc redistributable mess? Also was trying to remove all redistributables but same problems with looking for proper vc_red.msi. My Windows Defender keeps sutting down and going Red and I have to turm it on manually. It also won't complete a scan without sutting down. Any ideas? View this thread

After the last major update pushed out by Microsoft I have noticed that both Internet Explorer and Windows email client (Windows Live Mail) are not working properly. They do not open up windows on the desktop, however they do show up in Task Managers processes. Hi I am running Window 7 home premium x64 For some time now I have not been able to download and install: Cumulative Security Update for Internet Explorer 9 for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2792100) Download size: 27.1 MB It always fails but all other updates seem to be OK includin Bit defender updates. I keep getting error code 80070017 I have looked for help specific to this problem but nothing seems to fit. One Microsoft website refers to Xp, Vista, 2000 etc for this error code but not Windows 7. why is action centre still checking for updates? It has been more than 24 hours and it is still checking. Also how do I turn Windows Defender on? I cannot find any setting that would allow me to do so. I have tried the box where I can opt to turn Window Features on or off but all it says is wait...and I have been waiting for a day now. Notebook = HP Pavilion g6-2219sa Notebook PC OS = Windows 8 Basically Windows Update keeps freezing when it doesn't even loadI need to update my laptop (bought it in January, OS = Windows 8, HP Pavilion G6), well I'm sure I need to. However, when I go on Control Panel etc or anywhere else and click on the hyperlink "windows update" it just freezes windows explorer, and the mouse pointer just has the blue loading ring next to it whenever the mouse is hovered over the windows explore window. - I then have to open Task Manager, end "Windows Explorer", log out and then log back in again. are there any solutions to this? I've tried troubleshooting Windows Update, it tells me to try troubleshooting as an administrator, I do that and it says still no problems found. Any solutions??In addition to this, I need to update Windows Defender, however everytime I try and do this it just says "connection failed", which I don't understand why as my internet connection is perfectly fine. any solutions? Can this problem be related to the Windows Update problem?Another problem I am facing is with Windows Store - when I click on it sometimes it just doesn't load, the loading icon (the dots going around in a circle) just stay there forever so I have to close it. When it does open sometimes, if I try at install an app, it says installing, but never installs. And when I want to see the apps I already have installed by clicking on "your apps", that page never loads. Could this be anything to do with a firewall or whatnot? IE Version: 9.0.8112.16421 Windows: Vista 32-bit SP2 Initially recieved the KB2799494 update 2/14/13, It has been repeating ever since. I had AVG Antivirus (removed), Firefox (Removed), McAfee preload (removed), Pc antivirus preload (removed). I have been searching threads and had tried installing from both .msu and *.exe manually, in safe mode as well. Tried 2 different Hot Fixes, Tried the 'FixIT' both general and subsequently Aggressive. What I get is about 5 minutes and then it pops back up. It never lists as an intalled update but then it never fails to install as per Windows Update. Fixit always finds and fixes a problem but its back again. Is there any other ideas for this? Hello Having installed service pack 1 successfully, (using windows vista home premium) I am constantly being asked on the updates that sp1 needs to be installed. When I attempted to scan my computer with Windows Defender, it stopped and it prompted me with this message " Windows Defender Couldn't Scan Your PC." I followed the two suggestions ( To restart the service manually and to restart my computer ) from the dialogue box that appeared but neither of them worked. I installed an update to Windows Defender today, March 9, 2013, and every since, I cannot get Windows Defender to scan. It starts and runs for some files and then stops changing the Screen to Red and indicating that Windows Defender must be re-started. Im at my wits end, I have over 60 processes running on my pc and all i want the pc for is mainly , World of WArcraft. It is slowing my performance in the game... Having tremendous lag .. I would turn some of the processes off but not sure which ones to turn off even when i hide all microsoft processes, and im sure some of those microsoft programs are slowing my game down and the pc too.
