Have put a fresh copy from dell of xp home edition on to a new hard drive. When trying to update get the Error number: 0x80244019. View this thread

I recently had a hard drive crash and replaced it with a Seagate 1Tb Hard Disk running Windows 7 64bit. I have tried the intel rapid storage driver fix with no success. I am at a loss of what to do here. I am posting the windowsupdate log file along with this post. Looking for help on this issue on Vista Home edition 32 bit. I realize this error code is for XP, but it comes up when I try to uninstall Windows Security Essentials security software. I tried to install a recent update, and it gave me the code of 8004ff80 and would not allow me to install it, and it is causing microsoft update to not look for newer updates, apparently since the one it is recommending I install is causing this issue. All of this seems to be related because the update is for Security Essentials. Tried to contact Microsoft, but they want $99.00 to fix. Looks like to me that this is a scam from Microsoft to create revenue at the community's expense. View this thread

I recently tried to download microsoft security essentials but it said it was corrupted and it was downloading funny. so i cancelled the installation and it has said "cancelling the installation" for the last 5 days now and i cant get rid of it. because of this i cannot try downloading security essentials again! how do i get this to go away?! I got a call this morning from a man with East Indian accent leading me to believe he was calling from Microsoft Windows and that a major hack was happening. I didn't trust it at first and he said he would give me the # from my computer. He had me go into something (black screen) after reading off a very long number, and I confirmed that it was the same number as on my computer. He took me to a place that showed perhaps hundreds of error messages and "information" and said that was these hackers attempting to get the information from my computer. He then had me to go "team..."something and give him the account number and password so he could gain control of my computer. He then went back to that black screen area and showed again all the hundreds of error and information messages. Long story short -- he then checked to see if my software warranty had expired -- of course it had -- and then led me to the Gunina Sales & Support where I finally got a clue that the call wasn't from Microsoft. I felt totally ripped off and am now worried that he may have opened the opportunity to access my private information -- or at the very least it was a very sneaky way to try to get me to buy their product (which he was was the only software security system for Microsoft). I told him I'd check it out on my own. Have you heard of this before? I've never been "taken" like this -- I'm normally very suspicious but somehow he got me past that (also it was made more difficult to get clear answers because of his accent). When I hung up I shut down my computer and unplugged the modem for a period of time. I would love to hear your thoughts. View this thread

I did trouble shooting and was told to reinstall some drivers I was having problems with. Now I can't reinstall cause I can't even find them anywhere or the info to reinstall. They had Code 10 on them. Then I downloaded a new driver for graphics cause I am having trouble when playing games and it won't recognize it. (code 52) It would help if there was a list somewhere that we could find out just what these !!!!!!! codes mean. View this thread

Belarc is telling me I have Critical and Important windows updates, all starting with the letter "Q". I go to windows updates but it doesn't allow me to update. Actually, I got my Dell inspiron 15(model-3521) laptop where windows 8 is pre-loaded. But, when I first started it, it asked for the activation and I didnt have either of the activation key or the windows 8 OS DVD with me(in case of win 7 laptops, the product key is written on the bottom of the laptop, but there is no such thing in my win 8 laptop). There is only a product ID written on the control panel. now, i'm skeptical about my OS status whether it is genuine or it is fake! please help. View this thread
