Severity Rating: Critical Revision Note: V1.0 (March 12, 2013): Bulletin published. Summary: This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Office. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if a user opens a specially crafted Visio file. An attacker who successfully exploited the vulnerability could gain the same user rights as the current user. Users whose accounts are configured to have fewer user rights on the system could be less impacted than users who operate with administrative user rights. View this security bulletin

Severity Rating: Critical Revision Note: V1.0 (March 12, 2013): Bulletin published. Summary: This security update resolves a privately reported vulnerability in Microsoft Silverlight. The vulnerability could allow remote code execution if an attacker hosts a website that contains a specially crafted Silverlight application that could exploit this vulnerability and then convinces a user to view the website. The attacker could also take advantage of compromised websites and websites that accept or host user-provided content or advertisements. Such websites could contain specially crafted content that could exploit this vulnerability. In all cases, however, an attacker would have no way to force users to visit a website. Instead, an attacker would have to convince users to visit a website, typically by getting them to click a link in an email message or in an Instant Messenger message that takes them to the attacker's website. It could also be possible to display specially crafted web content by using banner advertisements or by using other methods to deliver web content to affected systems. View this security bulletin

My computer does an occasional auto update when I shut it down for the night. However, in the morning, I find that it is still trying to download and is just locked, so I have to hold down the off button until the computer turns off. This has been going on for the last 6 months, and I find there are a growing number of "files" appearing on my drive that I can't seem to get rid of. Can anyone help me with this? View this thread

I'd like Windows 8 to automatically restart immediately after installing Windows Update. I don't want it to wait for 72 hours. I played around with Group Policy setting in Local Computer Policy > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Windows Components > Windows Update, but couldn't find a way. Does anyone know? View this thread

Every time I turn on my computer, running Windows 7 Home Premium edition, it says there are two critical updates to be downloaded. When I download them, it's the same two updates every time. I must have 15 to 18 entries in the update log that are the same, for each of the two updates? View this thread

For a while now, I''ve had 5 updates that refuse to install. They try to install upon shutdown. Update 1 never fully installs and I tend to leave the computer to shutdown by itself, which it eventually does. I run AVG (free version) on my computer and Malwarebytes (free version). No viruses/malware have been detected except a file with a broken signature which was issued by Dell which AVG always flags up and it has done for about 2 years. I have some corrupt files on one section of the computer. My computer is a Dell Inspirion 545 with Vista Home Premium and a 32 bit operating system. The computer is 2 and half years old. The updates are:Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2487367)Security Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 x86 (KB2656351)Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2468871)Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003, Windows Vista, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 x86 (KB2533523)Update for Microsoft .NET Framework 4 on XP, Server 2003, Vista, Windows 7, Server 2008 x86 (KB2600217)They don't seem to be causing much problems, although they are supposed to be important updates, so I would like them to fully install. Please be aware that I'm not very technical with computers, so please use simple language if possible. Thanks very much View this thread

I paid for MSE at the insistence of the phone person, and was told to get rid of AVG...Now my computer won't open the internet, and I can't run a scan on my computer by MSE? Am I mistaken to think that MSE has a firewall and scans for viruses, malware and other insideous computer problems. View this thread

It is my sincere hope that I am posting this in the correct forum. Before I ask my technical question, let me ask two things. 1. Why is there no place/way to find out whether Microsoft is working on a problem with one of their products? 2. Given question 1, why is the website so ridiculously difficult to navigate to find the help on my own? I spent over an hour just trying to find out how to ask about Defender problems. It reminds me of getting lost in the vortex of voicemail_hell. Sorry, to rant, but this company has the resources to make this more customer friendly and it is beyond me why they do not. Starting on Saturday after a Windows update was installed, Windows Defender scans began failing, complaining that the service was not running. Problem is the service was running. I contacted Microsoft support via chat and tech said they were "aware" of it, "researching the problem" and "working on it". But when the chat began and I first asked whether they were aware, my question was ignored and I was asked a bunch of questions about my machine and whether I had made any changes. I just want to know that Microsoft is aware this is happening and is working on it. It had been working fine before the update and unfortunately it was one of the kind of updates that you cannot uninstall. If anyone is aware of a fix for this, or even if someone at Microsoft is actually working on it, please let me know. Thanks, "Very Frustrated" View this thread

I'm trying to install MS Essentials on a Windows7 PC. I had a failed uninstal; with basically the same message. It looks for "epp.msi" in a path where it isn't. I've tried to point it to a directory where "epp.msi" is but it doesn't like that. So I couldn't fully complete the uninstall and it's blocking me from doing a re-install for the same reason. <b>Meanwhile I don't have a working installation or any security?</b> While from my vantage I see what I tried to accomplish as a Delete/Re-install I notice when I run "mseinstall.exe" it calls it an upgrade. Running a Windows 7 Ultimate on a computer with an i7 2600K processor, 16 GB of DRAM, one 128 GB SSD as the "C" drive (20GB of space on it), a second 128 GB SSD as the scratch drive for PS, and 2 x 1TB drives for images (yes I am a professional photographer), and a 1GB graphics card. For more than a year SP1 has tried to upload, but fails every time with code 8024200D. The upload appears at first to function, gets about 2/3 done and then stops with the error code.I have been on the MS website, run everything that they suggest, upload checker, Malware checker, etc. ,etc., ad nauseum, and still cannot get it to load. Every other update (including the 99 that happened the first day when I built the computer), have been successful, it is just SP1.Is there any solution to this problem? View this thread

We started to deploy W8 on our Institution, however we can't install .Net Framework 3.5. We've succesfully installed Framework 3.5 on W8 Professional, but not on W8 Enterprise. We've tried all troubleshoot methods in "Error codes when you try to install the .NET Framework 3.5 in Windows 8 or in Windows Server 2012 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2734782", and the method in here "Installing the .NET Framework 3.5 on Windows 8 http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/hh506443.aspx" with no luck.
