I have tried the clean restart of windows, safe mode, made sure my antivirus was off, but it will not let this update install. I have Windows Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista Operating System. The update is actually a Cumulative Security Update for ActiveX Killbits KB250872. I would appreciate any help. I recently got a new computer with a Samsung 840 Pro SSD, i5 3570k processor, ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Mobo, Corsair Vengeance 1600 DDR3 RAM; When I first started windows 7 it ran fast and started quickly. Now after installing all the updates for the first time on this computer, it takes several minutes. The last time I started up, I timed it at 9 minutes. After it starts up, everything else on the SSD starts up instantly, without a problem. So no problems with the SSD. This leads me to thinking it had something to do with the updates for windows 7 I just installed. This all took place in one day, yesterday 3/2/2013. Updates have stopped working on my windows 8 pc. When I check for new updates via control panel/windows update it says that updates are available but then windows gets stuck on 'downloading updates'.There is no activity on my router so windows isn't actually downloading anything.What gives? I have installed the above updates on my computer but Windows Update keeps notifying me that these updates are still available for download. I now have these updates installed several times on my computer and Windows Update is still advising me they are available for download. Can you help. View this thread

After doing a repair install of my Windows XP PRO /SP3, I tried to upgrade to Windows Media Player 11. It keeps failing and says that I need to restart my computer. This also happened with Internet Explorer 8. The message I get was "Windows Internet Explorer cannot install because another program or update is waiting to restart your computer. Restart your computer and run this setup again." I have repeatedly restarted my computer.MS Updates don't download and install, even after Fix It and after downloadin a new Windows Update Agent 3.0 (which did download AND install). Other programs can install without issue, just the ones from Microsoft.I have searched the registry for file rename keys and also seached for anything that might be asking for the system to restart. I find nothing. Tried a lot of ideas from seaching on how to update, including I have deleted the Update cache and registered all the necessary update dll s including the wups2.dll and to no success.Would really like to use IE 8 (again) and use Media Player 11 so that I can use my Amazon UnBox to view a paid for downloaded TV show.VernIdeas???? Hi, I've got Windows Vista on my PC, I recently downloaded and installed updates. After when they install my PC ask me to restarts, when I do that's all I get up to Step 2 of 3. My PC restarts is self, the BIOS boots but Windows doesn't that's all I see is is red lines in the top left corner of my screen. What's wrong with my PC can you help me please. While browsing on MSN - 2 msgs pop up: one Microsoft Security Essential Alert saying Potential Threat Details (viruses listed) & another from Windows Internet Explorer saying Microsoft antivirus has found critical process activity & clean computer immediately to prevent systems breakage. Are these true messages from Microsoft?? i've never seen them pop up before... I went to the Security Essentials Center and ran a (short) scan, which reported finding nothing. Do I still need to click on the messages I received? There is a "clean computer" botton on the msg from Microsoft Secuity. View this thread

Windows 8 has been nothing but trouble since I got my computer for Christmas. It tells me I need to install the "windows update" but won't even let me change the settings for updates. We have Windows 8 installed on our laptop. We received a message HIGH Alert security Essential Alert appeared wanting us to allow them access. security-scanner.exe(238 kb) rbzurqjm.it.cx. I thought that Security Essential does not work in Windows 8 ...Defender was to work. What should we do regarding potential Trojan and viral infection. Windows Update on Windows 8 never completes downloading with any of the updates, even for small updates. I've tried 1. changing startup options and disabling all non microsoft services. 2. Uninstalling securty software (norton) 2. restoring to an earlier point 3. Logging on as another user. 4. Doing the Windows Update fixer from trouble shooter. What else can I try? View this thread
