I am having a lot of trouble getting the Apps to work on my Start page, when I disable AVG I can get access to some of them. When I downloaded Windows 8 Pro (paid for version) it had Norton installed and I uninstalled it to put AVG on. View this thread

When I try to start Word, the computer works very hard for a long time then I get the yellow startup window which says it is starting but it never does. The machine is working so hard that I can't run anything else while this is happening. View this thread

I keep getting this message as it wants to do an update and cannot. I cannot fix it. Have had it fot 12 months. I did have Office 2010 on my computer went back to 2007 and this is an update for 2010. Running Windows 8 for a few days, no issues. " it " wanted to install an update, now right after boot it crashes and says windows must re-start. Unable to do anything as the system just keeps re-booting now. ??? KB2729450 loads but the Update Icon is still in the System Tray, etc. XP Home Edition, SP3. A Belarc Advisor scan shows the file (KB 2729450) unprotected with this message: (An Unlocked Lock) "Marks a security hotFix that fails verification (a security vulnerability)" I have uninstalled KB 2729450 and, upon shut down I click on "Do not install update". After applying patches KB2769034, KB2761226, KB2737084 and KB2727528 on 15/11/2012, my Intel 82578DC network adapter driver failed on windows start up. I have to re-install the driver every time the computer started. I have installed the latest network adapter driver from Intel website and it does not help. View this thread

is microsoft security essentials and windows defender enough for my deskstop computer or shall i install norton internet security? i mainly use my pc for loads of games from steam and windows live pc games and the odd banking (ie9 private browsing). i use ccleaner to cleanup after (not the regisrty, nothing ticked) and just basically going around yahoo, yahoo answers, microsft answers basic reading. everything else is done on my laptop. thank you View this thread

Was one of several updates that showed up today, it failed to install. Defined as Optional, I tried it anyway since it had to do with Security Essentials, I believe programs like that should be kept up to date and figured it might fix the problem I was having sometimes with that program. I am running Security Essentials. It is detecting Trojan:Win32/Puzlice.A and putting in Quarantine. But it keeps coming back - I think when I use Internjet Explorer and it is indicated by reduced speed. View this thread

After my computer crashed (able to move the mouse, but not change windows or open task manager), I restarted it and checked my security settings, only to find that Windows Defender had turned itself off. On opening Windows Defender, I get the error code 0x8050800d with the message "Some history items could not be displayed. Please wait a few minutes and try again. If that doesn't work, clear the history and try again". I have waited quite some time, tried restarting the computer, and searched the help files (no article on the problem was present), and I can't see a way to clear the history from the Windows Defender menus. When I try to turn the real-time protection on, I get the message "Windows Defender couldn't turn on real-time protection. This operation returned because the timeout period expired" and the error code 0x800705b4. According to the bottom of the Windows Defender window, it did a scan about the time that my computer crashed. I tried what was suggested in the Windows 7 forums (I know that Windows Defender is very different between Windows 7 and 8), starting the Services program, and it says that Windows Defender Service is running, and has an automatic trigger start. I tried restarting the program from there, but to no avail. I do not have any other virus scanners or security software installed, and have only installed windows just over a week ago. Hello. I have essensials, but last weekend I suddenly got a message, filling my screen, and blocking my computer use totally, saying it was from the Metroplitan Police, and that I should pay £100 to release the block!! I did not, and did a restore, and all was well, until yesterday, when it happened again. So now I'm concerned it will return. Why didnt essentials stop this getting to my computer, and what can I do to further protect my computer against this type of thing? I've heard one can set up a type of "watch" program, which "ticks" good websites, and warns of a dodgy one, before one opens it. Any help there too please. Lastly, on the essentials web page, I clicked on "contact" (as I wished to send and email to Microsoft, but it went to a page with lots of weird info on, and said basically, unavailable!
