When I try to UPDATE the program & definitions, it then displays: " Virus and spyware definitions: Created 30 days ago " How can I UPDATE in REALTIME ?...OR, is it, and it just DOESN'T SHOW that it is...As I just TODAY installed it.. SYS INFO: WinXP (32bit) w/ SP3...IE8...I have UN-installed ALL PREVIUOSLY installed anti-virus/anti-malware programs ( AS WELL as ANY related FOLDERS, NOT UN-installed, and/or deleted, by the "UN-install process), thereafter...THEN, finally, RE-started computer, to finalize UN-install of same, yet, the results STILL show a "30 day" update history... I have the Microsoft Security Essentials as my security on my computer. I noticed this morning that the sheild at the bottom of the page stayed red, and I got a message the the Virus Protection was turned off. I manually turned it on but it does not say it is on and the shield is still red. I am scared to do anything till it comes up green. I tried the security essential fix system but it did not find anything wrong. View this thread

Four days ago my daughter was doing her homework and downloaded a picture. Immediatly MSE detected PWS:Win32/zbot, quarantined it and told me to re-start my computer in order to apply the actions. However every time I re-started the computer the virus reappeared so I decided to do a system restore and re set the computer to a previous date. After doing this the virus is not showing, although mse history is showing that it was quarantined several times. I have run the microsoft security scanner and the virus is not showing, but has it really gone? I have changed all my passwords to my online accounts using another computer. While using computer, a window opened to notify me of infections (over 30). Could not remove unless I subscribed to a certain software, this I finally did. Credit card was billed $69.95 USD to "nefedovmal.com HITCHIN GBR". Received a license key # but no anti virus files linked to "nefedovmal" show up in my computer. My computer auto installed updates on 11/16/12. And then the problem started. If I dont click a mouse button and let the computer sit for more than 20 minutes (like when watching video) the grafx card shuts down. If I click the mouse it comes back on. I check that the screen saver was off and power setting set to never and downloaded latest driver for the grafx card. But the problem would not go away. I restored to a restore point just before the updates on 11/16/12 and the problem is gone. But now windows will not let me shut down without installing the updates. I dont know what to do now? System is : asus core2 quad with 8gig ram running win7 and gforce gt 220 -1gig grafx card. View this thread

My computer has been trying to install the same 10 updates since last Wednesday 11/14. When I turn off the computer, they install. When I turn it back on it says it is applying the 18,852 update operations. Next it starts windows and says its preparing to configure.... do not turn off. When it gets to 100%, it says, Fairure configuring windows updates reverting changes. It shuts down, says it's preparing to configure, another failure and revert message. It shuts down again, and finally allows me to log on to the computer. This takes about 25 minutes. Using the FIX IT troubleshooter, it said it was fixed twice, and now it says the trouble shooting cannot continue because errors occurred. Help, please. View this thread

Hello, I'm having problems installing .NET Framework 3.5 on a Windows 8 computer. I've tried to use the "Turn Windows features on and off" method. Computer is not a member of a domain and not connected to WSUS server. I've tried to use the CMD method dism method, using 3 different sources of the Windows 8 installation files (2 different DVDs, 1 USB). This particular update will not install, been to site and tried manually instead of automatic and still wont download. Now it asked me to download a tool for auto update and the page keeps recurring three times and the page wont load at the "checking your computer for latest updates" page. now what? any suggestions? Hello, I have recently purchased a HP Pavillion DM1 Laptop, and tried to update after registering windows, there were a number of updates to be installed. It automatically restarted and reached 12% of the updates completed, I managed to get it to stop and restart windows, used control panel and tried to update one at a time. It got about halfway through and crashed again and got stuck at about 13% complete. I have eventually got back in and are having to do a system restore, which is ongoing at the moment. how can i put on all the updates. the computer is a netbook and does not have a CD/DVD drive and there was no program disc supplied. I have scheduled MSE to run a full scan 1/week on Monday at 2:00am. Why is MSE not performing this scan? My pc at work is always turned on through the week but I do turn off the monitorat the end of each day. Is this due to the pc being in the sleep mode? View this thread

my computers show signs of a virus.i had mcafee,which i am trying to reinstall.when i get it downloaded -a warning states it is not secure.the mse program will not uninstall from my control panel.i have tried many times.also this was a problem on my lad top.finally i did get it uninstalled,but after many hours of searching for hidden fragment in all places .finally when the question popped up asking which programs did i want uninstalled like the messenger .there were about 4-5 i finally clicked on and it was uninstalled.sure hope i did not mess up my e-mail and ect by clicking what i thought were useful programs.the programs have not appered this time on my desk top.can you help me ?i am just about to throw my hands up please reply soon as possible. thanks ----jane View this thread
