When I try to install Windows updates I get error code 800B0100. I tried to install KB947821, the fix on the Windows download page and it says it is installing but it never does. My virus protection is Windows Security Essentials and I can't figure out how to turn it off when I tried that before downloading. Any suggestions? View this thread

Eventhough windows is genuine , windows word is not working, not responding message at top come. I would like to replace Windows Defender. Even with automatic updates, Defender still requires downloads when you shut down the pc. Sometimes these downloads "hang" causing a crash when I manually shut down the pc--the machine will run forever if I don't shut it down. So I'm wondering, does Security Essentials present downloads like Defender, or not? If not, then maybe I would be better off with SE. Thanks. View this thread

I have gotten the BSOD several times, apparently not related to anything I am doing. The reason for the problem is shown as "Kaspersky Anti-Virus has stopped working." I never installed Kaspersky Anti-Virus, but I ran Kaspersky's all product removal tool anyway. I am using Microsoft Security Essentials and it is up to date. My computer still crashes every few days. I have seen that a few other people with this problem, but I have not seen any effective solutions. Is this a virus? How can I solve this problem. View this thread

Hello, I am trying to create the CD for off line windows defender. At the download stage, after about 5 minutes, I get the message: "There was a problem downloaded the required Windows Defender Offline Files". I clicked the "get more help" link which is on that error page, and went through the "download failed" steps, including having MS Fixit reconfigure IE. Still failing. My internet connection is fine for all other downloads. Any suggestion greatly appreciated. Jack View this thread

Hello, I've always wondered about this and I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Almost every day, Microsoft Security Essentials downloads a definition around 4 MBs in size. Are those files stacking up somewhere in my computer or are they some kind of single file that overwrites itself? Also, where in my computer is the program storing this information? I have a full scan set for weekly, and have just run a quick scan. MSE reports that no threats were found but also says that my computer is potentially unprotected and that it has detected a potential threat. I can not find what it is. Anyone with any thoughts? Thanks Florence17 View this thread

Small point. I like WU set to notify only and so allow me to see what updates are available and choose whether or not to install them. Security essentials (which I know is different and separate program) always updates regardless of WU settings. If we want to use Defender it seems we are being forced to leave WU on automatic to ensure it updates correctly. I just checked in WU and there were was a Defender definition waiting but no notification ever appeared to tell me. ( I also installed updates yesterday and received the rather bizarre message that my PC would restart in 2 days time unless I manually did the job myself) View this thread

I have two computers, both running Vista home 64bit, recently installed Security Essentials on both. On both machines, Canon cameras worked fine before MSE was installed and stopped working after the install. Symptoms identical - in Device Manager, device status for the camera shows "Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)." Searching online I saw many references to deleting "UpperFilters" entry in registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControlClass{EEC5AD98-8080-425F-922A-DABF3DE3F69A}, but there is no such entry for that key in either machine so I have not touched the registry. I am getting a message "Files required to use windows update are no longer regestered or installed on computer, and when it trys to install and register it goes back to the beginning. I also get a error message when I start up my computer RPS.exe unable to locate componate AntiFR.dll was not found. I think I may have deleted MC Shield from my taskmanager, my computer is running very slow and my internet security suite from verizon wont activate. so I dont think I have any security on my computer at all.Please help is there a program that can scan and fix my issues? My computer, Windows Vista Home Basic have failed to install SP2 persistently and I've tried to restart the three services: background intelligence, windows update, cryptographic services/ renaming catroot2 and softwaredistribution and rebooted the computer. When installed during safe mode, it failed. When installed through the standalone package, it failed; Cannot find object or property code error 0x80090024 CRYPT_E_NOT_FOUND. When installed through windows update, same error code. System File Checker report that the system have no violations and despite all of this sp2 remain unresolved. System Readiness Tool installed one update but barely helped me to install sp2. Can anyone figure this out? View this thread
