GW laptop; Win7 Home Prem, 64 bit. Been running MSE a long time with no issues (except it occasionally misses something coming in, but they all do). Last week it turned orange, which it's done in the past: 'you haven't run MSE in a long time and your system is potentially unprotected'. I updated the definitions and ran a full on C drive where all the programs are. Nope, still orange, and it did complete. Next day I updated again and ran a complete on D and E which are just storage partitions. Still orange. Never done this before. I used to be able to turn it back green by just running a complete on one major directory, like Windows. Any ideas? Hello, Even though a periodic "Full Scan" is essential, since it takes a significant amount of time, many a times a scheduled scan is aborted midway, leaving the system a bit vulnerable... 1. To optimize the scan time, I suggest that the before starting a scan, the application indicate the size of standard temporary files and give an option to delete the same. I believe it will help to integrate this check into the application. 2. Is it an incremental scanner? I mean, if a set of scanned files/ folders is not modified later on, does it skip them in the next run or maybe check them only for the updated items in the database? Best Regards, Suresh Upadhya. i installed microsoft security essentials on my pc for home use and i uninstalled the anti-virus software that i wanted to remove. now only microsoft security essentials is working on my pc . but i am worried if windows defender will interrupt with the fuctioning of microsoft security essentials ? thanks, View this thread

I chose "Defender" in lieu of "M.S.E." when it simply vanished. "Defender" seems useless but a Microsoft Tech. told me "Defender" is just as usefull & both can't work in tandem. I don't agree & want "M.S.E." back but it won't install & I get the same "8004ff83" error code like the others. Any ideas? Kurt Nelsen View this thread

I'm just a little curious to see how many files are scanned in "Quick Scan" mode. When I first scan it, it will scan about seventy thousand files but a minute later when I re-scan, it will only scan about thirteen thousand. Is this normal? View this thread

After a window update MSE cannot be found. I cannot reinstall I get a error 0x8004FF83. so I want to remove it completly to reinstall. Running XP Home Addition. 32 bit. View this thread

All other virus/malware programs are turned off so as to not inhibit the process. However, BOTH times it has crashed my puter and I can only get back on via "Safe Mode" and then have had to restore it to factory settings to get my puter back up and running. I would love to have this as it is highly recommended, but this is ridiculous! I'm not a rookie in computers, but I'm not a pro either. It shouldn't be this hard to do, and I'm assuming that it shouldn't crash my computer when I try and install it. What am I missing here? How do I get this to work without completely screwing up my computer? The computer is only about a year and half old and now after this second attempt it is running INCREDIBLY slow, and we have to keep turning it off and on to even gain access. Also, one of the questions at the bottom of this screen asks if it is Beta or not .. I have chosen "not", but really I have no clue. :( View this thread

Some laptops I work with recently stopped updating. When I try to, I get "Windows update can not currently check for updates, because the service is not currently running , try restarting your computer". I am trying to figure out why this would happen. The only recent changes done to them were the 18 or so updates from a week or so ago and nothing else. So what I am basically asking is, what would be causes for this to happen? Both these updates have been downloaded automatically many times, and also tried updating by going to Windows Update, but they have repeatedly failed to install. What else can I add? View this thread

Hi, I had not updated windows for a while, and I thought it would be a good idea to update it. I had disabled checking for updates automatically so I go to check for an update manually and I get error code 80244022, I seemed to have fixed that, but now when I go to Check for an Update I get error code 8024402F, I have tried all the options that are applicable to me in any of the help articles connected to this error code but to no avail, also when I tried to run the FixIt it sais the troubleshooter is temporarily unavailable and it had an issue downloading one or more components and cannot run the troubleshooter, so I find the updated FixIt for Windows Update and it says the same thing. When I first got the computer I could update fine but after doing a Clean Install of Windows near the start of this year I have not been able to update which is weird.
