Windows 7 Home Premium. These updates continually recycle. Have tried everything I can find to fix: 1. Used "Fix It' standard and aggressive versions. 2. Have stopped and restarted Windows Update services and rebooted then installed again. 3. Have tried ALL suggestions under Article 906602. 4. I never get an error code. 5. The updates appear on the "Installed Updates", Status successful. If I double click on them, I am asked if I want in UNINSTALL. Does this mean they really are installed?? 6. The updates appear on the "Update History", Status Succeeded. If I double click on them, I am asked if I want in UNINSTALL. Does this mean they really are installed?? 7. Should I just "Hide" the updates?? View this thread

My pc is running on vista home premium sp2 32-bit. Until recently everything was running fine, but around 12 of the automatic updates wouldn't install without error. Itunes and Safari have also not been able to update. The error reads 'could not access windows installer', I have tried msiexec but still no joy, its as if windows installer has been deleted from the pc and when i try to download from the microsoft website it jus says 'this update is not for you system'. Help please? View this thread

I have two dell pc's in a LAN with a verizon router and the network is wireless. Both PC's run the XP OS. Both machines are set to auto dnload and install windows updates from the Update website. Both PC's are protected by Norton 360. The auto dnload and instals worked just perfectly for a long time. Until the night of May 16 in fact. Both PC's install in the middle of the night. Since May 16 however the dnloads and installations have failed. I ran the "fix it utility" and this did not repair the problem. It is the exact same error code message for every failure: Installation Failure. Error Code: 0x8007001F. Help. I'm stymied. View this thread

HI, I have windows 7 home, 64-bit. around a week ago, i installed a windows update ,after which programs( like windows media player, skype) suddenly started crashing a lot. next day I found this message when i tried to re install skype. "the program can't start because gdiplus.dll is missing from your computer" After 2-3 days, it started happening frequently, Now, when ever i try to install a program, it gives the same error. Many softwares are crashing frequently(mozilla firefox, internet explorer) and some are not working at all (like windows media player and windows photo viewer) I have tried to download gdipluss.dll file from internet but it didn't worked. I have also tried system resore but it does not shows the date of windows update. View this thread

I have a new, HP laptop that came with Windows 7 Home (64 bit). About 3-4 weeks ago I upgraded it to Win 7 Pro (64 bit), and have not had any problems until now. My laptop is set to download & notify me when updates are available - but let me choose when to install them. This morning, I got the usual message on my taskbar that updates were available to install. I clicked on install and waited. After several minutes, the message that updates had been successfully installed appeared. But, after that, I (again) received a message saying that updates were available to be installed. They were two updates that had been reported as installed, but didn't. The first update that would not install is: "Update for Microsoft .NET Framework," and the second is "Microsoft Silverlight (KB2668562)." I tried several times to install the updates, but they failed. After that I tried: 1) Restarting the laptop & trying again, that didn't work; 2) Disabling UAC, restarting the PC, that didn't work; 3) Disabling my anti-virus software (Avast Pro 7), and downloading the updates manually, that didn't work, 4) Shutting down the PC & letting it install the .NET Framework update, then disconnecting the AC & removing the battery for 20 minutes, that hasn't worked either. Finally, I ran Microsoft Fix-it. It reported one problem being found & fixed, but I still have the issue of not being able to install the 2 updates. Also, I don't know if it is related, but a window keeps popping up that says "Updates for Microsoft Office Starter 2010 - English require a new version of the Microsoft Client Virtualization Handler. Please use Microsoft Update to get the new version of the Microsoft Client Virtualization Handler so you can continue to receive updates for security, performance and reliabality." However, when I run Windows Update from Internet Explorer 9 (64-bit), I am not getting the option to install this update. I have read some of the Windows Update Articles in hopes of finding a solution, but nothing seemed to apply. Any suggestions? Thanks, Terry View this thread

Suddenly I am getting popups that say Microsoft Security Essentials is cleaning a problem , no action required. Nothing has changed on my machine as far as I know. I looked at the GUI and there is no indication that this is going on. Is this bogus, in a loop or something nefarious has crawled into my laptop. Does MSE stop MAL? One of my colleagues had this problem recently ... apparantly it spreads automatically in email 'links' and is quite dangerous. He and I communicate regularly ... how do I know if he has passed it to me? Full scans with MSE and the 'manual' Malwarebytes fortunately show nothing. View this thread

Now the Action Center is notifying that Security Essentials is turned off and must be manually turned on using the Security Essentials program. However, I cannot find MS Security Essentials listed in my programs. I don't understand how it would disappear since it was active prior to this. Can anyone advise? Thanks! :) View this thread

Hi, I was researching on the difference between a quick scan and a full scan and to my knowledge what I understand is that a quick scan will scan a hard drive in all areas that malware is known to store itself where a full scan will scan all areas of the hard drive, so it is recommended to just run a quick scan. My question is if today or tomorrow someone creates a virus which stores itself on the hard drive where no other malware stores itself, wouldn't a quick scan not detect it and a full scan will? So then wouldn't it be best to do a full scan ? View this thread
