Windows 7 Defender program, can't switch it on or find folder on hard drive but it is on Hard drive! View this thread

i keep trying to update windows 7 and it says there are 65 important updates. well when i try to install them i get these error codes "WindowsUpdate_80246008" "WindowsUpdate_dt000". windows says this is an unknown error. i tried running the fix it trouble shooter, and it gave me a detailed report. it said windows update compnents must be repaired, and problem with BITS. those problems werent fixed. any suggestions? I've been having this problem for over a week now, so I know it's not an intermittent connection issue. I get error messages saying that Windows Update and Microsoft Security Essentials automatic updates failed. I go in and attempt to do the updates manually and they again fail. I've attempted all of Microsoft's automatic fixes for this issue and none of them have worked. The failure is in the connection process, however, I have a solid internet connection and can do pretty much anything else online. I was having the same problem with Norton live update before this, where I couldn't retrieve updates, which is why I switched to Microsoft Security Essentials. I'm thinking it might be some sort of virus that is blocking any updates, but I've run complete scans and my system shows up clean. The virus definitions are only about a week old. On my Windows Professional XP laptop this Windows Update failed to install > KB27779562 Error Code: 0x8007F0F4 I do NOT need this update yet it keeps on appearing on my icon bar!! I have looked ever where for a fix, and I've got nothing. So, I tried to update windows 7 with sp1. Well now I get a fatal error a quarter of the way through the update after reboot. It is always error c0190003 and it is always something to do with ssText3d. I just need a way to cancel the update so I can boot back into windows 7 pre update. I have tried to boot in safe mode, but it freezes. I've tried last know configuration, also just goes back to trying to update. I also tried this dism fix, but i always get an error. Worst case is a fix I found that requires deleting lines of code from the pending.xml. any takers? I'm stumped. View this thread

After several attempts of running Windows Update Troubleshooter I was able to start Windows Update, but troubleshooter ends up with phrase that Windows Update failed were not repaired. When I try to download and install updates, I get error 80246008. Checking services.msc I do not see Background Intelligent Transfer Service listed. Any suggestions what to do? I do not have Windows installation disc since my computer came with pre-installed OS and I did not create repair disc (my fault). Is there any way to download missing BITS components? 4 daysrepeated failures when attempting to install Windows 7 Platform Update KB2670838 & IE 10. I'm running Win7 Home Premium with SP1 & all current updates. Repeated attempts to install KB2670838 result in failure error 80073712. This is a platform update required to install IE 10, which will also not install & generates error 9C57. Repeated attempts have been made to install KB2670838 using Windows update and manual update. Troubleshooting tools (Fix-It) have been run multiple times with results stating errors have been found & fixed. Text reporting the fixes made is shown below, & is identical on every occasion: · Potential Windows Update Database error detected 0x80073712 - fixed · Windows Update components must be repaired - fixed · Problem with Background Intelligent Transfer Service (BITS) - fixed I then retry the install and am told the update was successfully installed. When I check update status, the update is not listed. Restart, Check for Updates and KB2670838 is again listed as a required update. I even purchased software which was advertised to fix the problem. Hi I just brought an Asus s200e and it came with Windows 8.Im having problems running Windows update on it I ran a WIndows update tool and these are the results Error 80070002 Windows UPdate components must be repaired Problem with Background Transfer Service .Straight out of the box I uninstalled McAfee Internet Security oping for Windows Defender.Whenever I run Windows update its stuck at 0% I tried numerous solutions I tried runnning Fixit but it didnt support Windows 8.I ran WindowsUpdateDiagnostic that semi fixed it.As in it was able to install updates after that but as soon as i restarted there were more updates to be installed and once again the updates were stuck at 0%.I also tried stopping the Windows Update Service and deleting C:WindowsSoftwareDistribution folder.There was a solution saying to" right click on command prompt in the list, run as administrator, then type: net stop “windows update” I tried doing this on Windows 8 and it came with a cmd saying the Syntax of this command is NET STOPI tried a couple of other commands i saw in other peoples solutions but it did not work in Windows 8 On top of that I restored my laptop to factory settings removing all files and restoring default windows files Numerous times and this also did not work. Hi, For a couple of weeks now I have been prompted to install the updates above. Each time they are approved for installation they fail and Windows Update quotes error code 0800736b3. Prior to coming on this forum I have scoured the internet and undertaking many tasks including: Downloading the Windows Update Fix-It which states that Windows Update Components must be repaired. I approve the repair but if the tool is run again even after a reboot, it reports the same problem. I have run the System update readiness toolkit and this has reported no corruptions. I have run the system file checker - again with no issues found. I am tearing my hair out here as I simply cannot install these updates. I have32-bit OS-- Window 7 Home Premium, Service Pack 1. Problem 1.: Windows Update has stopped working,. despite successful "fixings" by the PC system itself. Have installed & tried update problem fixing tool, but no effect. I tried to upgrade through running Windos 7 disc. But upgrade process stops with message that 11 GB plus space is required; I have 4 GB space in Disk C. Problem 2: Despite uninstalling many programs and shifting large amounts of documents/pictures etc. to Discs D & E, there is no increase in free space in Disc C to enable Windows Upgrade.
