I am operating a Toshiba M305-S4910 using Vista with SP2 as an operating system. My PC is protected by Norton 360 and had been for several years. Today is April 22, 2013. I just noticed that, as of Feb 15, 2013 that almost all Windows updates have failed. Many of them are entitled "Security Update for Windows Vista for x64-based Systems........." which leads me to believe that I am not receiving new virus definitions amongst other things so it sounds critical to me. I cannnot remember anything significant regarding Feb 15 that might explain this situation. Looking thru what help is available, it appears that this is a rather uncommon error and seems to be confined mainly to Windows 7. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. View this thread

I'm trying to install updates for Nvidia - whatever that is - but my PC doesn't seem to recognise them. It crashes instead of restarts, then I have to go through all the system restore palaver and the updates still have not been installed. It feels like Groundhog Day!! View this thread

I am unable to log into the update server . If i try manually to trigger the updates the system returns with 80072efe. The settings panel of the updates is disabled. I have tried using Fix it without any help. Look forward to suggestions from the community View this thread

Windows update has worked perfectly until recently. Newly imaged XP machine (old machine), SP3, 141 security patches, MSE (plus it updates still no problem), Genuine Advantage, all the optional patches, drivers etc - everything without a problem. Last update applied was .NET 4.0 client profile. Now when I go to Windows update, the site comes up, I can choose express or custom, the red blocks indicating status start whizzing along, but then instead of getting a list of patches, I get a page (within windows update) that says website encountered a problem, error 0x8024402F. I have tried MS Fixit, the online steps (including adding sites to trusted zone), switched off Microsoft Update back to Windows Update, nothing makes a difference. View this thread

Hi, I am trying to use Windows Movie Maker (not Windows Live MM) and when I import .AVI files it only recognises them as audio (in player they are vedioes with audio). I need a copy of my activation key as I saved a copy in my emails but had email problems and lost the activation code and now need to re-install windows 8 I cannot update windows 8,updates get to 98% and then revert back to original, I have not been able to carry out any updates since installing windows 8 ? Hi Everyone. Since the last Windows 8 sometime this week Windows is not remembering my mouse settings. Each time I boot I have to go back in and set them again. Never had any problems before. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Kind regards, Mike. View this thread

Connecting to my Win XP (SP3) computer via RDP (Win7 RDP client; Win XP RDP server) crashes XP (BSOD, 0x1000007E) upon copy/paste operation.I want to update to the latest rdpdr.sys, because that's what the BSOD says is the problem.The latest rdpdr.sys (I can find) is from http://support.microsoft.com/kb/978787/en-us, version 5.1.2600.5950BUT, there is no download button, no hotfix. I maintain a Java applet that is locally deployed on computers not under my control, for which I've recently gotten a code signing certificate. Unfortunately, the Windows 7 computer I'm on (as well as several others I'm aware of) doesn't recognize the Go Daddy root certificate authority (Go Daddy Class 2 Certification Authority Root Certificate - G2, with SHA1 thumbprint 47:BE:AB:C9:22:EA:E8:0E:78:78:34:62:A7:9F:45:C2:54:FD:E6:8B).From http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931125 however, it appears that Windows will examine an unfamiliar root certificate (scroll to "More information" / "How Windows updates root certificates" / "Windows Vista and Windows 7"). I've seen this happen with an https/ssl request, but I can't make this happen when I download my applet.How can I force my computer to update its root certificates, in steps simple enough that I can tell my users to do that as well?Thanks View this thread
