When windows updated and I restarted the computer the screen was shrunk and Icould not access the start button. I was able to run system restore and get the screen back however the next evening it did the same thing. Ihave turned off the auto update for now. View this thread

Why am I receiving an error (0x80070002) when I run Windows Network Diagnostics? I get the same error when using Internet Connection, Network Adapter, Home Group and Shared Folders. I also get the same error when I try to download Microsoft Fit It. 15 times I tried security updates .NET Framework but FAILED (KB2729452) code 80073712. I can get online using my router. I just made once again a computer checkup on windows xp prof., using Norton 360 on my pc and close to 200 files remain unproven although all those microsoft files are presence and scanned everyday automatic. Why do not all but too many windows files remain unknown? View this thread

MSE appears to be working fine ... a quick scan would take a few minutes (may be 5 or 6 ) but suddenly it's taking no more than 24 seconds ... should I be worried? View this thread

Hello, I have tried to install windows vista service pack 2 from the Microsoft Download Center but it always fails with error code 0x80070490. I have run the Microsoft Fix it troubleshooter. When the troubleshooter is complete, the issues found is: “Windows update components must be repaired” and the Fix status is: “Fixed”. I tried installing windows vista SP2 again but it failed with the same error code (0x80070490). I then downloaded and run the System Update Readiness tool (Checksur.exe) which was successful but when I tried to install SP2 again it failed with the same error code (0x80070490). I am unable to “Perform a repair installation of Windows” since I have misplaced my windows vista R2 DVD and other CD’s etc. I would appreciate any help to get SP2 installed on my PC (Vista home premium 32 bit SP1). Every time I turn on the computer the Real-time Protection is off. This has just started happening. The computer is five years old running Windows 7- 64 bit. I opened Microsoft Animalware Service. It is set to startup : Automatic, however you cannot start or stop the function. I checked all the tabs and no choices are available. On the Dependencies tab it indicated it is dependent on (RPC) Remote Procedure Call. What does this mean and how to get things working again?? Thank you View this thread

I am running Windows XP - when I try to download directly from the download center, it says No Critical Updates at this time... But the yellow icon in the system tray says that there are two critical updates pending (nVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430 and nVIDIA GeForce 7900 GT/GTO). Hi, I am using WinXP Home Edition. The Microsoft Security Essential prompty me with the message on the taskbar icon "Potentially Unprotected". Then I clicked the icon to update it. However, I got another message "Virus & spywae definitions status - connection failed. MSE wasn't able to complete the virus & spyware definitions update on 20 April 2013. Make sure your compputer is connected to the Internet and try again". I checked that my internet connection is okay. I also unchecked the MS Antimalware and MS Management Console in my CC Cleaner settings and restarted my computer. However, when I tried to update the MSE again I still have the same message. Ran the fix-it and the following response was given. Windows Update components must be repaired. One or more Windows Update components are configured incorrectly. FYI, I can't even send troubleshooter results (not that I currently feel like this would help anyway at this point in time.) Need help please. View this thread

Since the last Cumulative Security Windows Update for XP, my computer (which is on AutoUpdate!) will not update itself. It does download the update, but it doesn't install it. The downloads complete, but installation fails. I've tried dozens of times, including reverting to default settings throughout the computer, and the Microsoft Mr. Fix-It Center. Still, no Windows Updating. The Icon in the notification area of the taskbar remains, and yes, it goes through the same ring-around -the-rosey, each time I click on it, over and over.....till I'm blue in the face. Been failing since the 10th of April. Tried disabling Antivirus, Firewall & AdBlocker. Tried the troubleshooter and Mr blinkin FixIt which failed although it claims to have suceeded.
