After downloading the Malicious Software Removal Tool from Microsoft's website, I received an error stating that my system was not compatible with the program. I'm running up to date Windows 7 64x. Any ideas as to what is causing this error. My pc has been running really slow and I'm sure that I have some sort of malware or virus due to a strange search page popping up when I click on links from Google or Bing. When you close the link then select it again, the webpage then goes to where you wanted. I'm running Security Essentials and have tried other programs (that I know are safe) and nothing is finding what it is. I assume that this is whats blocking the Malicious Software Removal Tool. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP-1. No Windows Updates have not succeeded since 2011 or early 2012- critical or recommendeed. History only goes back to 12/24/2012, but that's incorrect. I run Norton 360 which I have to to update using a Norton Intelligent updater. In order to download most programs, I have to select "Run as Administrator" in IE eventhough I am the administrator or use Safe Mode. Malwarebytes always reports Database corrupt or missiing when I try to open. I suspect all the many problems of programs not responding; access denied errors; missing or corrupt .msi or .dll errors are related to missing security updates that have left computer open to attack. Neither Norton nor Malwarebytes report infections. Computer is sometimes virtually unusable. I have 16GB free of 300GB. View this thread

All drivers are intalled and IE7. Turned off Enhanced Security and added update.microsoft.com to Trusted Sites. Everything else is just as it installed from the CD. View this thread

But she was expecting a sizable receivable from a large customer that sometimes remits with an AmEx corporate card. She's wiser now. The Trojan downloaded a worm that spread through a workgroup and infected a NetWare 5 server to which drive letters were mapped through the Novell Client. Can't check at this point, but can only assume that MSE did scan the malware file, but didn't detect the signature because MSE might not have been current. What else can we do beyond keeping Windows patches current and updating Security Essentials? Would IMAP email accounts in Outlook be more secure, given that message attachments can be detached? My definitions suddenly wouldn't update a few days ago, so I tried to uninstall MSE. It wouldn't uninstall, so I ran Microsoft Fix. That didn't solve it, so I started doing everything I could find, including everything on this page: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/protect/forum/mse-protect_start/uninstalling-mse/a63b8c4b-58ed-437e-8086-fa08d80725a4 I ran offline defender (from USB), but my PC is clean. I've never installed any other anti-virus. MSE appears to be uninstalled, but it still won't re-install - I get error 0x0070645. The last recommendation on the page is to "open a support case." Repair install XP PRO SP3. No manual updates availible IE8. Started repair from basic XP PRO (no SP's). Allowed auto updates which appeared. Could not start manual updates vie IE8. Ued fixit auto and manual with reregistering dll. Reinstall updateagent etc. View this thread
