I run Vista Home Premium on an HP Pavillion dv6000. The drive (Mitsubishi) itself is recognized, and even runs CDs with photos, but does not recognize data CDs such as program installation discs. I have done ALL the recommended corrections including "Microsoft's Fixit (it says there is a problem but can't fixit.) In addition I have deleted the upper and lower filters from the appropriate Key files. AND followed the zillion step instructions from HP. Can anyone help? Flyfisher View this thread

Original title: Cannot get online with new router. I am having a lot of trouble getting online using my laptop. My house mate has recently got a new EE Brightbox. It works perfectly fine with her laptop and mobile phone. Also works with my mobile phone. However, when i try to use my laptop it only gives me 'Local Access'. I have no problem connecting to the router, but it just won't let me go online. Have tried disconnecting/reconnecting the wireless connection on laptop, starting from scratch with wired connection to router, re-booting router, and re-setting router. None of these have worked. When I open my .pdf files that I have scanned and saved to my computer, I cannot read the document. All I see are grey pages where the words/pictures should be. When I open .pdf files from the Internet, most of the file shows, but not all. Some pictures are grey rectangles. I am running Windows 7 and have updated Adobe files to the most current version. About 5 seconds after i have my desktop showing I get the BSOD. I went to MSCONFIG and disabled everything with the same result. On the BSOD I get stop 0x00000050 and SRTSPL64.sys - address FFFFF8800B227082 base at FFFFF8800B200000, DateStamp 4a80e58a. Any ideas?I have not installed anything new. No recent updates. When I want to attach a pdf file to our accounting software Invoice Form, I click on the "Find Attachment" and it lets me browse my library for the specific file. I attach the file and go onto the next one. Once in awhile, after I attach the first file from the library, and then go to the next form to attach another file, it will show the same folder that I previously was in. Then I don't have to navigate through all the libraries to get to that particular folder again. This is a big time-saver when I have a lot of of forms that I attach a file to. Any idea why it does this and how I can keep it doing that ALL the time? View the thread

Hi, I have spent many day reviewing and trying different technical posts for this problem. I have WHS 2003 on an ASUS TS-mini. I was busy and overlooked warnings on my server health. Both drives were going bad, both internal SATA drives 1TB each. Sys drive was only slightly corrupted according to my SMART addin However, storage HDD #2 was in bad shape. I was able to go into console and remove HDD#2 without problem. I then added via console a 2 TB SATA drive in HDD#2 location and succeeded. Next I went for removal of my HDD#1 (WHS sys drive), but the drive removal tool in console is greyed out and does not work. I have tried everything. I still have an operating Server but it's no use knowing my drive is about to die. NOte: Before I began, I backed up alll my data to other computers. Other things I tried, WHS recovery with files, WHS reload on original hardrive, WHS factory default on New 2TB drive. The only way to get my server to function is with the old dataless 1TB "shakie" drive. How do I get around the problem of the console not allowing the system drive to be removable? Currently my server is only useful as a nice brick. Any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated. View this thread

I bought a used Dell PC with XP installed. It has the XP Home Edition product key sticker on it along with codes. I've recently lost Windows help when I did a third party uninstall of a non-Windows program, and I do not know how to restore/fix the problem without the original CDs. I already have a good working windows 7 operating system thats active on the laptop and i want to system clean it but i noticed that the product key sticker at the bottom is faded away. Because of this, i cant. I researched a bit and people are saying about programs such as jelly bean keyfinder etc... and when i used them. i can see that the cd key the programs show is different from the product key code from the laptop and it doesnt work. What can i do? Its a samsung laptop and i do have the windows 7 home premium cd that came with it. I really dont want to spend money on a new product key. View the thread

When I try to use a VPN to access my employer's server I get error 609: A DEVICE WAS SPECIFIED THAT DOES NOT EXIST. It is prefaced by "cannot connect the Phone Book Entry" I have Windows 7 on an HP Pavillion, and everything else is operating correctly. Except the VPN. The games won't install. I'm running Windows Vista and have changed the settings on Preferences on my computer and it still won't install. Can't run from xp sp2 mode if it won't install in the first place. I had to restore my computer recently. I've never had a problem with Big Fish Games before, have played them for years on this computer. I ran it with my virus programs turned off. Original Title: driver not installedI have two new printers. HP Photosmart 6510 a Brother HL-2270-DW. In Device printers, It shows 2 of each printer, even when I remove the printer and unplug them. I have uninstalled / reinstalled them 10 times each. It will also show ERROR in the PC box. Witch reads “ driver not installed” but yet it will print for now. I cannot reset this. My computer is really slow and getting worse by the minute. I keep getting this message you have 8000 and some odd registry errors, i downloaded Chameleon 1.62.1 from Malwarebytes and followed their instructions now I get this message you have 4000 and some odd registry errors. i recently purchased a workstation from Dell with office 2013 home & business. The office installation came with click-to-run system, i don't want this i want msi based setup. I've tried to download via office.com/getoffice but Unfortunately I cannot download the msi-based setup via the "Alternative Fulfilment Page", because I did not buy Office within the Microsoft Store and therefore my license does not show up in the suggested page. I need to do a custom installation, with a iso file or whatever, i've searched for days to find a way to resolve this, but nothing. What should i do?Can someone help me? I can't start my server 2008 foundation because AD can't access adb.log etc on virtual drive D, which I deleted to extend the partition used as C: so I could install SQL Server 2012. Short history - Physical drive partitioned in to C and D: with C the OS drive, and D labelled as DATAPART. C too small, so copied everything off D; to another physical drive in server, deleted the DATAPART partition assigned as D:, and extended the OS/C: partition, Server won't restart as it can't find edb.log on D:, Now I can only get to a command prompt. To make it worse, this reassigns the drives as C: - RECOVERY and the OS drive as D, (formerly C), and I can't see how use DISKPART to assign a drive letter to the extended partition on the OS volume, and make it persist. Using DISKPART I tried to re assign the other physical disk, (G) as D, so it would appear correctly at restart, but it seems DISKPART is only valid for the current session, and at restart the original settings were restored., so D: went back to being G: I've also tried creating an autoexec.bat file with SUBST G:D_DRIVE D: but I guess autoexec is obsolete now, because it didn't work. The alternative is to change the location that AD looks for the edb.log, but with only a command prompt, I guess that's tricky. Any help in plain English greatly appreciated - I'm a SQL Server developer. and not a hardware builder! View the thread
