I have received a phone call from a person who said she was from Windows Technical Support. She said that she wanted to talk about a problem with my computer. As I never give information to unknowns, I told her that I do not have a computer. She insisted and said that she has a computer registered in my name and spelled out my name for me, just in case I didn't know how to spell! I insisted that I do not have a computer, to which she hung up without so much as a goodbye. The phone number that appeared on my phone screen was as follows: +971 2 179 514 (the country code is that of the United Arab Emirates, in Abu Dhabi, to be more precise). I know Microsoft may have better things to do, but wouldn't it be a good thing if the authorities took a look into these crooks/embezzlers / scam artist set-ups or in other words CALL CENTERS who prey on innocent and unsuspecting honest people? Isn't that why laws exist? I am seriously alarmed when I get a call from an Indian accented woman from one of the Gulf countries to find that they have information about me and my computer. Please tell me that when I register my computer or other such devices with Windows or Microsoft, that my personal information is not being sold out to criminals! Although the privacy agreements stipulate that it will not happen. View this thread

I un-installed Catalyst Control Centre, as it was taking up space, it kept making pop-ups saying it had stopped working. I also read somewhere (not Wikipedia) that Catalyst Control Centre was a virus so I un-installed it, which un-installed a few other things related to it one of them my Video Card which I now understand handles Screen Resolution, Colour Scheme, My Personalisation Colour Settings in Google Chrome and alot of other features that I'm just discovering. It lowered the Screen Resolution on my Laptop (zoomed it in a lot) and reset all my colour personalisations to the standard which I hate. I'm wondering if I should reset my computer to an earlier date or if I should download a new Video Card. I have downloaded the Catalyst Control Centre and what came with it but nothing has changed now, options in Control Panel > Appearance and Personalisation are missing which is what I used to make my settings and where it normally lets me change colours (I had chosen red) are all gone. The screen resolution is still a little low (which means its still a little zoomed in) in from what it was previously and how I liked it but at least I can still do what I need to (I use this computer mainly for Facebook and Games, my whole life revolves around the two of them, so for me it's essential that I fix this, It may not seem like a big deal to you but to me it is!) So should I reset my computer to an earlier date or download something or what. Just please help me. If I have to do a System Restore could someone please tell me how to do it or where to go? I am using a Windows Vista Business 32-bit. Thanks guys, -Zane. View this thread

When I connect my camera to the computer USB port and turn on the camera I can hear it make the connection but nothing happens. I disconnect the USB end and try again and refresh - still nothing. I have a Kodak camera and did have the Easyshare software but it no longer works and I deleted it. I have looked at all the instructions and video on how to import pictures using Windows Live and am sure that I'm doing it correctly. What is the problem? View the thread

Hi, I have several Win7 computers that remote into a hosting company's server. Our users will log into the hosting company's servers via remote desktop. The issue that keeps coming back is that the keyboard will stop functioning after a user locks the computer then returns after a short period of time to continue working. The remote desktop session will remain working while the pc is locked. After unlocking the computer the keyboard will not work in the remote session. The mouse isn't affected by this and minimizing the session, the keyboard works fine on the local session. Sometimes you have to restore down then restore back or minimize the RDP session several times to get the keyboard to work inside the remote session. On a few occasions, ending the RDP session will cause the keyboard to work again. Anyone experienced this and have a resolution for this issue? This issue appears to be occurring more frequently and we have already recreated user profiles on the remote server but to no avail. Thank you for your help. Jon View the thread

Hi, I have just installed Office 2013 migrating from Office 2010 and I'm facing issues with my IMAP servers. All folders were correctly transferred and are synchronized with my IMAP servers, unfortunately the inbox do not want to collaborate. They are labelled as (this computer only) and do not synchronized with the IMAP servers. As such, my inbox are effectively back to a POP style server and what I open on Outlook 2013, won't be synchronized on any other devices. Help? View this thread

I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit. I also run Windows XP mode occasionally on this system. I didn't think anything had changed in the XP mode setup, but now today when I try to access the C: drive on my Windows 7 system from XP (which is labelled in Windows Explorer as "C on SYSTEM-NAME") XP mode crashes, restarts, and gives me a chance to send the error log to Microsoft. I can access the XP C: drive fine.I went through netsetup in XP to give the XP system a different name than my Windows 7 system name (although it was already different). Nothing changed.I disabled my avast antivirus protection on the XP system, but that didn't change anything.Do I need to do something in the Windows 7 system to allow XP access to the Windows 7 drives? This system was brand new last summer, and I set up the XP mode at that time. I'm sure I was able to access the Windows 7 drives from within XP for months. I don't know what has changed to create this problem. Any ideas? Thanks! View the thread

i worked for 3 days putting together a movie with pictures and sound. when i go to save it to the computer or save it to cd it gives a status bar that never changes from 0% and below it is a counter that tells remaining minutes. well that counter goes up instead of down. the movie that i put together was about 25 minutes and i left the pc on for 9 hours and the minute counter was up to 3,600,000 minutes to go . this is very confusing as i then gave up. i ended up using a program called dazzle to burn the video but that is very unstable program and keeps locking up when putting together a picture video. hope someone has an answer for me . i am running win XP View this thread

Why are all the questions & answers so old as in 2009 to 2011 & a few in 2012 on the 1 thru 12 pages on MICROSOFT COMMUNITY WINDOWS under the question "HOW DO I GET AROUND WINDOWS 7's FILE PERMISSIONS? I'm sure people are still having this same problem in 2013 because I sure am and has become worse. Meaning we are all being denied access to files that we own and have a right to access. I do not think this can be any more clearly stated. Thank You if you can answer this question. This is dated APRIL 2, 2013 View the thread

windows 7 WipZip Optimizer/Registry Optimizer
News Bot posted a topic in Operating Systems Help & Support
Hi, I just updated µTorrent and WinZip (which I needed) appeared along with it, and also Registry Optimizer showed-up on my screen.. Now I don't know much about these programs but I noticed that the Certificate of Registry Optimizer expired since mid-2012.. Is it safe to download it anyway? The Optimizer reported 1094 problems and I must admit that I have some problems with my laptop recently. Any advise? Thank you. CC View the thread -
My calendar has been working normally all day. The same look, same format, etc. I just signed in a few mins ago and all events are in pink. It used to be if I wanted to add an event, I would move my cursor to the upper right corner of the date and it would say add. I would click on it and a template would come up allowing me to add the event. After adding, I was able to print if I so chose. Now, I can't do any of this. HELP!!!!!! View the thread

In order to receive and send my Hotmail messages I have restored my computer to an earlier time. Can anyone help resolve this matter. I have tried the Fix it program but that does not help. Background I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1. I have already applied all available windows updates. I recently purchased an Epson WF-3540 printer and installed it per the CD. I am logged on as the administrator and connected to the printer via USB. Problem I am unable to set the WF-3540 as my default printer. I also cannot print from Adobe products as the WF-3540 is not in the available printers list; however, it does show up in Devices and Printers under the Start Menu. When I try to set it as the default printer, I get the error code 0x00000709. What I have already tried I have uninstalled and reinstalled the printer software both from the CD as well as the online download from the manufacturer. I have disabled the Windows firewall. I have spent an hour on the phone with Epson Support who stated that the printer is functioning correctly and the problem lies with Microsoft. I have used the Microsoft Fix It application from the help section. It says to set my printer as the default to correct the problem. If I could do that, I wouldn't have the problem in the first place. Fix It was also unable to set it as the default printer. I have attempted to edit the registry, but I get the error message: Cannot edit Device: Error Writing the value's new contents. My old printer is still listed in the registry. There are no printing jobs from my old printer that would be holding anything up. I have checked the Adobe software and there is no problem with it, nor are there any updates. I have rebooted after all attempted procedures. View the thread
