I use Media Player for all music. Recently I downloaded a number of tunes but they didn't appear in my music library. After searching around I found that they all went into the Media Player's "OTHER MEDIA" library rather than the music library. I can play the music in other media, but can't figure out how to get Media Player to recognize that all the items are music so I can have them all in my music library. View this thread

There is nothing wrong w/ going from Desktop to the Start screen w/ its Tiles for some or all things OR going to WinQ for things OR pinning a bunch of stuff OR having icons all over the Desktop BUT, You might like this approach... It means not having to do any of the 3 things mentioned above. The Applications window sits on the Taskbar. Please note the use, employment of Desktop Toolbar, greatly facilitates ease of navigation & allows screen to be 'clean' of icons. Cheers, Drew [url=' alt='> Drew MS Partner / MS Beta Tester / Pres. Ever since upgrading to Windows 8 it takes a long time to establish a direct RDP connection to Windows Server 2003 or Server 2008. From Windows 7 it used to take about a second. With the Windows 8 RDP client it takes about a minute to connect to a server. Thanks in advance for any insights into this issue. View the full article

windows 8 Dictate using Speech Recognition
News Bot posted a topic in Operating Systems Help & Support
Hello, I have a problem with Speech Recognition. It's working fine listening to commands, and does as I say, however all it hears is commands. I've read somewhere that what it doesn't reconize as a command, is inserted as text. However, it takes every word I say as a command. If it doesn't reconize a command, all it says is: "What was that?". Does anyone know how to fix this, or perhaps an alternative for Speech Recognition? Thank you in advance. View the full article -
Windows Vista systems, Windows 8 server, roaming profiles, Outlook using POP3 Microsoft DPM. local copies of offline files are set to be encrypted. Because of past problems with multiple revisions of files group policy is set to synchronize on startup and shutdown. Users are complaining about long delays and slow performance during startup and shutdown times. I suspect that this is because of the synchronization. What is available to speed up the synchronization process or to monitor the total size and speed of the processes? View this thread

windows 8 Windows 8 and NumLock on Lockscreen
News Bot posted a topic in Operating Systems Help & Support
Hi there, I have a really annoying problem on all of my Win8 laptops. Whenever fast startup is enabled, NumLock on the Keyboard is disabled on the Lockscreen. When I turn off fast startup or do a reboot everything works fine. This scenario is reproducible and definitely related to the fast startup setting. The InitialKeyboardIndicators Key is set up correctly. As you can log on to Win8 with a PIN this is even more annoying. Is there any other fix for this available then disabling fast startup? Thanks a lot! View the full article -

windows 8 Windows 8 reboots without a warning
News Bot posted a topic in Operating Systems Help & Support
Hi all, I'm having troubles with my PC (Windows 8) since the first day of 2013 when I came to work as usual, opened Winamp to play a song and and when I double-click the file the PC suddenly rebooted itself, on Log On there was no Error Notify, no dump file, no nothing and from that day I'm having reboots without a warning constantly, the next day still the same thing with winamp, after that the PC crashed when working in Outlook. Until the first reboot without a warning the system was working properly for more than 3 months (Windows 8), I've tried other RAM modules, uninstalled Norton Internet Security, checked the CPU temperature - all good around ~38, removed my USB speakers (the only USB device attached to my PC), didn't used another PSU yet but I don't think it's a power issue because it's a good PSU and no Hardware changes were made. So, the crashes can happen anytime, but if I want the PC to reboot itself it will definitely happen when using Winamp, playing a song or just maximizing the window by dragging it. I'm a advanced PC user but I never seen such a thing before. Windows has all updates installed and I installed the latest Winamp version. Need some help with this one, thank you.... I have followed instructions for error 80070020 to start Windows in safe mode with internet access, but Windows Update won't open when clicked in the Start Search box. Internet access is available and I can connect with other websites. It does however start when Windows is in normal mode, but that doesn't help me resolve my problem View this thread

The new Windows Store Apps execution model is optimized for mobile devices, which means that the GUI frontend stops execution when it is not visible. It resumes execution when becomes visible again. This is completely unnecessary in desktop Windows 8, or a plugged in mobile device as a matter of fact.). The time it takes to re-symc the frontend with actual data in the backend, often takes too much time. This lag is not a nice UI experience. In cases when power usage is not an issue (desktop and plugged in mobile devices), the frontend should not be interrupted, but kept running as it causes no problems, but helps to eliminate the unnecessary lags. Does it makes sense? Would it be possible to change this in future SPs? View the full article

Today Windows Update gave me a list of non-critical updates. I proceeded to select them and install them. However, for the past nine hours the progress bar "Preparing to install..." has not progressed. When I click the Stop installation button it says "You need to provide administrator permission. To complete this task, you need to sign in with an administratrator account or ask an administrator to complete the task for you." How do I provide administrator permission? How do I sign in with an administrator account (mine is already an administrator account except that the name is not called administrator) without stopping this task? Is there a bug? The Stop installation button shouldn't be giving such a message. In the first place, administrator permission was needed to start this task. View the full article

Hi there, i have very irritating issue with Windows 8, independent from Application used when using Application menu and its near right end of screeen, the sub menus entries does not show on left side to prevent going out of screeen ONLY are displaying indented on right so are SHOW OUT OF SCREEN. the only solution is to make window smaller and move out of the right side. perfect example, Skype i have on the end right side of scrren, i click menu "Contacts" the content of menu partialy goes already off screeen end when selecting sub menu "Contact Lists" its content is shown off screen complatelly its anoying and i found no solution for it, and i am using single screen and plain vanila windows 8 no addons or extra design/screen releated tools. Maybe there is some setting which could help me with, i do not think i am alone facing it. View the full article
