Just an FYI in case the mods are taking feedback. 1. Windows Store Search (search Charm with the Store as the active App): Here, search behaves differently from when activated from the Start Screen or Desktop. For example, with Desktop search, type netflix and I get the NetFlix App in the big area and the Apps Category counter keeps up eventually showing 1. In App Store Search, type NetFlix, the Apps Category counter does not reflect the count until clicked. It's not a matter of what's displayed in the results area since in Desktop Search, Settings and Files counts keep up even when not displayed. Also, the results under Recommendations and the second group (Apps) are indistinguishable so it's not really clear that one leads to the App Store content and the other opens the already installed App. 2. With no Modern Apps running the Start Screen Desktop preview (upper left) has a close option that appears to have no affect. With one Modern App running, it may or may not remove the Desktop 'App' from the running list (sorry, I haven't figured out exactly what scenario results in which behavior). With multiple Modern Apps running, Close Desktop on the running Apps list and it's gone for good. View the full article

Hi, i have a Toshiba Notebook, z830-11j with AMT and latest Bios. With a clean Windows 8 installation the notebook goes into deep standy. After resume with Power oder Keyboard all i get is a black screen. The fan is completely silent and the cpu get's hotter and hotter. no sound is playes, no network (ping) is responding. if i don't shutdown the notebook by force (press power for 10 seconds) it will overheat and die. I installed all Toshiba drivers and all windows update. The problem is still there. 3 out of 10 times, this will happen after reumse. i contacted Toshiba, all they say: if it works with Windows 7, it's my problem if i install windows 8. Why: The tablet spends >90% of it's time comfortably docked, so.... Is there a setting that will return me to the Desktop when closing a Modern App instead of the Start Screen? Reason: I don't close an app with the intention of opening another, I close an App to close an app. This is just another 'extra step' Windows 8 has introduced to (for me) the most overwhelmingly common scenario. I am unable to deactivate the built-in Administrator account in Windows 7. I have tried doing it via an elevated command prompt with "net user administrator /active:no" but all this does, after reboot, is display an error message about the wrong user name or password and presents the Administrator account as a log-in option anyway (along with an option for "other users"). But if I attempt to log in to this Administrator account it requires a password to log-in, which I have not set. If I enable the account (again by elevated command prompt), I can log in as the Administrator normally, without password. I can still log in to my own account regardless but I would like to know how to solve this anyway. I can avoid the error by removing the password from my account but I don't want to do that. Hello, I have created a unattended installation for Microsoft Visio 2013 using setup.exe /config vispror.wwconfig.xml This will install visio 2013, but will not activate Visio. The auto_activate option is available using the Microsoft Customization Tool for Office 2013, but I can not find a admin-folder or template for visio2013 to configure this. Is there a separate download for the admin-folder for Visio 2013 or do I need another option to activate visio2013? Thx View this thread

Hi,My Vista Window suddenly ask me to activate again. I have entered my Product Key from the box but It said "This copy of window is not Genuine". It was bought from a big brand STAPLES in UK. It was activated successfully since It was bought 2008. So I do not see why it is not genuine now. Hi, I currently have myself in a bind and I'm not sure what steps I should take to fix the issue. I had an issue with my XP home edition pc so I decided to use a boot up cd for a re-installation. I copied my product key off my Control panel System area. Thinking that's all I needed, but after doing the installation I found out I was missing a full box of digits. So atm my pc is stuck on a product key number. My question is what are my options? I own 2 other pcs a laptop and a desktop both with windows 7. Could I upgrade to 8 and just use my 7 keys on this pc and forget about re-installing XP? Or is there anyway for me to restore my old pc back to normal to retrieve that xp key? I figure either way I'll have to buy some os but I'm just tired of stumbling from mistake to mistake. View the thread

I find that this question has been answered (see System and Maintenance[/b] icon in my control panel; only a "System" icon, and it does not result in a "Wizard" to guide me forward. My attepts to backup data seem to end up in the backup apparently of the whole C drive, which won't fit on my backup media. I am having major pc difficulties. It no longer switches off properly and I have to disconnect by operating the start button (it used to disconnect automatically before). Twp days ago it crashed big time and I called in a Shop Repairman. It had frozen in the midst of updating Drivers and a Drivers file had become corrupted (it told me). The machine totally froze and had to be unplugged from the wall to shut it down. The PC Guy reran the XP original disc and got it working again - sort of. He is very concerned about the background color of blue and said it indicated a corrupted hard disc or other major PC none repairable difficulties. He says it is nothing that I did trying to update software and thinks I really should get a new PC. Anyway the blue background is still there when I get a PC notification and now every time I switch off , after switching off, I get a long blue message which ends with these words "Technical info. STOP: 0x00000000A(0x00000000,0x000000002,0x00000001,0x804F9D54). It advises me that I have l,.oaded bad or corrupted hardware and that I should disconnect all new hardware installed - BUT I HAVE INSTALLED NOTHING. We made the mistake of purchasing a laptop with Windows 8 and MSN for Windows 8. These programs may be fine for smartphones or tablets, but for working computers, they are horrid and difficult to use. We really dispise the lack of Start Menu and MSN for Windows for pretty much everything. Is it possible to replace it with Windows 7 and IE 9? View the full article

I have Windows 7 on my Asus laptop, and the cursor jumps around while I'm typing an email, posting in a forum or typing anywhere else. It also deletes a whole sentence or paragraph that I've just typed. I have to watch where I'm typing, because I'll suddenly be typing in the middle of a previous sentence. How can I correct this?
