Yes but did you transfer using the USB pen drive and did the file open? It is possibly down to diffrent OS such as Vista and XP and using diffrent versions of a software. It could even be a permissions issue in Vista.
-
Hey again. Oh that is brilliant. I hope the new card arrives soon and all goes well for you. Excellent. JB.
-
You are correct Tootech. I agree if the memory usage is monitored I am sure with a quad core and 4 gig RAM your programs should run great.
-
Hey nick, old school is the best. It should sort that little box out. :)

Hello and welcome. I am not sure of what the cause is at the moment but others can input and help also. Could you please post what operating system you are running and what version of works. Also post what your friends PC is running. As you maybe running diffrent versions. The file may of become corrupt during attachment and send. Could you try transfer via USB flash drive, floppy disk or CD/DVD? JB.

You are very welcome. Yes install all your software first and test the system and see how it runs,if it runs great no need to upgrade anything. Yeah an upgrade is 32 bit to 32 bit. Let me know how she runs though as you appear to have a decent computer and I hope it all goes well for you. JB.

Ahhh Windows 7 64 bit. Then I would def go for the 4x2 gig RAM. Your computer you have now is running DDR2 and a good data speed. Your XP computer possibly was running SODIMM or just plain DDR at a slower speed include XP into that mix and the PC would not be as fast. Lets say as an example your Vista PC has 4 gig DDR2 and its speed is 800 mhz. Lets say as an example your XP PC had 4 gig of DDR 300 speed. See were I am going with this? Xp running on single channel lower speed and Vista running on dual channel a lot faster speed. Vista uses the RAM much better than XP. You bought from PCWorld? The ploy there is give wrong advice so you upgrade a computer and spend more cash in there stores. But the diffrence is you are running DDR2 dual channel RAM which is fast so you should see the diffrence in speed plus you have a quad core processor. The RAM doesnt just give you speed you have a quad core CPU which is like for single core processors in one. Sorry I am pratling on,just trying to say you now have a higher grade computer and it should be able to run your software with no issues with 4 gig.

All four slots are filled. Maynard is correct a 32 bit OS only reconises a certain amount of RAM. It only uses a certain amount.64 bit OS reconises a lot more RAM. But looking at the 4 gig you have already installed that realy should be enough and your computer should run fast and smooth. Your running a quad core also, your PC must be fast. Question is do you realy need 8 gig in there?

Upgrade from XP to Vista HP
Jelly Bean replied to dave56's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Dave you are very welcome,if you run into trouble let us know and we can see what we can do. Try the driver download and install first and hopefully you should be good to go. One more hint Dave I would run Vista on at least 1 gig RAM/Memory.If your computer can run 2 gig I would opt for that. JB. -

Here is a link I found earlier on how to use the Toshiba Disk recovery. http://uk.computers.toshiba-europe.com/innovation/faq.jsp?service=UK&from=faq_selection&CFID=Windows+Vista&FID=TIU0000003b52 Do not boot into recovery console via the F8 button we will use the disks. -

Get some DVDs and use Toshiba disk creator to burn the recovery console to disk. I am not sure how many disks you need but if more than one please number them as you insert them. If you burn recovery to disk you will always have the recovery console at hand to use. If boot into recovery console it can be used once only once and its gone.At least with disks you can re-use them. You still need to backup your data to D drive first. -
I am now looking on eBay for a card. Could you look in device manager and see what card you already have installed please?

Jelly Bean replied to tismehi's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Yes and no. You will have to backup all your data first before running recovery console.Or all data will be lost. Unless the following is true: Now some manufacturers split there hard drives into two one C contains your Vista OS the other is a slave for storage. In disk mang is there the ESIA,C drive and another? If there is another partition listed then you can move all your important data to the second partition. If no then you will have to backup all your data to another computer, disks, external hard drive. Can you check if you have recovery disk creator installed? If you do you can use that to burn the recovery console to DVD. -

How to check if you have a hidden partition: Click Sart/Control Panel/Classic View/Admin tools/Computer management/Disk managemnt under Storage. Is listed there EISA partition? If yes that is your hidden recovery partition. -
Yes the diffrence is the second one looks more like value RAM to me,the cheaper ended Kingston. That second one looks over priced to me. You need to stick to same speeds as already installed in your PC unless you plan to replace all the RAM and go for a faster speed. If you run crucial scanner we will get a better idea on what you need. Hey after 6 is fine. Compare prices on your links to prices on Amazon just as an example: Amazon.co.uk: ram - Electronics & Photo Note how cheap Kingston is? I would rather go for Corsair or OCZ RAM. Note the price of this Corsair 2x2 gig: Corsair - TWIN2X4096-6400C5 4 GB PC2-6400 DDRII-SDRAM: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo Cheaper than what you posted and a better brand. If you note the RAM has a case: OCZ OCZ2G8004GK 4 GB DDR2 PC2-6400 Dual Channel Memory: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics & Photo This is much better for more powerfull computers. It is heatsink RAM which will stay cooler and evenly distribut the heat. If funds are limited then Kingston/Crucial value Ram would do the job but I do not like to mix and match. Just a few examples and you can see the price diffrences.

Hello and welcome back. Open messenger and click on Messenger tab and choose Prefrences from the list in the drop downbox. Under general tab uncheck Show yahoo messenger insider and click apply. Sign out of messenger then sign back in that window will be gone. That should fix the window issue. Let me know how it goes. JB.

Hello there. Ok you do not say how many slots are already filled on the mainboard. Do you have 2x2 gig installed or 4x1 gig installed? I would asume you have two slots filled with 2 x 2 gig DDR2 and have two slots free? If the above is correct you only have reason then to buy a further 2x2 gig RAM. Use this scanner to give you more accurate reading: Memory upgrades from Crucial.com - About Crucial:Media Toolbox Post results please. Ok the diffrence in prices? You could go for Kingston value or a better branded and faster speed etc. However I do like to fit the same brand and speed of RAM into each slot rather than mix them. If you could give a little more information it would help.

Nope. I was thinking more of a 128 mb x8 AGP PCI card, not PCI E.Plus that card needs its own power supply to run so you could end up buy a newer PSU.Plus your processor is not upto par its older and slower. I am searching for a card maybe others can input as well.

Hello and welcome. I see the computer is a little older. I just found the system specs. You can add: Memory typeDDR Memory speedPC 3200/2700/2100/1600 Memory socketsTwo DDR DIMMs (184-pin) Maximum HP/Compaq approved memoryTwo x 512 MB DDR-DIMMS, 1024 MB total (1 GB) As this is an older computer you do not need to purchase memory from HP I would just buy Kingston value RAM/Memory from somewere like Amazon. Do not fit 1 gig stick you need to insert 2 x 512 mb of RAM/Memory. Your graphics card is: Graphics connector (AGP)AGP-8x So you would have to purchase a GPU that is PCI slot x 8 AGP and not higher like x16. I note the computer either runs win 95/98 or XP. Which operating system is your wifes computer running? If 95/98 I would personaly upgrade the RAM and install XP. As for the power supply I think you should be fine with it. Normaly we update the power supply due to fitting a high ended graphics card but as you will be fitting a lower grade less power consuming one I belive there is no reason to upgrade the PSU. If you intend to upgrade the GPU then you would be paying around £30 for a x 8 AGP card or even pay less. Here is your computer specs and other information: Motherboard Specifications, K8N8X-LA (Diablo) JB.

Ok do you have the hidden recovery console installed? Borrowing a disk off a friend may not match your COA key and you could run into problems. Without a disk we are a little stuck. You could possibly backup any data and do a system restore. I personaly would backup all my data and run the hidden recovery console so you are back to factory reset, nice fresh Vista. Some computer manufacturers give you the option to burn the hidden recovery console to disk which is a better option. Visat commands as in command prompt etc are pritty much the same as XP. What make and model is this laptop and lets see if we can sort you out.
