Belkin wireless network card probs
danzil replied to hypnosis75's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
lternativly disable the belkin software, and use the built in wireless configuration in your aoperating system....this is far easier and quicker to use in my opinion regards danzil -
do you have an xp cd,,, if so set your your PC to boot from it in the bios. when prompted press any key to boot from CD. When the "Welcome to XP Setup" screen appears, press R to start the Recovery Console. select your operating sytem usually press 1,,, When you are prompted to do so, type the Administrator password. If the administrator password is blank, just press ENTER. (usually is) At the Recovery Console command prompt, type the following lines, pressing ENTER after you type each line: md tmp cd system32 ren ntkrnlpa.exe ntkrnlpa.old ren ntoskrnl.exe ntoskrnl.old cd "c:\windows\driver cache\i386" expand sp2.cab -F:ntkrpamp.exe c:\windows\system32 expand sp2.cab -F:ntkrnlmp.exe c:\windows\system32 cd c:\windows\system32 ren ntkrpamp.exe ntkrnlpa.exe ren ntkrnlmp.exe ntoskrnl.exe type EXIT to leave the console... please not if you had service pack 3 installed, you will need to change the following on the below lines, change sp2.cab to sp3.cab expand sp2.cab -F:ntkrpamp.exe c:\windows\system32 expand sp2.cab -F:ntkrnlmp.exe c:\windows\system32 give that a try regards danzil

can you try one thing for me,, go into start>msconfig>then click the services tab, then click on enable all.then apply. let me know if you get an error message... you will be asked to reboot, i am wondering if you do indeed have a virus,,,i worked on a PC yesterday that no matter what i did i could not start 4-5 services, i tried in msconfig and got told i did not have permission.. turned out after a scan with NOD and malwarebytes she had a virus...after i removed it and did some tidying up all was fine.... i cant say this is the case for you but hey maybe worth a try.... regards danzil i will keep an eye on your post to see if i can help at all.

hi when buying the adaptor, please make sure you check the connection on the laptop hard drive first. you can buy an adapter that does both IDE and SATA (maybe best bet, or buy the one you need for your Hard Drive... there are bootable cd's you can download that will allow you to copy off any files (pictres, emails) you have on your hard drive and it is very simple. i use ercommander its free from microsoft and looks like xp when it loads, all you do is set your bios to boot from cd and oila. get it here http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;DisplayLang=en this cd also has tools to do a system restore, disk check etc, so you may find this very usefull. kind regards danzil :)

how long have you been using AVG, in my honest opinion AVG is not a suitable virus, firewall protection. i know its free but the software quality is just not there. may i suggest you download NOD32 from Antivirus and Antispyware Software - Download ESET NOD32 Antivirus or ESET Smart Security and eliminate viruses (30 day trial).uninstall avg, install nod32, update nod32 and do a full system scan. and then run malware bytes. i would also try and run from a command prompt "chkdsk /f /r" just incase you have bad sectors. locking up of a PC can be numerous things. overheating, virus, PSU, bad hard drive etc. i would then run Ccleaner to remove any junk and then run defraggler and defrag the drive. if i have missed something i am sorry, i have been up 36 hours. regards danzil :)

have you as suggested by jelly bean tried a system restore as yet..... what happen when you right click the yellow exclamation and then go to "update driver"then click on "install from a list or spefic location" then click "dont search, i will choose a driver to install", hopefully this will pick up your old driver if so highlight it then click on next. see if that works. i would suggest a system restore first. if you do get a driver listed please post back what it is. we can then direct you to the latest version of that driver regards danzil

this could be an issue with the size of the attachments.....have you tired compressing the files using winrar.......just install winrar highlight all the file you want to attach, then right click one of them and click "add to archive" then try attaching the rar file.... if that does not help please post back. regards danzil

Graphics card compatibal with my motherboard?
danzil replied to uncommoncarp's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
if you swap out those parts i recon you will 99% sure get a blue screen of death. microsofts os's check your hardwar on activation, when you change it all it will not like it one bit... if you want to put a new board in and cpu etc etc (how far you going?) then you may just need a new license key too. is this pc a home built or a manufacturered one.(sorry if my spelling sucks tonight, been in hospital).. you CANNOT swap a OEM pc parts and still expect to use the license key LEGALLY. you will need to purchase a new key....... regeards danzil :) -
i agree install service pack 3.......much much better for security, drivers, reliablity. post back after you have doen that.. just run windows update from start>all programmes, at the top you should see "windows update". regards danzil.:) ps try running the windows update in custom mode.then when it has scanned click on hardware, they may have an update for your card,,,,fingers crossed.

display on bootup,not at desktop
danzil replied to adrianmole's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
can you see POST post being the startup of your PC? Meaning the screen where it counts up your ram, checks your drives etc., and the XP (knight rider) bar gliding from left to right. if so i very much doubt it would be your monitor please confirm regards danzil :) -
if your hard drive is almost full taht will amount to the time it is taking. it has too scan all your files...70gb is a lot of files too scan. patience is a virtue so they say,,,,, i would be pretty annoyed waiting that lenght of time,. safe mode obviously is no good because it will not load all the relevant driver, startup entries etc.......run ccleaner as suggested, do a disk cleanup then defrag using Defraggler - Defragment your files! then give it another try. if it is still scanning then just leave it. dont interupt it at all.may want to start it before bed time then let it run......just unplug your ethernet cable or disconnect from the internet if your worried..... i would suggest letting it run through. and i would also suggest upgrading your hard drive. is this your main bootable os hard drive... bet its slow. regards danzil
-
additionally rename the file to .com or .bat then retry the install...you will have to untick "hide extensions for known file types" in folder options...you can get to this by loading my docs then tools>folder options. do you know the exact name of the rootkit. i have seen many false positive's on rootkit scanners and anti virus scanners. please post back regards danzil :)

have you had any luck as yet. regards danzil :)

Can't connect multi user on wireless
danzil replied to billybuster0's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
i kinda agree with jellybean... you may just be picking up another wireless connection. i do not think the workgroup settings would cause this, only sharing files or accessing a network resource will require a workgroup setting. or unless you are using ICS - internet connection sharing. regards danzil :) remove all saved connection in your wireless properties, then try again, make sure the SSID is the one for your router, and make sure the key is correct. -
i agree check safe mode first. at first glance it could be your graphics card has developed a fault....i have had this issue on a nvida 5900 card...turned out to be the ram chips.. obviously i cant say yours is the same. boot up into safe mode as previously suggested, by tapping f8 at startup choose safe mode... is it the same.... i very much doubt a graphics issue would be your hard drive. boot to safe mode then see what happen then please do ppost back. a few questions, have you installed anything lately, added any additonally software/hardware. etc. regards danzil :) edit reason = another question.....is your graphics card on board or a agp/pci card
