when you say the desktop is blank, do mean jsut the standard wallpaper, or do you mean a completely black screen. please clarify. please do as suggested with task manager.......do ctrl alt delete see if explorer.exe is running if so end task it then do as suggest start another task and type in explorer.exe regards danzil:) post back when you know.

i agree with tootech. sounds like you are both trying to dial up your connection which just wont work...... the 2nd user just needs to browse for wireless networks then click on connect,then add the key in and oila.... well in theory lol. let us know if we can help more. regards danzil :)

can you tell us the bios that it on that machine....jot it down when you post,,,,,turn on the pc ad it will say the make and version of bios....we should be able to ascertain the max RAM your machine can take.... you maybe lucky and there maybe a bios update for additional ram but dont hold your breath... do you know what socket the motherboard is at all.or rough age. regards danzil :)

Hi from when you turn the PC on and see your desktop, do you try to connect to the internet,.,,, Wolfey maybe right, if it is to do with all the programmes, devices etc loading at startup then that will cause this. try turning the pc on then leaving it for 10 minutes and re trying,,,,this may work, but also may not depending on the resources of your startup programmes. can you do this. go to start>run type in (no ") "msconfig" then click on the startup tab....note down what is ticked then post it back here......we can then tell you what to untick thus speeding up your load time. hope that helps a little... what is your isp, and the specs of your machine... regards danzil :)

hi you will not see a blue screen straight away...when in safe mode, pop the culprit cd/dvd in and see if it works,, if not hopefully it will not reboot or shut down, but freeze with a blue screen that has an error code on the bottom of it.....called a stop code.. a little information here for you.....yesterday i had to look at a pc with a similar issue...that when a dvd is played it would restart or shutdown....it turned out to be the IDE cable (flat ribbon cable connect the drive to the motherboard), go figure.....may be worth you trying that out....it was not the first thing i looked at after 2 hours lol. regards danzil i will keep an eye on this topic, see if we can get it squashed.:)

Hi there have you tried running a virus/malware scan. you may have an autorun/play virus. what anti virus do you use..... try an online scan if you are unsure. Free Virus Scan - Kaspersky Lab How many drives do you have, if you have more then one, does it do the same in the other.....are usb pens and the like functioning correctly regards danzil.

agreed. if the underneath does look clean of dust, try running it for a while on top f a couple of books. in other words rest it on them but not too the point of blocking the fans.... does it stay on for longer..... regards danzil

this will all depend on your graphics card at the end of the day. you can get a vga to scart or a vga to phono in most pc shops if not. thats if your that stuck regards danzil

that should of discharged ages ago i expect that it has, but the CPU is causing the problem,,, if it is dead can you borrow or obtain another cpu and pop that in and see if it post's regards danzil

they are not registry fixes. that is a small bat file that will re register any poorly dll.s in messenger. this will have ZERO adverse effects on a pc..because if the dll is register it will just carry on,,, its not unregistering them. that is what i try when i see this issue and 99% of the time it fixes it. that is my advice. the end user can do with it as they please like all my advice.....i am posting what i believe to be the fix NOTHING more. regards danzil no disrepct taken at all.

the drive will be located in (your desktop)\WDM_R227\wdm point the hardware wizard here and see what happens then. when you installed service pack 3 was it successfull no errors and the like. run this file to, it should say already installed (words to that effect). (your desktop)\MSHDQFE\ in there wil be a kb file....run that. this install the Universal Audio Architecture, this is basically a driver that your high definition device to function. if that installs without giving an error, try re running the setup.exe in the (your desktop)\WDM_R227 see if that works. regards danzil very difficult to diagnose without see-ing sound is a pain in the butt when not working.

i cant see it being a driver not loading until you are logged in.,,,but feel free to try.. USB keyboard should use a generic driver unless supplied with a cd. truning on legacy might cause it to kick start but i doubt that too . anyway give it all a try you just never know. regards danzil have you got to the login screen and tried changing usb ports...or even changing the keyboard full stop...let us know

Welcome to Future Systems Solutions that is the website for a programe called "Casper XP". this little tool will take a complete clone of your hard drive..... this means that if your original fails you can just boot from your external drive,,, or put the hard drive from the caddy intot he pc....you can then make another clone for your external... hope that makes sense. anyway the tool is great pretty fast...i cloned a jam packed 250gb in just short of 30 mins... this is all done inside windows too....there is a command line version too. hope that helps a little regards danzil

agreed try booting into safe mode tap f8 at startup of the machine then choose safe mode......if you can get in there, get your son to check event viewer>system for any noticable errors,,,to get to event viewer..right click my computer tehn left click on manage.......... also does your son have a vista cd/dvd if so try booting from it,,,then is a startup/repair function that tests your system and os....maybe worth a shot...... how clean is the laptop it may just be simply overheating........can he get to some compressed air and blow the underneath near the cpu fan.........DONT USE an air gun.... regards danzil

the 4 pin needs to be connected,,,, this is part of powering your board fully. can you obtain a spare CPU to check with....or a try your cpu in another board regards danzil

have you checked in msconfig>startup. is it in there. what is the name of the keygen, is it definalty a keygen or a keylogger. keygen is a small prog that genereates key for porgrammes, usually used in piracy. a keylogger logs your keys etc so a user can either spy, or find out what you are doing, for password reasons credit card details etc... have you ran malware scans and antivirus scans as yet...... need more information. regards danzil the name of the of up would be good
