  1. Hi Chaluka :) Welcome to Extreme Tech Support - Free PC Help. Congrats on your upcoming marriage. I also play the guitar from time to time, but I'm not that good and I mainly play just the melody to little kid songs (like Twinkle Twinkle Little Star) for my preschool class.
  2. So the laptop won't boot again.... tried F8.... nothing... continually start up shut down.... start up... shut down... not even the faint glow of a backlight on the computer screen. Unplugged it... removed the battery.... put the battery back... plugged it in... turned it on.... tapped F10... finally got the laptop to boot. Full desktop and all. We contacted HP and we are sending it back. If it's the motherboard/video card... we should be ok and they will repair it because they have extended the warrenty. If it's something else... well... I guess we're S.O.L. (sorry, outta luck ;) ) depending on how much it will cost to repair. Guys... when it rains it pours! :p
  3. Take all the time you need Steve. Write out or print the instructions and follow them exactly. Then as soon as you can.... reply back here and let us know how things went. We'll help you as much as we can every step of the way :)
  4. Second... you may need to completely uninstall Itunes, and reinstall it, instead of just updating Itunes.
  5. Hi bee keeper... my daughter has an Ipod (not a nano) but has had some issues with it. Try hooking the Ipod up to the computer... let Itunes find it like usual, and then in the Itunes window... select the option that allows you to restore the ipod to factory default. That may help. If you do not see that option in the Itunes start up menu, try clicking on the ipod name listed on the left of the Itunes screen. It should pull up some options. I don't have my daughter's ipod with me, so I can't get you any screen shots right now. But I will do my best to stick with you on this until we get it sorted out. :)
  6. Well.... yes and no Seth. According to the HP rep... and JEB... JEB was able to get into the bios and start up... which means it was posting. And so far the non-destructive system restore seems to have helped. Also we have been running ethernet instead of wireless now. But who knows what tomorrow will bring. And from what I've read... people with the HP6000 and 9000 series have had nothing but problems with them. I'm not sure I want another HP computer. :p
  7. Suuuuure Randy... post the remedy before I can :p :p :p
  8. I would suggest that instead of screensaver locks, everyone has their own user account. At my work place we have two computers for 12 teachers to share. Each of has our own user account set by name and employee number to start (after the initial log in... we can change our username and password for future log in's). Any information we enter into the agency system (i.e. student files) is time stamped along with our name. We must also be logged in to our own user account to access our work email. When we're done with the computer, we of course have to log out. This method is a safegaurd for the agency. If there are errors in the agency files... administration can tell who made the mistake, and contact them to correct it, which is handy for an agency that has teachers spreading over numerous cities, but yet need to be connected to the same agency network.

  17. According to what JEB read... HP has had trouble with the wireless cards and have thus extended warrenties on them by two years. If the problem continues.... we may contact HP. Also... the bios update seemed to help in that the cooling fan and the wireless run on similar frequencies. The update changed that just enough to help. My question is... even though all seems to be working ok (for now) .... would a faulty wireless card cause the start up, shut down, start up, shut down that JEB described? My thinking is that the card activates on boot up, but doesn't fully connect to the network until boot up is complete. If the card is sort of faulty would that prevent the computer from booting?
