  1. It just keeps getting better and better. Thanks for the gift. :):)
  2. You guys are the best ever. Because of you this IS the best birthday ever. This is the best group of people I could ever hope to spend my birthday with.
  3. adam take a look at this. It should help you access those files. How to take ownership of a file or a folder in Windows XP
  4. You're more then welcome.
  5. The interface is different in Vista. I used to like watching it work but that option is no longer available in Vista.
  6. Mara have you checked your manufacturers site for updates or patches? You probably have a version of Roxio that came bundled with your computer. Research suggest that your version may have come bundled with some Sony and HP computers and that it is related to WMP version 11. If so a patch may be available or a downgrade to WMP10 might also fix it.
  7. Excellent points Dalo and Goku. Some drivers can be extremely hard to find again. Especially if they are the computer manufacturers ones and they drop support for them. Updated drivers in particular. Backing them up to disk is always best just in case.
  8. Hi bayne; Unfortunately we are not in a position to analyze hijackthis logs at this time. Please endeavor to ascertain what mode you can boot into. There is normal mode and the 3 safemode options. Safemode, Safemode with networking and safemode with command prompt. These are the only options so it has to be one of those. Exactly how far does Windows boot in normal mode before you get the bsod? Do you get to the Windows logon? Does it happen after you choose the User logon?
  9. Hi Colette; We can try none the less. Post away and enjoy the free advice.
  10. I don't know why it runs slow. It seems you have way more then the needed minimal specs. for flight sim x. Minimum System Requirements Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista Processor: 1.0 Ghz RAM: Windows XP SP2 - 256MB, Windows Vista – 512MB Hard Drive: 14GB Video Card: 32MB DirectX 9 compatible Other: DX9 hardware compatibility and audio board with speakers and/or headphones Online/Multiplayer Requirements: 56.6 kbps or better for online play
  11. Anything Leo writes is worth a read. I must say that I agree with him on not updating drivers unless you have a problem or need to. There can be times it may go badly. Not often though.
  12. I would try a new or different drive Will.
  13. No problem Doug. We all learn from each other. That was my opinion but there may be others. But I'm sticking to what I know. :)
  14. Is this the drive and software? So many of these kinds of things come with software that I know nothing about. I wonder if this is a software issue of theirs and not a problem with the drive or your computer. I would be leary of some such software. This part concerns me. Simply unplug the JetFlash to lock, and plug it back to unlock. What if the flash drive fails? Is your computer locked due to the software and without the drive it stays locked? If it were me I would dump all the software and just use such a drive as a backup medium.
  15. To be honest Doug I never use or trust such things. I use a mix of programs to identify the devices then go to the manufacturers site to get them. Of course if you have a name brand computer with good support I suggest to download the drivers from them. It may not always be easy especially with unknown devices but with the help of google it can be done.
  16. I believe 127.0.0.1 is pointing right back to your computer not another website. Follow the guide to rid yourself of the infection. Make sure to update the programs first. If you can't link to them normally try to use Safemode with networking to download them. If you can't link to the programs sites or download them that way then use another computer and put them on disk. Then install from the disk. Also download the SuperAntispyware updates in case you can't update it online. Also download the Malwarebytes updates in case you can't update it online.
  17. I would venture to guess that you need to reinstall the drivers. The basic Windows ones. If that doesn't work your optical drive is probably failing. Uninstall the device from device mnager and reboot. This should prompt Windows to reinstall the drivers. The fact that you can read some CD's and not others leads me to believe that the drive has physicall damage and needs to be replaced. Your last post leads me to think the same thing.
  18. Are you getting any error codes? Have you checked for any problems in device manager? What burning software do you have? Have you looked at this thread for a possible fix? I was able to locate your model on the Acer PanAm site. However I didn't see any specific drivers for your DVD unit.
  19. Shut down. No question about it for me.
  20. I still don't understand. Version 4 or 5 is what is being offered for sale. They are not selling any older versions. If there is a version 2 it can not be purchased and is not supported. If it's liscensed to your friend you can not use it. Is this shareware and if so can you provide us with the link? Either way 2 is not offered or supported. At no point in your original post did you suggest that this was not a purchased program. As such I'm wondering why you have not contacted them for support. Have you contacted them and if not why?
  21. I don't see a version 2 or a way to downgrade. If you paid for version 5 that is what you have. Are you thinking of buying a different program from them?
  22. Why would you want or need too?
  23. I was hoping someone would say what I was thinking. Just because something is cool does not mean its good. Or even worse. Although I don't know this program loading superfluous things with no benifit should be thoroughly researched and tested first.
  24. I know what you mean Chris. I do it all the time too. Glad we could help.
  25. Do you have the kiwee toolbar? If so uninstall it before following the malware removal guide. For that matter uninstall all third party toolbars first. Also make sure you update those programs first even if you have just downloaded them.
