  1. As seth suggested this might be bad ram. Do as he suggested please and swap/remove/switch. It could also be a failing hard drive. You say you have experienced this problem before and took steps that fixed it. At some point you have to consider that this is unfixable unless you replace the hardware or uninstall software that may be causing this. Can you supply more information please?
  2. A hard question to answer caskin. It's most likely an over zealous zonearlarm reacting to a service or program that needs or wants internet access. Blackviper. You can always block it for now and see if everything still works. If not you can always unblock it.
  3. aah man. I didn't get to see it.
  4. You could try to reset IE7 advanced settings. Don't update to IE8 as it's still beta.
  5. I could be wrong too but I think you saw that on the Medion site not the pcworld site. Try the drivers from PCWorld ( TECHGUYS. ) not the drivers from Medion. Let us know how that goes. The deal is that some makers use proprietary hardware which needs specific drivers. So even though you have a Medion, PCWorld may have specific other parts installed that need a different driver. So use theirs instead. It still has to be the correct driver though for it to work.
  6. Happy Birthday JEB!!! Have one on me.
  7. I have seen a number of programs that will check for driver updates but they are not free or needed. Besides that updating drivers for no reason is not a good idea in my opinion. It might cause more harm then good.
  8. I can verify that I have no problem with accessing this site at the exact same times with my isp so it is not a problem with our server. So it must be a Virgin issue. It's a shame when isp or any other supports main interest is just getting you off the line instead of solving issues or promoting customer satisfaction.
  9. You should only need the correct drivers. If he doesn't have a driver CD that came with the computer then you just need to download the correct ones after the reinstall.
  10. For PC Worlds drivers start at the site that supports them. TECHGUYS. You might have to look in your Device Manager to see what you have first.
  11. Is it just me or is the font size almost impossible to read unless you are under thirty years of age? Not only can't I not see it well it causes me to miss vital information. I think the font and space should be increased so we can actually see what's being said. Since a 3 point is not an option I'll make the next sentence bold. This is better but not perfect. The field still needs to be wider. But at least I can see it without pressing my face to the monitor.
  12. You are quite welcome. Please feel free to help us out when you can. We appreciate any help you can offer the members.
  13. I have to express little knowledge on this. I can provide two links for now. Wikipedia definition. ExpressCard definition. Please be patient until someone can elaborate more on this. It's 6AM here and I need to get some sleep. I'll check back as soon as I can.
  14. Can you download the PDF manual and identify it for us please?
  15. Sorry but I think it's best to close this thread.
  16. If those are the options it's probably an exe file. If you choose save then you will still get an option as to where to save it.
  17. I'm confused Doug. What's the file type of the video you're burning to CD? An ISO is an image file. It's not a file type or movie format. I know nothing of Playstations but what is your old CD/DVD player? Is this a player you hook up to your TV or is it in another computer? Yes normally a CD or DVD needs to be finalized to ensure playback on other devices but the also need to bube burned in a format that other devices recognize.
  18. Hi Pinky. You have to look to where you are saving it when you save it no matter if it's a pic or anything else. For instance if you're saving a pic from a web page choose save picture as: In the box that opens up you'll see where it's being saved in the address bar. You can also choose a different location by picking or navigating a directory on the left side of the save picture: dialogue box. Nothing will open up and display it until you go to that location and open it up. It's the same with a program if you choose to save it. If you choose run it will download and install usually to the Programs folder. With email attachments you have to do the same as with pics. Since Open Office downloaded and installed it seems that function is working correctly.
  19. Hi cat; Are you now running just one AV? Since you uninstalled AVG are you still using two? You should only run one AV. Look at Sysinfo for a list of some startup items. One other thing. With Vista Home Premium you should really have 2 GB of RAM instead of 1 GB. Adding RAM in this case might help. Uninstall all but one AV and let us know if it boots or shuts down faster.
  20. Hello and welcome. The members and the team are all working together here. Glad to have you onboard. Feel free to post please.
  21. I'll vouch for that tutorial. It's great. It was the one that taught me. I couldn't have done it without it. A great place to start.
  22. Open your Pictures Folder. Click Tools then click Folder Options then click View. Uncheck Always show icons, never thumbnails. Click Apply. Click OK Good luck jake.
  23. That screaming sound is probably a fan. It's either failed or clogged with dirt. Overheating can cause the computer to shut down or reboot.
  24. Hi daventry; The first thing you need to do is uninstall all but one antivirus program. Running more then one real time AV at a time is bound to cause problems. I would dump AVG for sure.
  25. fluxx are you saying that these these programs including Windows are not obtained through the normal channels?
