  1. I have to admit I am totally confused here. You're computer that came with no OS now has XP installed. The first thing you did was install a game. You didn't update Windows first? You didn't install an AV first? Where did you say you got this computer? Where did you buy XP? Where did you buy this game? Once you installed this XP version did you also install the the drivers for this particular model? It seems to me that a a proper XP install and updates as well as security should be your first concern. Gaming is the least of your worries.
  2. It sounds to me like the hard drive is failing.
  3. Hi Ken; What exactly do you mean by backup disk? What is the size of the C and D partitions? What kind of files are these duplicates? What have you deleted from the C drive so far.
  4. If I'm not mistaken only a few settings can be changed with regions without reinstalling Windows. Since you do have a full retail version of XP that has never been used that's your best option. Forget about a LAN setup and get a CD drive that works. It's by far the best option and probably your only option that is even remotely practicable.
  5. As Goku said this is probably a remnant of the infection that is still being called up at startup. Of course the infection and program is gone so Windows can't find the file at startup. This file could be trying to load from Startup Programs or might be trying to load from the registry. Looking at the Startups in msconfig might help but more then likely it's a registry call up. Either way I would run the scans again and hope for the best. If that doesn't work our malware expert might advise you on HJT as an option. Seth if you need a HJT log please be very specific on each and every step from installation to running it to posting a log. It's very important this time. Thanks.
  6. An OEM disk is a recovery disk and is only meant to be used on the computer it came with. You will need a full retail version of XP.
  7. After installing Malwarebytes run the exe file for the latest database.
  8. You should also put the updates on disk. For SuperAntiSpyware updates and instructions on how to install.
  9. Since it used to work do what Wolfey said. Resetting IE will not only set the defaults but also remove any dubious IE add-ons. After that I would say you have a malware issue if the IE reset doesn't work. Either way do what Wolfey said first.
  10. What is the OE error Micky? OE is bundled with IE. Did you have IE7 before SP3? You may have to uninstall SP3. Then uninstall IE7. Then reinstall SP3.
  11. Look at this Microsoft article too.
  12. Try registering these components. Type each one in the Run box. Click OK. One at a time of course. regsvr32 wuapi.dll regsvr32 wuaueng.dll regsvr32 atl.dll regsvr32 wucltui.dll regsvr32 wups.dll
  13. Since you recently reinstalled XP have you installed the Service Packs yet? Maybe that might help.
  14. OK it's a PS2 keyboard and it is working. You pulled the battery out so unless your setup has a BIOS password set by default you should have to enable a password once you're in the BIOS. Have you tried hitting the Enter key without putting in a password?
  15. <img src="insert url of image here" ALIGN="RIGHT"> That code will put the picture on the right side. The > closes the tag. The text can then be added and it will appear on the left. (you don't need to use capital letters) If you want to add more content below the picture and text you first need to clear the text and picture using this code; <br clear="all"> To really get a hold on layouts in pure HTML you'll need to learn how to use Tables. Good luck Goku.
  16. Tattsyrup you are really confusing us. Can you start at the beginning please? Please be very specific. As near as I can tell you originally had two SATA drives. Remove all the drives but one. Set the boot order in the BIOS to CD first. Reinstall Windows via the XP full disk on that drive. We can take it from there. It does make no sense that EIDE is showing SATA. That's impossible. It makes me wonder too if you are trying to hook up a drive that already has XP on it and expect it to boot from that drive. What does it say on your XP install disks?
  17. Hello. Glad you joined. Maybe we can help.
  18. Congratulations. A proud time indeed.
  19. To insert image code use <img src="insert url of image here"> But of course it gets more complicated positioning the image.
  20. Try and configure the Windows updates from Windows Updates in the Control Panel instead of the Security Center.
  21. Online gambling (and other types such as phone bets) outside the laws of the U.S. and individual state laws has always been illegal. Some years back the laws were tightened up because of the internet and to make it clear. However this fails to stop many people. The government loses tax revenue. Recently though sites have been shut down and users prosecuted so never think the web protects you. Also there is no real regulating oversight. My concern though is different. These online poker sites etc have often required the installation of dubious software that contains at the very least Spyware and often times much more. I've cleaned too many systems with this kind of software installed after it royally messed up computers.
  22. Other countries were buying up game technology decades ago because it was better then their own. I guess even the U.S. is behind private companies in some areas now.
  23. That's great scotty. Who knows why Microsofts settings change by themselves but they sometimes do that. But you're right if you don't use a proxy and that is set it would block you. Thanks for letting us know. We really appreciate it.
  24. F8 should get you there. Keep tapping it until you see the options and then use the arrow keys to highlite safe mode. Then press enter.
  25. Maybe this is an issue with ZoneAlarm. Have you updated to the latest version to see if that fixes it? Read more.
