  1. Hi lorenzo. You probably saw this page already. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2022778 Try the "Fix this problem" link there. If that doesn't do it a system restore might fix it. Do you know how to do that?
  2. I had a look inside Nev. It's nothing like a PC burner. It has 4 some kind of ribbons coming from somewhere inside the drive through the under side of the burner. The connectors to the unit are soft. I managed to rip them off the unit by accident but was able to reconnect them. So I'm back to having a dvd player. It was worth a try. My advice to anyone who has a dvd recorder is to save your old vcr's and maybe latch on to any you find. This way you can use them as a tuner for the new tunerless dvd recorders and record TV programs. Of course there will be no timer function though. I still have 3 functional vcr's and plenty of tapes so for now I'll use those. I refuse to pay extra for a dvr service untill I absolutely have to. I suppose the cable and satellite companies love the new laws. It surely fills their coffers.
  3. Maybe I should have a look inside. I could probably use it as a tuner for a dvd recorder but what a mess. As it stands now I can't even burn my camcorder movies to dvd since I don't have a recorder. My camcorder uses RCA cables to transfer.
  4. After a full day and night of shopping and researching here in the USA I'm exhausted and not happy. I am old though. Remember the good old days when all you had to do to record your TV program to watch later on VHS? (Or BETA even) Well those days are gone. I have 2 VCR's and 1 DVD/VCR that I can record on. Unfortunately the DVD side of the latter no longer can record. It can read disks. So I thought I could just go out and buy a new DVD recorder to record my programs on DVD just like my last unit through a straight coaxial connection. This is no longer possible. They don't make DVD recorders with a tuner like they did with the old VCR's any more. Now if you want to record on a DVD recorder you have to have a set top tuner. This means you have to have a DVR or a HD tuner/converter. There is no coaxial cable input in recorders these days so even recording in standard format is not an option. With cable or satellite providers for a TV service this means you have to pay a monthly charge for those. There is no option to buy one outright without a service plan. With 4 TV's this amounts to about $45 to $85 a month depending on who you go with. With TWC I'm already paying about $80 a month for just a standard format raw cable feed. No HD. No DVR. No Tuners. It does not matter if I choose Direct TV or Dish Network once you figure in the all the hidden charges after the initial buy in period the price goes up. All I wanted was the low end TWC package with 67 channels which used to be 75 chanels in standard non-HD format which I could record for everyday watching. Not even HD. But now since you can't buy a VCR anymore it seems I have to buy in to multiple tuners through the providers which includes a monthly charge for the rest of your life. It seems I can't record free TV on 2 TV's in standard format anymore unless I want to double my original price like I used to be able to do in the good old days of VCR. I'm not willing to pay 3 months income just to record old "I love Lucy" episodes etc. I think the providers fooled the FCC to increase profits pleading copyright protection. I'm mad as hell.
  5. Try putting the songs back on the computer then transfer to the new ipod. You'll need itunes on the computer. After syncing the computer and device open the ipod device in a new window seperate from the PC itunes window. Drag and drop.
  6. Hi H20. Can you please explain how you are trying to save? Are you using "add to favorites" with the toolbar? Are you using the Ctrl-D keys on your keyboard? Is this IE? Do you have a link to what you are trying to save?
  7. That's great Jim. If someone resizes your windows you may have to do it again so save the instructions.
  8. Hi fmoejr. At the current exchange rate 5 GBP is about 8 US dollars.
  9. It appears you got there in the end. That's what matters. Using properties sets the windows size for that particular icon shortcut. Normal is the default setting. What you set it at is what size it will remember to open the next time. The method I prescribed causes all windows to open maximized no matter what shortcut you use. Anyway if your happy I'm happy.
  10. Isn't that what you want? I'm a little confused here. When I said "Open IE. Make sure it is not maximized." I meant that you should make sure that the little box between the _ and the X is not set to maximize before dragging the window larger.
  11. Jim in the first window go to a site that has links. If you right click a link you will get the option to "Open in new window". This will get you two open windows.
  12. Hi Jim. Let me see if I can remember how to do this. Open IE. Make sure it is not maximized. Use your mouse to drag the edges or the corner to make it full size. Do not close the window. Open a second window by using an IE shortcut or by right clicking a link and open in new window. Use your mouse to drag the edges or the corner to make it full size. Now click maximized in this second window. Do not close this window yet. Go back to the first window. Now click maximized in this first window. Close the first window. Close the second window. I hope I got the correct order here. Open IE.
  13. Sounds familiar PEV. Was that you I replied to before? Most likely it's just targeted ads based on your browsing history. Deleting your temporary internet files and cookies will clear it up. You should do this on a regular basis anyway. I do it several times a day. Go to Internet options to delete your browsing history in Internet Explorer.
  14. I think that's your problem then. There are no 64 bit drivers. As for the computer it was working on go to device manager and look for the option to roll back the drivers.
  15. Jim some of those Studio One's shipped with Vista 64 bit. The only available drivers for Vista are for 32 bit. Is there any chance that one of those Vista machines is 32 bit and the other 64 bit?
  16. Since this may be related to uninstalling or installing software do a system restore to before you uninstalled Norton. If that fixes it uninstall Norton using their removal tool.
  17. I assume you have the minimum specs needed which are really low. Windows 98/ME/2000/XP Graphics card: 32MB 3D graphics card System Memory: 256 MB Processor: 500 Mhz Pentium III or faster Free Hard Disc Space: 1.6 GB DIRECTX 9 or higher Sound Card: DX compatible
  18. It's probably because you need the drivers which can be found here. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/SoftwareIndex.jsp?lang=en&cc=uk&prodNameId=3357378&prodTypeId=321957&prodSeriesId=3357377&swLang=13&taskId=135&swEnvOID=1093 This is unusual though for HP/Compaq as they are normally on the recovery disks supplied or the ones you make. Further you state you have XP Home but but the only XP version that this computer shipped with is XP Professional.
  19. Floppy disks always were unreliable. Either the disks are bad or your floppy drive is bad. Both could cause that message. If you can write to other disks then you know the drive is ok.
  20. Sorry about that Joe. It's just that we are becoming a little concerned that some of your problems might be related. That's why I thought it might be best to stick with one issue at a time. Unless of course you think they might be related in which case it would be best to keep them in the same thread. You are more then welcome here Joe. Joe if I remember right Windows 7 by default does not show Documents on the desktop. If you look carefully you may see an arrow on the icon which would indicate that it's a shortcut to the actual folder. Also Propertis should show that. Was Kens post helpful? You didn't say. What else did Propertis say about the folders? Location etc. You didn't say. Joe we really want to help but we need as much information as you can give us please.
  21. Yes Joe how can this be? Windows 7 uses the "Documents" folder not "My Documents". The last OS to use "My Documents" was XP. Files? Don't you mean folders? What are each of the locations? What does the Properties say about them? Do you have Folder options set to show hidden files and folders? Is there more then one User Account? Are you an Admin User? Do you have a lot of threads going on here? Would you like to solve any particular problem first before moving on to a different problem?
  22. Recovery disks only work with the same model series as you found out. You did the right thing because if Sony still has some they are a lot cheaper then a full OS disk. If they don't then you will need an XP Pro disk. No other options I'm afraid.
  23. Darik's Boot And Nuke Darik's Boot and Nuke ("DBAN") is a self-contained boot disk that securely wipes the hard disks of most computers. DBAN will automatically and completely delete the contents of any hard disk that it can detect, which makes it an appropriate utility for bulk or emergency data destruction. DBAN is a means of ensuring due diligence in computer recycling, a way of preventing identity theft if you want to sell a computer, and a good way to totally clean a Microsoft Windows installation of viruses and spyware. You haven't cleaned your hard drive. You completely wiped it. It's blank. You're going to need an XP Pro disk.
  24. I think he means to back up the data on the removable drive. You can back it up to your main drive C: or to DVD. The point is just in case you might lose something when converting to the NTFS format.
  25. http://impimg.free.fr/zimbra/tuto.html may shed some light for IMAP. Like I said you'll have to search.
