  1. Very strange. Well there's good news and bad news. The bad news is that I updated and now get the error message that my song can't be found. I only have one song in my library. :) The good news is that now I can play with possible solutions.
  2. Hi nuley. Try a search for the files using Windows. Maybe we can find them. Start>Search-type mp3-click See more results-click Computer. This will search all drives. Do you see any of the mp3 files? If so right click the file and select Properties. Note the Location. It will give the path to the folder it's in. If you just want to search your G drive Start>Search-type mp3-click See more results-click Computer-click Custom-expand Computer-Select drive G-click OK If still no luck check to see if the mp3 files are hidden in a folder somewhere. Go to the Control Panel>Folder options. Click View. Select to show hidden files, folders and drives. Apply>OK. Run the search again. If found right click the files and unhide the files.
  3. Good deal. I'm glad that's all it was. You thought that might be the problem and you were right.
  4. I am failing to understand many points of this thread. Your original thread title is "How to create a remote network administrator??". We answered that you can't with your OS without third party software which requires permission. Through out this thread it is apparent that you want to do so withought anyone knowing you have Administrator priviledges over another machine. As Synapse pointed out we will not offer ANY advice if we think that is the intention. These machines or not set up on a server such as what you would find in a business environment so there is really no point in doing ANYTHING like you want to do. Even attempting to do so would result in disaterous results unless done so by a trained IT tech. Your last post indicates that you are still intent on doing so and want to know exactly how much you can do and wish to glean knowledge on how to do it. Normally we would offer warning advice on what some things can do in order for someone to protect themselves. However in this case I feel we would be helping to do the opposite. Instead we would be helping you spy or take over another computer without their knowledge. We are not about to help you do exactly what we strive to do which is help protect people from what you want to do. Although in the context of your last post it seems to be just a straight forward question about security I don't believe it is. In the context of the entire thread it just seems you want to know how much spying you can actually do and hope to gain some insight by our answers. As Synapse pointed out no reputable forum would help with this. That includes us. You may protest but I think it's clear to everyone.
  5. Hi mercycle. At least safemode is working. That's good. Safemode only loads the bare essentials for Windows to run. It doesn't load software that's been added usually. Although some programs can be used in safemode if called upon. As such AVG won't be started in safemode. Since you just changed to AVG this may indeed be the problem. I've seen AVG cause a lot of problems on some computers. You could try disabling AVG but I would do a complete uninstall. The best way to uninstall is to use the AVG Remover tool. Here is the link. http://www.avg.com/us-en/utilities If that solves the problem then I would suggest a different and better antivirus. We have some excellent free alternatives we can suggest if you wish.
  6. I agree. That would be unethical.
  7. It's not uncommon for any file or data to become corrupted. Hard drives can get bad sectors for instance. A user profile may contain millions of bytes. If one little byte goes missing Windows may or may not be able to recover it. Yes it could be a failing drive. More likely though is that you just got unlucky.
  8. Hi. This sounds like your user profile got corrupted and Windows has created a temporary profile. You could try creating a new user profile then copy everything over to it. Have a look at this Microsoft article. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/fix-a-corrupted-user-profile
  9. I might add a couple things. The Startup Guide Manual (Epson Stylus SX445W) seems to indicate that you should not connect the USB until prompted to do so during the installation. Try doing that after you select to install via USB versus the wireless installation. I have had trouble reinstalling Epson software a few times when it was setup incorrectly. You may need to completely remove all the Epson setup components first. If so uninstall via Programs and features. Go to Devices and printers. Right click the Epson printer and select remove. Navigate to where it was installed (probably in C:\Program Files.......) and delete the files and folders associated with it. Insert the disk to start the installion. When prompted choose USB installation instead of WiFi installation. Plug in the USB when prompted. I hope this helps.
  10. For one thing you can't. There will always be one Administrator account in Vista or 7. For another thing you're not going to be able to change security policy settings in the home premium version of 7 to do what you want across a domain. It doesn't exist in home premium 7.
  11. Is this a ML-2165W/XAA? If so check out the video found here. Wireless Printer Setup via Driver for PC http://www.samsung.com/us/support/owners/product/ML-2165W/XAA
  12. Is this a CLX-2160n? If so you might find something in the manual, section 4. http://downloadcenter.samsung.com/content/UM/200812/20081215154056890/Guide_EN.pdf
  13. Hi Ray. Ending processes or applications via task manager is safe. Processes are set to automatic, manual or disabled. What they are set as will determine whether or not they run at bootup or when called upon by an application. Stopping them via task manager is just temporary. I don't know about your freeze problem but someone may ask how much RAM you have. I see you have XP. Try pressing ctrl alt and delete twice to restart your PC.
  14. Just trying to make your job easier Ken so you have more time to do the really hard stuff. :)
  15. That's great. It was your high resolution picture that gave me the clue. Not only did the icon look familiar but when I magnified the picture the number 9 was clearly visible. Glad we could you.
  16. If you buy a new computer it will have Windows 7 so you will need to download Windows Live Mail. Windows Mail was for Vista only. The two are compatible. I exported my mail in Windows Live Mail and it saved everything including the folder structure. One thing though. Both mail programs use the Windows Contacts instead of an address book like Outlook or Outlook Express did. So you might need to save those too. It depends on how they do the backup or what they export.
  17. Hi Jim. I'll take a guess. This might be part of the Dell Quickset software. Perhaps your NumLock. Try pressing the NumLock key on your keyboard.
  18. Hi Dan. Open Windows Mail and click Import on the File menu. You may need to press the Alt key to see File. Once you select Import follow the wizard. You will need to navigate to the exported mail backup on the usb stick while following the wizard.
  19. http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?&docid=DSN_336966&isLegacy=true#Issue3 Note step 3, line 4. "Specify the language settings that you want, and then click Next."
  20. joddle if I remember right Windows comes with most languages. When installing you will be promped as to which language you want to use. Simply choose the language. If they are the same computers then the Dell recovery disks should give you the option as far as I know. You might want to try a virus clean up. We do have some excellent security experts here.
  21. PEV that is strange. I understand your frustration. It may be time to order those disks from HP for a nominal fee if they still have any available. They are only about $20 US. I can't check or link you directly because I'm unsure of your model but start by Support and drivers at this link and see if it is an option. http://www8.hp.com/uk/en/support-drivers.html I'm sorry but support options and recovery disk options may be different in the UK then they are in the USA. What is your model number? Perhaps we can look in to more.
  22. I think Vr5fx gave an an excellent reply. It's not easy. You googled it. You found nothing. As noted it's a laptop. Without having it here it's hard to advise. This is a specific question to a laptop model. Compaq/HP does have free online chat support as well as some documentation. Have you tried that option? As far as providing video links goes goes I really doubt we can do better then Google. We are not a search engine. The only thing we can do do is try to duplicate your search. Seriously you got an old machine. Just use use it. If you want to rebuild them then you need to learn how by taking courses. I don't mean to be short but we are here to offer help with problems. Take the advice of Vr5fx. Take it in to a shop or buy new. It's not a job for a novice.
  23. I think your best bet is to just replace the optical drive.
  24. That's good to hear. I'm glad you had what you needed.
