1. Vr5fx has closed this thread and I for one agree. He is a gamer and and we all agree. Good luck but I think it's pointless to continue.
2. Buy a new computer is my point. Even in China you can't get the components to do what you want with this system without a total rebuild. The advice given so far by everyone says give it up. The case, fans and optical drives are the the only things you can salvage so what is the point in trying to upgrade components? Write it off and buy a new computer. Or do this: New MOBO. New CPU to go with that MOBO. New RAM to go with that MOBO. Better Video card. Bigger PSU. As I said before. If you are not willing to do all of the above then we can not help. You can not rebuild a cheap computer for a few dollars. Case closed.
3. My thoughts on this is it's a waste of money. Windows 8 minimum requirements are; RAM 1 gigabyte (GB) (32-bit) or 2 GB (64-bit) Now any time Microsoft lists the minimums it's a safe bet you will need to double it just for ordinary computing. So even if you have a 32 bit system your maxed out in my opinion. This leaves little or no RAM for even ordinary gaming. And you can't add RAM. This is your biggest hurdle. That card is best suited for home theater not gaming. You will need an upgraded PSU. Your CPU is OK but not great so that will affect things too. Best bet; New MOBO. New CPU to go with that MOBO. New RAM to go with that MOBO. Better Video card. Bigger PSU. I almost forgot. With a new MOBO you will need to reinstall Windows. If all you have are recovery disks then you will need to purchase the full Windows 8 too.
4. Normally a clicking sound is likely to be the hard drive not an optical drive. If however you are sure the sound is coming from the optical drive disconnect the power and data cable. I have seen a faulty DVD/CD drive prevent a computer from booting into Windows even though it was not the first drive in the boot order. Strange but true.
5. Merry Merry Christmas to you too Yockie. It's a joy to have you as a member. Very nice picture in your post. It's always good to see you and the rest of the staff and members will surely feel the same. Bless you.
6. It could be even easier. GoDaddy is a domain registar that offers web hosting or email hosting too. Not only is the price better but you get more storage. It is ad free. $3.49 for unlimited. 10 addresses Unlimited storage Mobile access for smartphones, iPhone®, Blackberry® and Android™ Choices for emails that work with Outlook are POP3 and IMAP. If you are going to set it up on more then one computer or want to access it via the web at the same time you should use the IMAP option. I'm not saying it is the best solution for your business but it is an option if it fits your needs. Check out the link and have a look.
7. As usual your humor and wit far surpasses mine once again. Nice Santa gif file you added too. By never reading my posts you mean always. :D Merry Christmas bud.
8. Gee whizz KenB. Don't you ever read my posts? :D Windows Defender and MSE
9. Movie Maker is a huge resource hog so adding memory might help. Also update your graphics drivers. Minimum system requirements are as follows and with a file size that big you will probably need even more RAM. Memory: 1 GB of RAM (2 GB of RAM or higher is recommended when editing HD (high-definition) video) Processor: 2.4 GHz (single processor) or higher (a dual-core processor or higher is recommended when editing HD video
10. SYNAPSE COULD NOT HAVE DONE BETTER. MERRY cHRISTMAS.
11. Merry Christmas to all. Just like every year we are ill but that is not stopping us. We are still wishing peace on earth and good will toward men. I love Christmas and I love you all.
12. Windows Movie Maker can split and trim video. You can only save the movie as wmv. The XP version may not be able to handle all types of mpeg files though. What kind of files can I use in Movie Maker? File formats supported by Windows Movie Maker in Windows XP
13. And I can't even get my grandsons yellow symbol to work on a drumset. (Xbox) Yeah Yeah I know. Start a new thread. :) Watching this thread for clues. :)
14. Windows Defender and MSE I recently came across this while on the phone with a relative who just purchased a Windows 8 computer. She wanted an antivirus program so I suggested MS Essentials (Microsoft Security Essentials). I forgot that in Windows 8 that MS Essentials is now combined with Windows Defender. In previous versions of Windows Defender was just an antispyware program. In Windows 8 Defender is both. Defender is preinstalled with all versions of Windows 8 which is good. It's also turned on by default which is good. However if you purchase a OEM machine there is a good chance that it came with a third party trial version antivirus program installed and running. Manufacturers get paid to do this. If a third party AV is installed Windows Defender will turn itself off. This is not a problem by itself. In her case Norton trial version was installed. You can not turn on Defender in such a case. There was not even an option to be seen to turn it on. Norton had to be uninstalled first. After uninstalling Norton you would think that Defender would have turned itself on just like it turned itself off. Think again. Defender needed to be turned back on manually. The option to turn on was there after the Norton uninstall. So don't find yourself unprotected by accident. Turn on Defender if you uninstall any other AV. One thing that might also be prudent if you are upgrading to Windows 8 is to uninstall MS Essentials before the upgrade.
15. As usual I can't find Packard Bells specs for either of those models. As usual the Packard Bells support site is extremely slow. However data transfer is fast with USB2 and 5 to 10 times faster with USB3. USB3 can also send and receive data simultaneously at 5 to 10 times faster then USB2. You might get 10GB to transfer in 5 minutes or better. So if that is fast enough for you then you can swap USB3 for the USB2 or get a USB3 card. The added advantage is that an external drive won't power up and wear out unless it is plugged in all the time. Just a thought.
16. It seems you can get Blue-Ray burners but..... Can you even utilize Blue-Ray disks? To watch Blue-Ray movies on your PC and get the full effect your hardware will need to be good. A good graphics card and monitor for instance. As far as a storage medium CD's or DVD's are a lot cheaper and the write speed will be better. Depending on the specs of your PB laptop will tell you more if you can even add a combo drive. Chances are with a laptop a DVD/CD with a Blue-Ray Player combo might be your only option. If you are lucky. Laptops don't lend themselves to upgrades readily. Not every combination will be compatable for a variety of reasons. Prices vary but you get what you pay for. External models will probably be slower. Again it matters on your entire system specs. There are so many factors to consider whether or not you just want to add a Blu-Ray player or burner. There are a few laptops that will offer the burner built in. I'm sure they will be higher end models as the laptop would need better hardware then low end laptops.
17. It's all yours etavares. Good luck my friend.
18. You're right. Since one is XP you will need to use Workgroup. You will also need to make sure that both workgroups have the same name. In 7 the name is WORKGROUP. In XP the name is MSHOME. Change the XP name to WORKGROUP. You will also need to edit sharing, security and security advanced to add EVERYONE to the list of permissions on the folders you want to share. And if you have an AV suite that manages networks it may over ride your settings. It's a real nightmare. Here are three links to get you started. Keep in mind though you will also need to change the security settings to EVERYONE not just the sharing settings. Most articles fail to include the folder security and sharing settings. You will need to right click and select properties to do this. http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-7/share-files-and-printers-between-windows-7-and-xp/ http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/15247/complete-guide-to-networking-windows-7-with-xp-and-vista/ http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Networking-home-computers-running-different-versions-of-Windows
19. Please wait for etaveres before doing anything. I'm just adding information. etavares I'm assuming this is IE8 since it is XP and he has the search bar. Even if there is no populated list when clicking the down arrow in the search bar there should still be the other options such as Find on this page... Find more providers... and Manage search providers. I assume this means there are no search providers not just no default search provider. I also assume when he says add one he means he clicked on Find more search providers which should bring up this page. http://www.iegallery.com/en-us/addons?callback=true&featuretype=2 (region specific) which produces no page or a blank page. He didn't say. Of course he might have meant when he clicked on a search provider on that page he got the the error. Unclear. I would have thought the IE reset would have done it but he may need to check the Delete Personal Settings checkbox. With a complete reset the original search options should be there. Or maybe try IE without addons option. Here are some pics. .
20. I'm in the USA so I can't comment on the UK services. Over here they either charge you a flat fee or a monthly fee. Recently Time Warner Cable went from a free modem to a monthly charge. I'm with Windstream. Unless you have whole house service replacement for anything that goes wrong with telephone lines or equipment inside or outside the house they charge about that price for a modem after the first one they supply. This means the first one is free. After that you have to pay for replacements. This is fine if it lasts but I have had them fail due to being crappy and lightening strikes. However with my plan they get replaced for free along with anything else but I do pay a charge for that service. I can get my own modem but my provider will not offer support on setting it up or trouble shooting. Considering that the price of the modems is about the same either way I just go for the Speedstream modem my provider supports. At the price you listed it's not a bad price for a modem in my opinion. But I am talking only from my personal experience in the USA. I assume if you use their modem they will offer tech support for it. I don't know if your provider is offering you a modem/router combination. Mine does but I won't use it because Windstreams provided modem/router combination does not support WPA2 security. How sad is that? I'm sure the UK members can advise you on this more then me.
21. That's great. Yes that could explain it. You had very little memory which standby needs. A lot of startup items could have been using most of that. I'm glad you figured it out Airborne. Thanks for letting us know.
22. It's probably beacause the format is AVCHD. What is the model and number of your panasonic recorder? Knowing this will probably give us a manual and options. Typically this format can be used by stand alone DVD recorders to make a disk you can use on your TV or computer just like a DVD you would buy at a store. You would probably need the proper cable to connect your camcorder to a DVD recorder. Often times this would mean one end is USB and the other 2 or 3 AV inputs or a DVI input. if you only have a USB to USB cable the DVD recorder would need a USB input. For transfering to a computer your camcorder would still need to be connected. Probably by a USB connector on both ends. You should have got a CD with software on it. Possibly Video Cam Suite 3.5. If your camcorder came with that software install it then update it. If your camcorder came with that software view this tutorial. http://www2.panasonic.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/vSupportHowToGuideDetail?storeId=15001&idval=UCM_STG_CNT_050938&catname=Hi-Def+Camcorders&title=How+to+Import+Videos+Using+Video+Cam+Suite+3.5&cm_sp=HDC-SD40K-Support+HowToGuide-_-Middle-_-How+to+Import+Videos+Using+Video+Cam+Suite+3.5
