I tried my yahoo mail with IE and Firefox and had no problem. I couldn't find any browser settings in IE and Firefox that would cause this either. And lastly I didn't see any Yahoo mail options that might cause this. As this is recent and two different machines it must be something you installed on both. Software or malware. Have you installed anything lately? Any chance you use both machines for something that might have let malware through?

So all the open programs and open Windows close but the computer does not shut down or restart. I guess this rules out heat issues. I see you are torrenting. In spite of the fact you ran some excellent programs and they came back clean this does not mean you are clean of infections or corruption. I don't know why you say reinstalling is not an option. Since torrents are a major source of issues then the first thing you should do is make darn sure reinstalling is an option. You could try deleting all files and uninstalling all programs obtained by utorrent etc. but even then corruption may remain. It's a risk one takes since this is a common way to really screw up a computer. Seriously in my opinion if you are torrenting you should reinstall Windows but do not torrent in the future. Anything obtained by such will likely result in major issues.

If you previously deleted files then emptied the bin the files are actually still there but renamed. Eventually that area will be rewritten. There are many data recovery programs that may find them. Even after a reinstall some data recovery programs will still find some files. When I delete temp files or sensitive files I don't use the recycle bin. I use a program that shreds them many times over. Many of these programs will even overwrite the area after. A reinstall will keep all but the most persistent from reclaiming anything. There are also programs that will completely wipe the drive. For future reference look at something like CCleaner to delete files, temp files, history, cookies etc. You can set it to make up to 35 passes when shredding. 7 passes will be much faster. There are others of course.

Printer not working
RandyL replied to Elisabeth Dunnicliff's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I'm guessing you are using IE9. Try using the 32 bit version of IE if you are using the 64 bit version. Here are a few links to try. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/303486 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2652062 You could also try uninstalling IE9 so that you can try printing in IE8. http://www.uniquetipsonline.com/how-to-uninstall-internet-explorer-9-from-windows-vista-and-windows-7/ -
You might have to combine them into one single file. What format or file type are the programs?

Links won't open in Outlook 2007
RandyL replied to gilliana's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi gilliana. Try the Fix it button on this kb/310049 page. It sounds like your issue and it does include Outlook 2007. Hyperlinks are not working in Outlook -
I would be cautious with drive D. It seems a little large but it could be a recovery partition. With some brands the partition is not hidden but the files and folders inside are hidden. If that's the case then viewing the properties of the drive will show the full size of the files and folders. However if you explore the files you will only see a few small files. HP and Compaq do this for instance.

Cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook
RandyL replied to crl's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Why the last post by csopiface? The fix csopiface posted is for an issue that already is solved. The fix csopiface posted will cause a loss of all customizations in the Navigation Pane. Why didn't you post a warning about that csopiface? I think that csopiface doesn't have a clue about this issue. I think he just took an opportunity to post a link to a substandard forum. It's called forum spam. -
Sunday November 11th is Veterans Day in the U.S.A. As usual I would like to pay tribute to those who served the cause of freedom by serving in the military even though I never did. For everyone everywhere who values the sacrifices made by those who cherish freedom and liberty I would ask only that you take A Pittance of Time to view this video and reflect on all those who gave so much for all of us. I thank you.

A sticking, stuttering wireless mouse.
RandyL replied to NormanG's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Try a wired or PS2 mouse. Does that work OK? -
Another easy way to see if it's an IE setting is to try Firefox if you don't want to do an IE re-set.
-
An adblocker program perhaps. No Flashplayer installed maybe. It could even be a Hosts file.

A sticking, stuttering wireless mouse.
RandyL replied to NormanG's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Norman. So the mouse is slow to react at times. (for lack of a better description). There are a lot of things possible here. I don't know what is running on your PC or your system specs but I will list a few possibilities. 1. Your mouse is failing or needs batteries. Try a wired or PS2 mouse. Does that work OK? 2. Interference with the signal. Move the mouse receiver to a different port or try the mouse in a slightly different location. 3. RAM or memory. If you have a RAM issue you system could be struggling to keep up. This could cause a lag. If your system is also slow to open other things like documents or control panel that would indicate RAM. Also a slower boot up or other programs slow to start. 4. Your system may be taxed. Even if you have good RAM and have a lot there might be something running that is using a lot of it even if you are unaware of it. Have you installed any software recently? 5. Malware could be runnning that is taxing your system. Do you have an Antivirus program? These are just a few possibilities. I'll bet other people can think of a few more. One step at a time Norman. -
Anyone have tried to copy a protected Blu ray?
RandyL replied to Jackerry's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi and welcome to FPCH. You asked a legit question in a honest manner so I will do the same for you. Circumventing copy protection is always illegal. This is not to say it can't be done. Where there is a will there is a way. After all criminals are always finding new ways to ply their trade and law enforcement is always finding new ways to catch them. Will we tell you how? No. That would make us an accomplice. No legit forum will undertake that liability. Not only is it against our rules but we are a forum to help with computer problems. We are not a forum for assisting with illegal activities. But please feel free to ask about things we can help you with. That we will gladly do. -
It says that because it will reset all of the IE settings to the original default. It also will remove any IE add-ons which you may want such as toolbars. They would need to be reinstalled. You could go through quite a few IE changes one at a time looking for a cause instead. However this is usually faster. You can always change the settings back later if you have customized any of them.
-
It could be a browser setting. If it is IE try a reset which will disable add-ons. Control Panel>Internet Options>Advanced tab>reset

I'm confused by what you say. This program is not free. Their is a trial version but it is limited. This is a $200 program. What do you think a free trial will do? It will be limited. Is your windows 7 pro legit? Is Windows updated? Have you checked the support options for the program? You may have answered your own question here. Do you meet the specs? http://www.microsoft.com/expression/products/EncoderPro_SysRequirements.aspx Download and install a fresh copy of the trial version maybe but keep in mind Microsoft will not let you do much with it.

Great. If you want Windows Live Messenger you can get it here. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-live/essentials-home It will say "Get Live Essentials. Download now". This will download ALL the Essiantials programs. If you just want the messenger make sure you only select messenger or deselect the others after clicking to download. As for the autocomplete settings it's just a matter of personal preference. I don't use it but you may want to. You know where it's at so you can always change your settings anytime. Let us know if you need any more help Norman. We're always here. :D

Thanks for the pic Norman. Now we know what you have. This is an old program built into Windows years ago. It has since been replaced by popular instant messaging programs. Outside of an integrated office environment it really has no use today. Even then I wouldn't suggest it. Never have. Never will. There really is no use for it today. If you want a Microsoft or MSN messenger use the Windows Live Essentials one which is called Windows Live Messenger. You can disable it by going too "Add/Remove Programs" in the control panel. On the left side click on Add/remove Windows Components. Uncheck Windows Messenger. Click Next. Go to "Run" and "type services.msc" without the quotes. Click OK. Double click Messenger and make sure it is set to disabled. Net Messenger was often used by the bad guys to deliver popup messages. Inside a local area network popup messaging might have served a purpose but it really can be considered a security risk outside of the local network.

This sounds like the inline AutoComplete. I'm going to suggest that you delete all your history, temp files, cookies and AutoComplete history. Open "Internet Options" in "Control Panel" or if you are in IE click "Tools>Internet Options". Click on the "General" tab. Under "Browsing history" click Delete. Check every box then click Delete. Next click on the "Content" tab. In the "AutoComplete" section click "Settings". Uncheck everything the click "Delete AutoComplete history". Next click on the "Advanced" tab. Near the bottom of the "Browsing" section uncheck "Use inline AutoComplete (outside of internet explorer). Click Apply and OK. For that matter click Apply and OK for every step as needed. Close all applications and restart Internet Exporer. As for for uninstalling if you ever decide to uninstall "Windows Live Messenger" it is part of "Live Essentials". In "Programs and features" if you double click Live Essentials you will get an option to uninstall selective programs of it. Messenger will be listed.

Hi Norman. The first thing you have to do is set Messenger to not log you in automatically. Messenger>Tools>Options. Uncheck "Start messenger when I log on to my computer." Right click Messenger on your taskbar and "exit messenger." Start messenger manually and you will get the log on screen. On the ID log on field use the arrow to select the ID you want to remove. Uncheck "Remember my ID and password" Next to "Remember my ID and password" click "Forget me."
