  1. Have you tried a hard wired connection?
  2. These guys really are good aren't they? Thanks for helping mij.
  3. I love it and have used it for many years. As Ken said compatability with Microsoft Office is not an issue. And it's not just a word processor and spread sheet. It's the full office suite. Heck you can even export as a pdf file and set permissions. The list goes on as to what it can do.
  4. Neosmart used to have a download but they only have vista and 7 now. Also those are no longer free.
  5. If the other three people are getting a good connection and you are not and even a hard wired connection does not help I can only think that your network card is crap. Of course if your computer is infected with crap that can slow things down too.
  6. No problem. Please do post the results. Thanks GRANDAD.
  7. But how are the rest of us to learn if it's not posted here? :(
  8. This is your first problem. There is a very real chance you are infected. However our security team will not help you until you uninstall your torrent program. This is yet another sign of infection. Quite frankly I wouldn't trust AVG Free to find and remove infections so your scanning of torrents was a waste of time in my opinion. ASC in itself is at best garbage in my opinion. Even worse if you use the registry clean as these can cause issues unless you really understand the registry. Even worse is that you are using a beta version which is bound to cause problems. IObit has specifically said they "do not recommend general users downloading it", as it may "do harm" to their systems. Our security team can take a look at this for you if you remove your torrent program. We can also look for other conflicting or poor software as I'm betting there are multiple issues going on here. Do you have your Windows installation disks because you might very well be needing them.
  9. Hi eddie. Go to C:\Users\username Make sure you are signed in to your profile first. username would be the name of the profile you are signed in to. Are the folders there? Are the shortcuts in those folders there?
  10. Did you put the dvd drive first in the boot sequence in the BIOS? Did you format the drive in disk management? Or does it show as unallocated?
  11. This could be a compatability issue with the HP software and Windows XP. You may have to scan from a different program such as paint. Look at this link, I Can't Scan in Windows Using HP Software, for a workaround. You could also try the HP Scan Diagnostic Utility.
  12. A couple ideas.... Uninstall the printer software. Delete the printer from control panel. Delete the drivers from device manager. Download and SAVE the drivers from Epson for your model number. Do not choose Run. Usually with printers you install the software BEFORE you plug in the printer. So start the software installation before you plug it in. After that if you need to update drivers do it from the saved drivers downloaded from Epson. My point is you might need to ged rid of all things related to the printer then install correctly. What model number Epson is this?
  13. I'm not up to date on graphics cards but all the prices look good to me.
  14. Not that I know of. You could try a game shop that deals with used games and devices. You might be able to persuade them to do it on one of their used machines. Especially if you tell them what is on there. I don't have a ps3. I'm an Xbox guy. I would have suggested pulling the drive but if it's like an Xbox it's formatted for the device and not a computer. The bottom line is you need a ps3 I'm afraid.
  15. Files like jpeg and gif ARE compressed picture files. DAT files are data files which would be text or binary based. If it's text a text editor can open and read them. If it's binary then the original program that created them needs to be used. Either way if you check the file size of a DAT file you will likely see that it is extremely small. Way too small to be a picture in any form. This actually sounds like not everything was backed up. There is another possibility. The ps3 backup utility may be just for the purpose of backing up for your ps3 or for transfer to another ps3. The contents may be encrypted so that a computer can't read them, only a ps3. This may also explain 8gb. What might work is using the usb stick on a different ps3 and run the backup to transfer everything over. Take a look at this from the manual. http://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/settings/backuputility.html •Some types of backed up data can be restored on another PS3™ system. The types of data that can be restored on another system are as follows: - Saved data from PlayStation®3 format software *1 - Saved data for minigames ("minis") - Saved data for PSP™Game software - Image files under (Photo) - Music files under (Music) *2 - Video files under (Video) *2 - Bookmarks added under (Internet Browser) The next thing to do is COPY the pictures back to a usb stick so a computer can read them. eHow link here. http://www.ehow.com/how_5954515_back-up-playstation-pictures-computer.html
  16. If they are IE shortcut icons just right click and delete.
  17. Did you ever create the Vista Recovery Environment disks? If you did or could borrow one then you could try the startup repair. I purposely corrupted mine once by starting a Linux install then stopping it. Windows RE startup repair fixed it. There is a site you can download it from but it's not free any more. So if you know someone with Vista use theirs or create it on theirs. An XP disk won't help you.
  18. I think ps3 supports jpeg tiff gif png bmp files. The dat files are probably related to saved games and such. Try using Windows to search the usb for the above file formats.
  19. That's great Yockie. Thanks Armageddon. Thanks to you too Yockie. Our bar has green this month.
  20. Oh good golly. Armageddon is here. You are in good hands now Yockie. Welcome back my friend.
  21. Two computers affected by power surges at the same time. This is not good. Most surge protectors only protect against minor fluctuations. For instance ground strikes by lightening are too much for them. Chances are your mobos suffered damage on both of them. By the way I think that message refers to your graphics. Onboard would mean mobo damage. Not getting on to the internet could be caused by a daughterboard connected to the mobo or the surge could have fried your modem. I have have modems and routers fail because of surges.
  22. A lot of possibilities here then. Go to device manager. Typing devmgmt.msc in the run box should get you there. Go to sound controllers or similar and look for any problems. You need to expand that section. Do you see any yellow marks? It's also possible that Dell used a different mobo/sound chip. Dell has been known to substitute parts. Check audio properties in the control panel and speaker options from the system tray to see if it is muted.
  23. OK it's probably been used and they reinstalled XP which would put it back to where it appears to be new. Did you install the Audio SIGMATEL STAC 975X AC97 drivers from the link I gave you?
  24. Strange, Dell says this is not almost new. They only have XP and 2000 listed on the support page. http://support.dell.com/support/downloads/driverslist.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=gen&ServiceTag=&SystemID=LAT_PNT_PM_D610&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid= If this were almost new it would be Windows 7. XP is quite dated. What OS do you have on it Yockie? Just in case anyone wants to know this is a laptop.
  25. The thread is here maynard. http://extremetechsupport.com/threads/12184-Technical-issue-wrongly-posted-in-introduction?p=78851#post78851
