  1. I'm not the expert on viruses here but I doubt that is the cause. This is not to say that you don't have a virus though. You could pull the battery and unplug it. It will turn off without a power source.
  2. Any number of reasons for getting that message. Overheating for instance. Sometimes if a laptop is not on a hard surface when being used it can get hot. Anyway I only know of two ways to get it to shutdown. Use Ctrl+Alt +Delete to bring up task manager then click shut down. If that does not work you will have to manually switch off the power. This is not recommended but is a last resort. In rare cases this has caused problems. Remove any disks first if you can.
  3. I can't find anything on on it so I assume there are no drivers for Windows 7 on the disk. It sounds like the disk is for onboard sound on the computer and not for a card. If the manufacturer of the card does not have downloadable drivers for Windows 7 then it's probably not compatable.
  4. Tough one. If you can't get into safemode or the recovery console you may be out of luck. I know of no other option. Maybe someone else does.
  5. Maybe that is a clue. I'm not sure. What type of XP disk is this. If it's a recovery disk that did not come with your computer it would not match your hardware possibly. Can you tell us what it says on the disk and what is the exact model and number of your HP/Compaq?
  6. Nasher it really would be best if you continue with the original thread. Cross posting will only be confusing for everyone.
  7. Sorry we didn't help but I'm glad you figured it out and took the time to tell us.
  8. Good to hear that Mike. If you need more help you know where we are.
  9. The calendar and tasks are part of Outlook which is part of the Microsoft Office Suite. Outlook would be your email client. What you are opening is Outlook Express which is a free basic email client that comes installed with XP and older operating systems. Your mail should still be in Outlook. All you need to do is open it. Try typing outlook.exe in the run box. If this works then you probably just need to change your default mail client back to Outlook as it appears to be set as Outlook Express currently.
  10. OE6 is the last version. There is nothing newer. Are you referring to Outlook instead of Outlook Express?
  11. Scroll down to the Encrypions tab and the Certificates section on this page. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Options%20window%20-%20Advanced%20panel If you click on the Validation button the first two things are ticked on mine.
  12. Hi. At the top of the first post click on Thread Tools. The option to subscribe should be there.
  13. Unless I'm viewing the wrong specs. *Integrated video is not available if a graphics card is installed. Integrated graphics using nVidia GeForce 6150SE Up to 256MB (with 512MB or more system memory) Also supports PCI Express x16 graphics cards
  14. Thanks for picking up on this thread Ken.
  15. I agree Ken. It is suspect. But then we do tend to agree often.
  16. It does sound like a loose connection but working on the inside of a laptop is not something for everyone.
  17. I might also add that this sounds like there is still an infection present. Others will likely advise you further on this.
  18. As I said it's just my opinion. For standard gaming your onboard graphics are pretty good. For adanced gaming you'll need more than this computer or a card can supply. Then there is the cost factor. Look at your specs here. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/documentSubCategory?tmp_rule=42878&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&product=3801314&key=null&site=null Costs are the card and much bigger PSU. I would include the cost of more ram but yours will only support 4Gb and all of that will not be used on your 32 bit system. For a good gaming computer a quad core, 16Gb ram, graphics card, bigger PSU to support it etc. I would thing it better to buy a new and better PC rather than do a partial upgrade at that expense.
  19. You have 3Gb ram and the card will need 1 Gb of that. Not much left for Vista. Also 32 bit will not even recognize a full 4 Gb. Your PSU is 250w and you will need at least 450w. More is preferred. When pulling up your specs at HP your model shows as a Compaq. Personally I wouldn't waste my money on the upgrade considering your particular computer.
  20. Chances are your fan is failing. Although a computer can get hot in seconds even if it is not it will generate that error. A failing fan can even be a delay in starting which will generate an error. To continue after that error you need to press F1 to continue to Windows or F2 to enter setup. You should replace the fan now before overheating issues cause damage. Once you do that the error and the need to F1 should be gone.
  21. What is the make, model and number of your PC?
  22. Hi. If we knew the number of the PB easynote we could try to find something on it for you. When I went to PB support it wanted a country so that might be helpful too. http://www.packardbell.com/support/
  23. Can you please start your own thread. Also if you feel this is related to your other issue you can you just add to that thread. This thread is for tigerpilot1.
  24. Hi Pete. This guy is an ass. Do you want to rip him a new one. :D http://www.freepchelp.co.uk/threads/11880-Opening-new-tabs-in-IE7-in-home-page
