Irql_not_less_or_equal error
RandyL replied to jazzychris's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
A google search seems to indicate that error is also memory related. If you have two sticks try using just one at a time. Otherwise try different or new memory. -
There are two cables from the hard drive. One is to connect to the mother board. If it is a wide usually gray ribbon cable then you have a IDE drive. If it is a small cable you have a SATA drive. There are adaptors for the two but I wouldn't recommend it usually. If you are talking about the Power Supply-PSU- that connects to the mother board then there are different pin counts. I don't know a way around that. I think you don't mean power to the drive but rather the cable from the drive to the mother board. As you mention media centre I'm guessing it came from an old XP Media Centre and it's probably IDE. Your other computer may or may not have a connector that is IDE. If not an adaptor or using another computer to burn to external media is your best bet. As Synapse said a picture would help. As Jelly Bean said fitting it to an external enclosure is a good option. Of course you would need the right kind. SATA, IDE or both. They await your reply.

Multiple versions of MS Publisher?
RandyL replied to LindaGB's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
If you save it as 2003 or earlier it will open in Publisher 2003 exactly as it would had you created it in 2003. The 2003 program would remain the same. Try it. -
Multiple versions of MS Publisher?
RandyL replied to LindaGB's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Hi Linda. I have in the past used different versions of the same software with no problems including MS Office. However there is probably a better alternative. After creating the file do a File>Save as. Then using the drop down arrow in Save as type choose 2003 or earlier. Most of these office suites are backwards compatable. -
I totally agree with Dalo. If the computer you had the burn software on can't read it from within the software program you're probably screwed and the data lost. It really does look like crap from what little support the site offers. I can only think of one thing to try. After that I have nothing. Since it does read in a stand alone DVD player try hooking up a stand alone DVD player via AV cables and perform a copy. I know this works with DVD movie format but unsure about your situation. Perhaps after finalizing a computer may be able to get the files. I've done this with VOB and then converted but it's a real pain. It's not looking good at this point as Dalo said.

Lost epson stylus photo r200 installation cd
RandyL replied to spraymondo's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Epson Stylus Photo R200, Overview - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc. If the above link does not work Google Epson Support and put in "epson stylus photo R200" in the Proct Finder. Drivers and downloads will have what you need. However I hope you are not trying to install this old hardware on your Windows 7. It's not supported. -

Good deal. I'm glad kevh has done this before. Thanks kev. -
I have to agree with Dalo on the file type issue. What I don't understand is that a DVD player reads a CD. Some DVD players will read jpeg pics from a CD I know. So exactly what did you put on the CD? I've never heard of this software and after looking at it I'm suspect as to it's quality and what it does. 1. What diid you burn. 2. What are the file types? 3. Did you finalize the disk? 4. Is the material copyrighted? 5. What type of info is on the CD? 6. What type of programs have you tried to get the info off the CD? Sorry but we really need more information on this. Keep in mind though that the software might be limited and there really is no support on it.

Hacked Hotmail Account & PC slows
RandyL replied to r0adrunner's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
What is the model and number of your Compaq? What security do you have? Any P2P or torrents running? Considering your first post it might be best if one of the experts look at possible malware issues. Hopefully they will see this thread now that you posted again. -
CX6600 all-in-one wont accept new driver (Solved)
RandyL replied to mij's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Is your printer a wirless network printer? Are your two computers configured for networking? Does your printer have an ethernet connector? Have you ever networked a Vista machine with a non-Vista machine? Do you have a print server? To be honest I have not networked a printer without the software on both machines so I don't know. -

CX6600 all-in-one wont accept new driver (Solved)
RandyL replied to mij's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I would agree Dalo but in this case it appears Epson disagrees as Vista is not supported. Epson America, Inc. - Support - Highlights states: If your Epson CD does not indicate support for Windows Vista, DO NOT INSERT YOUR EPSON PRODUCT SOFTWARE CD IN YOUR WINDOWS VISTA COMPUTER because the setup program is not compatible with Windows Vista. Instructions for installing additional software from your CD may be available with your driver download. Then if you follow the link Epson America, Inc. - Support - Highlights it says: Follow these steps to set up your Epson product and automatically download Windows Vista drivers for it from Microsoft: Set up your computer. Connect a USB cable to your computer and then to your Epson product. Turn on your Epson product. After a moment, you see this screen: Either way it's a crap shoot as the printer is not supported on Vista. -
Hi. I think you may be confusing hard drive space with memory or RAM that is needed to run software, applications or Windows. Right click on Computer and select properties. Is your RAM listed? Left click on Computer. Your hard drive space used and free should show. What is running slow? Is it internet, bootup, programs or something else or everything?

CX6600 all-in-one wont accept new driver (Solved)
RandyL replied to mij's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Jim I hope you can get it to work but to be honest you might always have problems if it is no longer supported. I feel your pain as I have had to discard hardware and software after changing to a different version of Windows. Yes that includes a printer and a scanner. You might be able to get drivers from Microsoft Windows updates. Epson has some info on this that I just found. Epson America, Inc. - Support - Highlights If that link does not work try Epson America, Inc. - Support - Highlights and scrool down to all-in-ones and click on instructions You may have to uninstall it first if you used the Epson setup CD originally. As always make a a system restore point before uninstalling software or drivers for an easy back to where you were. -
"Compressed drive", now computer acting a little funny
RandyL replied to shawnh's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Sorry about the repair Shawn. I'm glad everything is ok again. -
All I have are some guesses but make sure you are done with the clean proccess first. Possibly firewall settings. The easiest way to check that is to temporarily turn off the firewall. Conflicting security programs. I see you have tried a few in the past. Only run 1 AV and 1 firewall at a time. If you have a Mcafee security suite and are running Windows Defender at the same time that is a possible problem per Mcafee. Uninstalling a messenger before reinstalling often works but on rare occasions you may have to delete the leftover program files before reinstalling. I always suggest making a restore point first. Which reminds me make sure System Restore is working. Like I said finish the clean with Starbuck before doing anything else.

I looked it up at Epson. That's only a utility for print settings from within an application. Epson America, Inc. - Support - Highlights XP is the latest OS that the Epson Stylus CX6600 has print drivers for. I do see TWAIN drivers for Vista that might work for the scanner portion of your all in one but not print drivers. Epson Stylus CX6600, Drivers & Downloads - Technical Support - Epson America, Inc. -
Looking at the different models of Pavillion dv8000 at the HP site I can't seem to find that Windows 7 is supported by HP for these models. I also don't see any dv8000 series that HP supports an upgrade for. I take it the reason you tried the new optical drive is because the original did the same thing. Did you do an upgrade installation of Windows 7 or did you purchase the full version?

As always if you don't want the kids installing anything make sure their account is set to Standard and not Administrator. That is right. As a Standard user they can't change any settings. Set up a file on your Administrator account. Log in to a Standard account. Try to delete the file. See what happens. Your library links have been very informative to me kev. Thanks.

Disk boot failure - Insert system disk and press Enter
RandyL replied to a topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
That is strange that the BIOS on YOUR computer detects the drive but it does not show in disk management. What about the "other" computer? Dalo if it was a RAID setup shouldn't disk management show the drives in a different color? I don't have any ideas or knowledge on this. I'll leave it with the others. But it is strange. -
A registry cleaner can also cause all sorts of problems. But since you booted once after hopefully that's not the problem. Do as Dalo says and see if you can get into safe mode.

Booting freezes after update
RandyL replied to AlexanderAubert's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
Were you able to pick a restore point and restore to that point? Can you explain more on that? At what point does it appear to freeze on bootup? Vista can take a very long time to finish an update after rebooting. As Dalo is pointing out the issue could be that the computer was shut down or went into a power saving mode as it was installing the update. Doing a system restore from normal mode or from safe mode might or might not get you out of this. Can you get into safe mode? That's all I have. Please carry on. -

I'm wondering if a picture of what you have in disk management might help. It might give a clue.
