  1. If all the RAM is exactly the same and is the correct RAM according to Crucial and all are brand new then it might be a faulty stick even though new or even a bad slot. As noted before your PSU is weak for the card and 4GB is minimal for Windows 7 if you ask me. It sounds like you have multiple resource and hardware issues. Things to consider: Not enough RAM. Need a bigger PSU. Software installed and running at startup. Have you tried reinstalling Windows 7? I assume you have all of the Windows 7 disks. Is that correct?
  2. I don't know but I'll bet this is the security you are looking at. HP ProtectTools - Windows Vista and Windows XP
  3. My goodness. I almost missed this again. HAPPY BIRTHDAY MY GOOD MAN.
  4. I think maybe because in 7 the default is to Hide extensions for known file types unless you change it in Control Panel>Folder Options>View
  5. Or click the text field and change just the first letter. Works everytime too as DSTM said.
  6. LOL And a very merry Christmas to you too.
  7. I use Crucial for memory. As for the PSU the card does call for 600W minimum. I can't say for sure if 530W is enough.
  8. I have to agree with Nev. If you have RAM errors it is the most likely. After all you did say you are using the old RAM.
  9. One thing worth checking first. As it's making noise see if the PSU fan is clogged with dust or grime.
  10. Laptop drives can fail faster than desktop drives. To be safe you should backup your files. I would heed the drive failure warning. As for a new drive any 2.5 laptop drive should work. SATA in your case of course.
  11. I agree. I too think it's legit. Let's let the thread stand as is. Providing the manual link was the perfect way to go.
  12. I can't be sure as my Vista died and I also don't have a laptop. However on my HP desktop F1 takes me to the Windows Boot Manager. If it's asking for a password at that stage I'm concerned that a BIOS password or BIOS lock has been set. This is usually done to prevent someone unauthorized from making changes to the BIOS and in some cases from even being able to get to the Windows boot screen. To my knowledge HP is not in the habit of setting one by default. If I were you I would get my money back from the vendor. Having such a setting or a computer being re-sold by a vendor that has not had Windows reinstalled makes me very suspicious. It's at the best very sloppy resale or at worse a stolen computer. Either way I'm willing to bet it didn't even come with recovery media and if you try to make a set you will find it's already been done so you can't do it again. Reinstalling Windows will remove Windows passwords but not BIOS password. This is not good as we can't help with password issues short of reinstalling. Seriously, try to get your money back. This is a sloppy sale.
  13. WOW the Asus site sucks. Even the user manual is worthless. I'm sure there is a simple solution to this but I don't have it off hand. By the way I think the model you refer to is N53Jf xe-1 not N53f xe-1. and it does come with a card. I see you posted this on other sites at the same time. You should wait for replies on one site before posting all over the place.
  14. Hi doug. No problem. Go ahead and post in Malware. The experts will gently guide you. It might be very simple as all situations are different. Good luck doug.
  15. It might be your graphics card. The system requirements are: Power Requirements: 600W Minimum Power Supply 6-Pin Power Connectors Operating System Requirements: Microsoft Windows 98 Microsoft Windows 2000 Microsoft Windows ME Microsoft Windows XP Microsoft Windows Vista Linux Unix The product specifications can also be found at this link. Graphic Cards - NVIDIA GeForceĀ® 9 Series - NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT
  16. What type of RAM are you using? The Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. G41M-ES2L specs call for Dual channel DDR2 1066(OC). GA-G41M-ES2L (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview
  17. Hi doug. I'm sorry but The Rules specifically rule number 3 states, No advice or help will be offered with regard to P2P (Peer to Peer, torrents etc) programs or software obtained via that medium unless a member specifically states that they require help on removing such software. By now your system is probably totally infected with malware and file types hijacked too. P2P or peer to peer and torrents are a recipe for disaster as you now know. I suggest you uninstall bearshare and all other P2P and torrents as well as delete all files obtained by such means. After doing that you can hope for the best or perhaps reinstall Windows to clean up the mess. If after uninstalling such programs and you wish to attempt a cleanup you should post in the Malware Infection Removal section. If you do please take note of these instructions first. Before posting for Malware Removal help. I always ask everyone who dabbles in such if they have their Windows disks or recovery media handy because they may well need it to reinstall Windows. Do you have yours?
  18. Hi Werner. Can you give us a screenshot from Disk Management please?
  19. Check the BIOS to see if it's set to boot from the CD drive first. If not change it-save the change-exit the BIOS. If the hardware passes the Dell diagnostics you will still need the installation disk or boot floppies to even attempt a repair of the system. A couple of possibilities can be found at: kbalertz or Microsofts Windows 2000 Registry Repair Utility Considering the age of this computer the drive could be bad. Even if it is not there isn't going to be a lot you can do with this computer even if you get it running in my opinion.
  20. There may not be any for XP. Compaq doesn't seem to have any for XP but they do for Vista. Have you considered trying to obtain a set of recovery disks from Compaq? If so Start Here. All things considered reinstalling Vista would be best. Who knows what exactly that XP install is.
  21. Hi. Please follow the advice on the link below. It might help speed things up. Before posting for Malware Removal help.
  22. Hi. The link is a direct download link. I'm wondering if maybe you didn't notice the notification bar asking if you want to allow the download.
  23. Nice post Ken. Thankyou one and all. is something I am striving for myself in my old age. I hope it's not too late for me.
