I wish I knew. You seem to have tried everything I can think of. I assume this is XP and you have 2Gb of RAM. Is that correct?

I can't say about print servers. I've never dabbled in them. In my personal opinion though there are two better options. 1. A printer that is already wireless capable. 2. A printer with a network (ethernet) port. With this setup you can hardwire the printer to the wireless router. Then all the computers on the network can connect to it. This is the setup I use.

I can't find much on this so I'll try the usuall fixes. dll usually refers to dynamic link library files by the way. Disconnect any new devices. Uninstall any recent programs. Uninstall all file sharing programs. Run multiple malware scans Do a system restore. Hopefully this will solve it.

I'm not sure I understand what you mean.

activex install internet explorer

ActiveX controls are part of web based software designed to work with Windows and the application. When you install an application like flash or toolbars or web based games you are prompted to allow that particular ActiveX control. -
Secondary hard drive's data lost, please help me!
RandyL replied to Hship's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
So many questions. Missing files on bootup usually indicate a corrupt program or hard drive. What was the missing dll file? C and D drive. Is this a single hard drive that is partitioned or two seperate hard drives? I'm not familiar with TuneUp Undelete nor do I understand why you are using it and how you are using it. 20,000 files is a huge amount if you are trying to recover missing saved files. If your drive is corrupt then saved files may be lost unless you take drastic and sometimes expensive steps. Undeleting doesn't seem to fit the bill here. What did it find on each particular drive? Then you mention drive E which is a partition. What exactly is drive C, D and E? Is one of these a recovery partition? Are you talking about doing a Windows System Restore or restoring/recovering your computer back to factory settings which is a reinstallation? Since it seems you can boot into Windows the best thing you can do for now is backup all your saved files, bookmarks, emails, etc. to a media you can trust such as CD,DVD or a known working external drive. After that and more clarification the next things to try depend on your answers. And yes a move may have damaged your drive but that's not my first guess since you can boot. -
I'm guessing that your hard drive is failing. There is one thing I can think of to try though as this is a Windows file. Tap the F8 key repeatedly at startup to get into the Advanced boot options screen. Then select startup repair (Repair your computer) Oops you tried that. Which again leads me to believe it's the drive.

Considering the above your only option may be to reinstall Windows.
-
You're welcome. It took me a while to figure that out when I first got Vista. So you see we are much alike. Like you I'm going to wait a bit to install IE9. I use IE and Firefox.
-
I just now hid the update by right clicking it then selecting hide update. After closing and opening Windows updates it was hidden.

Hi. The support manuall for your DELL Optiplex GX280 makes no mention of a rcovery partition. It does however state that you need the CD to reinstall XP on page 30. To reinstall Windows XP, you need the following items: ā¢ Dellā¢ Operating System CD ā¢ Dell Drivers and Utilities CD You must use Windows XP Service Pack 1 or later when you reinstall Windows XP. As it appears there is no recovery partition on your hard drive to reinstall from and you don't have the recovery/reinstallation disks that should have come with your computer then there are only two or three options. 1. Contact Dell to get the disks if they are still avaialable. 2. Buy a full retail XP version which will cost more. 3. Buy a legal recovery/reinstallation disk for your particular computer from a third party. As your code is tied to this particular machine you will probably need the Dell disk for the code to work. This is the way most OEM computers work. You can only use the code on that computer and only with the original OEM disk which you don't have. To summarize: You need the Dell disks that match your code or a full version.

Good to hear that John. I've done the same thing for my grandson so I know how you feel.

An expert should be along to help you soon. Be patient please. This thread may get moved to the Security section. Just wanted to let you know.

I think you need to re-post bob. No pic.

Are you using the free Mcafee that Plusnet internet provider offers as well as using Antivir at the same time? Help with a Dell XPS Hard drive
RandyL replied to LeighH's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I'm confused. What do you mean by SATA converter? Do you mean external drive case? Are you trying to retrieve files from a broken hard drive? That might be kind of difficult if the drive is broken. -
Have you tried booting into safemode by tapping the F8 key repeatedly while the laptop is booting?
-
I don't have Playstation. My grandson uses Xbox so I can't help you with that part. It does seem difficult to find a converter. It seems most freeware offerings come with limitations unless you buy the full version. Don't you just hate that? I did install Free SWF Converter to check it out. (free version) It seems to do well but I don't know how large a file it will handle or whether it includes sound but it will convert to formats youtube supports. Another one you can try is CinemaForge but again I don't know anything about it and I have not tested it. Others may have more suggestions.

I'm afraid Synapse is correct. And he knows this area quite well. I'm afraid that disk just won't work. Thanks Synapse.
-
Thanks Mokles. It's always nice to know that we are appreciated.
-
That might be a problem if it's a recovery type disk. Those will only work on the same type of computer that came with them. What does it say on the disks?

How to add Comments in My Computer ?
RandyL replied to Sebastian42's topic in Tech Support & Discussions Forum
I believe you have an answer at this forum. -
Did you check to see if it was hidden per my above link? Also try this. Open device manager. Click on the scan for hardware changes icon. Scan. Also while in device manager expand the battery category and see if the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery is listed. If so does it show any problems?
-
Hi john. I doubt they are swf files. Right click the file and select properties. The Type of file should be listed. Once we know for sure the file type there are many converters that can change a lot of file types. I've used some free ones so I could upload to youtube.
