  1. Are you using Internet Explorer and was it set for Internet Explorer?
  2. It sounds like you don't have the correct program set as default to open internet shortcuts (.url). Try going to Default Programs in Control Panel and associate your web browser to open the file type.
  3. No idea. Perhaps we could tell you more if we knew the make, model and number of the computer. I'm surprised it didn't try to reinstall after a reboot. See if it's hidden in the notification area. http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/106787-notification-area-system-icons.html There are some different versions here but no downloads. http://www.pcpitstop.com/drivers/download/Microsoft~ACPI-Compliant~Control~Method~Battery.html
  4. For Firefox bookmarks you can backup or even export them to as a HTML file. http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing%20up%20and%20restoring%20bookmarks http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Exporting%20bookmarks%20to%20an%20HTML%20file
  5. On the system restore point try this. Choose a different restore point. Then Show more restore points. This should give you older restore points. It might be slightly different on your Vista then my 7 but it's similar. I used to have Vista.
  6. First of all if you're talking about putting your old drive in a new computer Windows will need to be reinstalled on that drive to match the new hardware. If you want two drives with Windows or a dual boot drive with 32 and 64 bit I don't see why you can't do it. You need to actually install them though as I said. Not just swap a drive. Also to keep in line with Microsoft licensing rules that will constitute the need for an additional license even if both operating systems are on the same disks.
  7. I'm with BeeCeeBee on this. You already have the correct drivers. What you will get from LG is the forteManager software. This will replace your ATI catylist control panel software which in my opinion is superior (ATI). I've tried fortManager and didn't like it. If you want to update your ATI graphics display adaptors then you can do so via the ATI site or Windows updates. But if it's working there is no need to. If you want the fortManager software you can find the W2053-TQ-PF version by clicking monitors at this link. http://www.lg.com/us/support/product/support-product.jsp Find your model and download, save and unzip the zip file. It's the first zip file. Don't let the name confuse you. It's also for XP.
  8. I've never connected my computer to a TV so I'm not sure. However more information would be helpful. What is the make model and number of the laptop? Or at least its system specs. What type of video are you referring to? Streaming, files on your computer etc. Maybe it's something to do with the laptop, the TV or the video source. It's hard to guess without more information. Hopefully someone will have some ideas to help you.
  9. Maybe this link will help you Sean. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1751
  10. Have you tried this download? http://kb.netgear.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/499/kw/GA311%20driver%20download Note the instructions for installing as they are important.
  11. You never said if they were OEM recovery CD's or what but here is what I think might be the problem. The CD's are probably OEM disks from another computer and are specific to that machines hardware. This error suggests that and you either need to obtain the proper OEM disks for that computer or a full retail version of XP. It matters not if you have a license. Also if the computer has the license code and it's a Dell it's probably for the original Vista installation and nothing else. If the CD's have the code then and are not full retail disks then once again they are probably not the right ones for that computer. In summary wrong disks for that computer.
  12. I can't read dump files but if you look in Event Viewer you might find the problem. As it stands now all I know is that you are getting blue screens.
  13. If you're going to use an OEM recovery CD on the Dell it will have to be the Dell CD that came with it. Otherwise you need a full retail version of XP. After that you'll need to find the drivers. I'm unclear as to what disks you are trying to install from. Can you be more specific please? Retail-OEM from what-copies etc.
  14. It's hard to say for sure. For one thing I no longer use Microsoft office. It depends on the picture though. It's probably just that. A picture, which means the text is part of the picture. It can't be seperated by normal means. You could try saving the picture then use a graphics editor to recreate the picture, touch up the text box area to try to recreate the original picture, save it then add a new text box. Replace the picture with the new picture. Photoshop, Paintshop Pro or maybe the Gimp can be used. I've used all three in the past. If possible just use the graphics editor with an untouched copy of the image if you can obtain it. It's easier.
  15. Hi and welcome. For some reason your name seems familiar to me. That would likely be for a good reason.
  16. Starbuck that's twice now recently where a download link gives a page cannot be displayed as per posters. This one and a poster trying to download a NIC driver. I hope there is not an issue with malware causing this that is new.
  17. I know Kingston has a memory lookup feature on their main page. Kingston Use that and it will probably tell you what Crucial did.
  18. As long as you got it working that's what counts. And for the record that's not the first time Synapse has come to my rescue. :)
  19. User Profile corruption evidently. Constant file corruption could be a sign of a failing drive but since this is the User Profile again I doubt it. I've seen AVG do some pretty strange things so perhaps that.
  20. Check Device manager for problems. After that there might be something here you can use. Wireless Zero Configuration Reference You might have to start the wzcsvc service.
  21. I'm not familiar with Virgin or the router but it sounds a bit like the modem may be failing. Sometimes a failing modem will work after a restart. Sometimes. It's a possibility. Try a direct hardwired connection bypassing the router to see if it's a modem issue.
  22. Since this is a HP you could try this HP link. Vista Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) Driver This HP link states it's for XP. Microsoft Windows XP Realtek RTL8101 Family PCI-E Fast Ethernet NIC (NDIS 6.0) Driver If that isn't what you need we might need the model and number of the HP laptop.
  23. If you do resolve your problem the tools you used may have caused other problems. I hope not.
  24. With your full retail disks the EULA is no longer an issue. If it was an OEM disk then we may have not been able to help. All is well though. Dalo and Synapse are correct. Nice link Ken. The Elder Geek is a good place of information.
  25. Hi. This is an old thread. New questions should have their own thread as all problems as well as dll files are different. I don't think much of those tools by the way.
