1. Hello and welcome. Jump right in.
2. A screeching sound at startup is usually a fan in my opinion. Open the case and see if there is a buildup of dirt. At the same time you might be able to tell if the noise is coming from one of the fans when you startup.
3. As noted it might be a conflict with something but it's hard to say what. You could try temporarily disabling Norton 360. Since you have multiple players it might be that one of them is conflicting. You could try uninstalling all players and see if the Windows Media Player runs.
4. It might depend on whether you have your network set up as a Workgroup or Homegroup. If it's a Workgroup you can set a password in Network and sharing. Only people with a password to your user account can share. If your not sharing files and folders with anyone you can disable sharing all together. As a rule if sharing is turned on you will be sharing your printer with everyone if you use the Windows settings. 5. Does this happen only with DVD's and CD's? Do files saved on your computer crash your media players?
6. It's a search engine. Have you installed anything lately that might have added anything to your browser?
7. This section of the forums isn't for solving problems but then you are not asking for that. So I'll give you my standard advice on buying a used computer. If it has not had a clean install don't buy it. The reasons are many. If it does not come with installation disks don't buy it. The reasons are many. If both of the above are true definitely don't buy it. The reasons are compounded.
8. What is the make, model and number of the PC? We can check your options. When setting the boot options to CD first in the BIOS you must save the changes before exiting the BIOS. Once set correctly it will boot from the XP Pro installation disks. As it stands now it is trying to boot into Windows and can't find that file to load. For that matter I can't find that file. The name might be wrong. Spaces matter in file names.
9. Try this. How to Reset or Restore Advanced Settings in Internet Explorer 7 It's the same for IE8.
10. This should help you get around here. How to use the forum and post new messages.
11. Looking around the solution might be to uninstall all of the products in the correct order then reinstalling. Check this apple link. Removing and reinstalling iTunes, QuickTime, and other software components for Windows Vista or Windows 7
12. Uninstalling and reinstalling software like the Firefox browser can be an easy fix which is good. Unfortunately Windows 7 uses IE8 not IE7 and IE is part of Windows not a seperate program. A reinstall is not a possibility although IE8 can be turned off in Programs and Features.
13. Let's get this machine clean. You might be surprised at what you have and what other problems it can cause. Please post in Malware Infection Removal on this particular problem so that an expert can assist you. It might help to speed things up if you read this first. Before posting for Malware Removal help. If you're unsure about anything just ask.
14. Some add-ons can be a problem. Some toolbars are buggy for instance. I wonder which add-on caused your problem.
15. You're welcome.
16. You can read the requirements by clicking on the Details link at that page.
17. That is a strange one. If you want to reset here is how. How to Reset or Restore Advanced Settings in Internet Explorer 7
18. Ah Windows 7. You could try a startup repair. How to Use Recovery Environment in Windows 7 - Bootbeta If the computer won't restart normally you can try the startup repair. I'm still thinking the drive is bad though.
19. If it still has not run then it sounds to me like the drive has problems. Especially considering your other posts. You said you backed up your important files so that is good. If you need more data recovery stop now and await further instructions. If you do a hard shutdown during chkdsk it might mark the drive as dirty. If it does you'll need to use the XP Recovery Console to boot to a command prompt screen. If the XP Recovery Console is not installed you'll need the Windows XP installation disk.
20. Did you try setting it like mine? If you set it like that, OK the changes and restart Firefox there is nothing to rememember. Notice the bookmark setting in the location bar. It may be pulling it up from bookmarks and not history?
21. In post 12 I stated the above. Let it run. DO NOT turn it off. Stopping a disk check can cause problems.

23. I just moved your thread out of Introductions to the DVD/CD Rom drives and Printer/Scanner Issues in the Hardware section. Here is a direct link to your thread. http://extremetechsupport.com/forum/dvd-cd-rom-drives-and-printer-scanner-issues/11332-printing-pdf-page-s.html
24. Invoices & Estimates Pro | Invoicing Software It's support looks really poor. Customer Service It seems the chat link is for ordering issues only. The FAQ's link is dead at this time. I was able to find this link but even this page does not load fully. Also the limited support there also looks really poor. Invoices & Estimates Pro - Product Support You might be able to find something through the people they contract to offer support. (third party) Support - Nova Development I wish I could help more.
25. Firefox>Tools>Options>Privacy You can change the Location bar settings to Nothing and History to Never remember history. It's probably custom set to remember history at a predefined period of time. The Mozilla page has more on this including how to delete a single entry.
