  1. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PILOTBOB. It's been a while but I remember you well. Don't be a stranger Bob.
  2. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PseFRANK. Have a good one.
  3. Hi Barney. It was exactly as Goku stated so well. I wasn't sure in your case so I left the post up and asked. We are happy to have you as a member and I hope we can help. I apologize for doubting you. Thank you too Goku. By the way I just deleted another post that looked very real but definitely was not. A full time job these days.
  4. seedy21 if you are wondering where the post above yours went I deleted it. Although the poster appeared to make a legitimate post he was definitely just spamming. Thankyou for picking up on this thread seedy.
  5. From what I can find it only supports Windows 7. If it's completely blank that means you have no operating system at all. Drivers can't install until Windows is installed. But yet the error suggests that there is a version of Windows installed but it is not Windows 7. The previous owner probably wiped the drive with the XP installation including the recovery partition. If so you will need to buy a full retail version of Windows 7 or contact sony to see if you can get the recovery DVD disks. VAIO : Sony Europe If the recovery partition was not deleted you could try these steps. VAIO Support Europe You may have bought a real lemon here. Why anyone would have installed XP on a relatively new NETBOOK is beyond me.
  6. I looked at their site and have absolutely no idea what they do or why you are in business with them. Established in 1973 in the U.S.A supposedly but other information contradicts this. Forgive me if I am wrong but I can't see this company as being legit. Too much conflicting or non-information. So I have to ask if you are spamming for them? After all why are you contacting us for what is obviously an issue with them that they alone can resolve? I could elaborate on so many aspects of this post but I think it's already clear.
  7. Just my opinion but I think 2Gb Ram is mininum for running Vista. I used to think Vista could squeak by with slightly less but having used it for quite some time I would reccomend 4Gb. I currently have 2Gb on mine with Aero enabled and it normally runs fine. However with other intensive programs running it can slow down. A Mcafee virus scan for instance. If you throw in other programs running in the background it would be even worse. After twice removing programs that were installed by family members I can tell you that not everything will show in the startup. Of course this includes viruses and trojans. Poker programs, P2P, torrents and games were a few others. Like Dalo said though it's most likely that it's programs (or malware) that is eating your resources. Adding memory might help but not if you have something installed that is eating it or if you have other issues. A quick trip to our malware section may or may not shed some light on what you have running. Either way it's my personal opinion you should have at least 2Gb. If it's a memory issue though Dalo knows more than I.
  8. I think there is a high probability that you may still be suffering the fallout from the infection and your fixes. From what I've heard some forms of malware can cause problems with internet connections. It might be a good idea to copy and paste your first post in the malware removal section and sort out any issues relating to malware before going further with this thread. After all we don't know the nature of the infection and where there is one infection there is often times more. Is that OK with you Dalo? I'm just considering all possibilities. Other than that I'll leave it up to you people to decide.
  9. Hi Barnett. You're probably thinking of Microsoft Office because people need it at work, home and a laptop. For Windows it's one PC for each one you buy. The validation for it can only be used on one PC at a time.
  10. It sounds like the mail server you are sending it too is blocking it for some reason. It could be a number of reasons ranging from your address or the entire @eel.co.uk address range being blocked or some characteristic of the mail itself that leads spam blockers to consider it spam. I am assuming of course that you are not having any trouble with sending from your Outlook Express to any other addresses.
  11. Now I know I have good company. lol
  12. Good call Plastic Nev. I agree with you and BeeCeeBee. The post should stand link and all.
  13. I personally don't know of any program to do this but I was intrigued by what Nev found. The only thing that came to my mind was to install a messenger like Windows live or Yahoo messenger. If each person had a messenger account that was setup to start automatically at startup then a messenger service would recieve it at loggging into the Windows user account. Not exactly the best way but the others would immediately see that an offline message was sent.
  14. I'm clueless here even after looking up ISATAP on Wikipedia. However that shouldn't cause locking up problems as it appears to be network related. Just in case someone has an idea is your computer networked? Like Nev said if it works fine in safemode it's likely not heat. If it's locking up in normal mode and your not networked and you have those errors I'm wondering if it's not malware. What security do you have and what malware scans have you run? Do you use any file sharing programs or torrents? Like I said I'm clueless on this so I'm just trying to gather information for others. You said you don't have a Vista disk so you can't reinstall if you need to. Was Vista preloaded? Did you lose the disks? Did you ever have the option to create the recovery disks. Can you reinstall from the recovery partition? What is the make, model and number of your PC?
  15. I've been looking for that link and you found it for me.:) I'm pretty sure I've done those kind of things. OK I admit it. I've done even better. I mean worse. I mean... Oh never mind.:D
  16. The link works for me.
  17. I would say that confirms what I suspected. Your printer needs to be serviced or replaced. Considering the costs of servicing a printer by a qualified person it is likley to be best to just buy a new one. Replacing parts and paying for the labor will cost just as much if not more than buying a new one. Also buying a new one means ALL the parts are new not just one part. In my opionion if all the other options failed to fix it then buying new is best.
  18. Several possibilities such as damaged or dirty paper rollers. HP link to the following. The following factors can cause paper jams: Paper loaded incorrectly in the paper tray.Damaged or dirty paper rollers.Torn, wrinkled, or damp paper loaded in the paper tray. The rear access door or two-sided printing accessory (duplexer) might not be closed or is not locked into place.Paper was added to a stack already in the tray while the HP product was printing. The tray contains more than one type of paper. The paper is jammed inside the HP product where you cannot see it.An obstruction is blocking the paper path. Torn pieces of paper from a previous jam are stuck in the product. The tray is too full. If printing on an envelope, the edges of the envelope are bent.
  19. I take it the sound worked ok before. You could try doing a system restore or look in Device manager to see if there are any problems with your sound or audio devices.
  20. We really don't have an appropriate place for me to post this but I would like to suggest that everyone post a big thanks to all of our members who work so hard to help those in need. Here is a short list. Let's add to it. BeeCeeBee Dalo Harkin DirtyPolo DSTM Kevh Match KenB PseFrank Tootech I know there are more. This is just a start. I'll edit the list as everyone posts in this thread to remind me.
  21. I think you mean you have a Acer Aspire m1201. A Inspiron is a Dell PC. I think your computer came with either Vista or Windows 7 even though your profile says you have XP. First of all let's talk about downloading an illegal copy of Windows via a torrent. Not only is it illegal they are usually fraught with problems and may also contain malicious add-ons to say the least. Then there are validation and update issues. Those copies are hacked so issues abound. In addition no forum or reputable computer shop or Acer will ever help you once you install it. So please don't even think about doing that. I would also not consider trying to use a different set of disks. These are not the days of Windows 98 when you could do that with just a holographic sticker with the key even if you had the exact same version. I believe your computer came prebundled with Vista installed. I understand your reluctance to pay for Windows again since you already had it but those versions are not the way to go. If you had the opportunity to create the recovery disks and did not and you also managed to completely wipe the drive which includes wiping the recovery partition then your best option is to contact Acer to see if you can purchase the recovery disks. This would be far cheaper than buying Vista at retail pricing. What I don't understand is what went wrong with the reinstall unless the drive is bad. We also don't no why you needed to reinstall. Either way contacting Acer for those disks would be the best option in my opinion. If your drive was bad they should work on a new one. If you are in the UK then I can't supply a link to the order form. You will have to contact Acer and have your serial number ready. I'm not a fan of Acer support especially Acer support outside of the USA. I'm afraid all I can do is try to find you the UK contact information. I wish I could offer more help.
  22. Happy birthday DAIPWYSO. We all hope it's a good one.
  23. Starbuck and Buckman there is a chance that the popup is forum related and is not a problem with the computer. I'm going to look into it.
